“I have stay at 2- 5 starts hotels but this one is at the end of my list. This will be the last hotel I will stay if this is the case.”

“The hotel was nice. There was no one in the pool and hot tubs in the afternoon, so it was peaceful swimming with no kids yelling and jumping everywhere. They had a good variety of things to eat for the complementary breakfast.”

“The hallways were dark and in need of repair the carpeting in the hallway was past its prime. There was an indoor pool that kids used but we did not observe any adults in. The trip to the free breakfast bar took 10-12 minutes and it was not obvious on how to get there. It was close to the hospital where I did an overnight for testing. We had a dog and they were fine with (although it did cost an extra $10 which we were aware of ahead of time). At one time it might have been a nice place but the dankness of the hallways and rather plain, the room was only suitable for people on a budget and willing to for go the typical modern day hotel.”

“The hotel was a very good value for the price I paid. The decor was very outdated but the rooms were very clean. The area of town was very safe and comfortable as well.”

“The Canterbury Inn is a very reasonable alternative in the Coralville area, and its unique, castle inspired architecture and decor is charming, albeit a bit dated. The courtyard area includes a pool, two more secluded hot tubs, and a pool table, and the recreation area is easily accessible from the poolside rooms. The setup is perfect for a fun, multi family gathering, but not so great for peace and quiet. If rest is your goal, don't book poolside. But if you have kids, they'll be thrilled with the pool view (incidentally, patrons in the bar also have a pool view, through an underwater viewing window). As for the rooms, they're generally clean and have seen some updates in recent years. A complementary breakfast is served poolside, and includes everything from cereal and fruit to waffles fresh from the griddle. All in all, a pretty neat experience with a bit of character for an excellent price.”

“Mid evil look and appeal. Kind of cool for a change. Good breakfast and nice pool area. Corner room by the pool and hot tubs.”

“The hotel did not have my room available for at least 20 minutes; they did not have my name on the register. I had to give my credit card to the front desk for almost an hour. When I left in the morning they gave me a receipt for the room.”

“One of our favorite hotels in Iowa city. As parents of a college student, we appreciate the moderate price yet above average accommodations.”

“This hotel smelled like someones musty basement. It is dark and creepy. We actually left the hotel and I booked 2 nights in a hotel nearby. The room was small and I would not dare take off my shoes and walk around. The pool looked very nice and the surrounding area was nice, but I found out there is a window from the basement bar that allows patrons to view people while they are swimming. That creeps me out for myself and my 19 year old daughter. I did not and would never stay at this hotel.”

“I was not impressed. The smell in the room was a big turn off and made the stay very uncomfortable. The AC fan noise did help to drown out the pool noise! It was just not a very comfortable room.”

“Overall, my stay here was great. I didn't eat in the hotel restaurant because it smelled smoky as I walked in to check it out. My room was nice, the pool & whirlpool looked good, and breakfast poolside was a nice touch. I would stay here again.”

“Old English motif was obviously added to a standard low/mid-priced motel. A pool of fish under the front door step and some dark stained boards stuck to the outside walls do not a castle make. But the place was clean, the staff friendly, and the complimentary breakfast spectacular.”

“We checked in and left for a meeting. Upon arrival back, our keys did not work. We went to front desk (around the hotel) to get replaced. This was done pleasantly enough; however, was a pain to have to do in the first place. Carpet in room seemed moist, but I do understand somewhat since this was a pool side room. Breakfast was just ok, nothing great.”

“Overall my stay wasn't bad, just one night there was a large group of young people who literally partied until dawn, I finally called the front desk at 3:45 am to complain, but there were many people with small children at the hotel so I am sure others called sooner, the problem should have been taken care of well before 4:00am.”

“Currently under renovations. It has a different look from the outside - the bar counter is too small, but they compensate with the pool window - different beds too definitely would recommend it.”
