Crowne Plaza Five Season
Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[8] • Location:[3]

  • The bed was comfortable.
  • Poor performance in emergency situations - power went off and no emergency lights in hallways or stairways.

“We finished up our stay as the Cedar River flooded downtown, Cedar Rapids in June 2008. After a fire alarm at 2:40 am, exiting the hotel I fell off the platform on the east side of the hotel because the stairs went to the right. There should have been a railing blocking someone from falling the 2-foot drop straight ahead. Then, the power was shut off and no hot water at 7 am, forcing evacuation of the hotel. We were on the 10th floor and had absolutely no emergency lights in the hallway or the stairway. This hotel really needs to revamp their way of handling emergencies - we won't stay there again!”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[4] • Location:[8]

  • Clean attractive room and building.
  • There were no staff to help us carry our luggage in or out (1 block).

“Great hotel but they were extremely short staffed when I was there.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • The hotel was clean, efficient, with courteous staff, and met all my needs.
  • Could use a larger pool for its size, and a hot tub.

“I always stay here when I visit my daughter and grandchildren. It is fun to bring them to swim, and they always have a good time. It is always clean, and I rarely hear much noise, which is also important to me. Thanks.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[5] • Location:[8]

  • Room and beds were nice.
  • Bathrooms need updating as does lobby, pool area and restaurant.

“Hotel was conveniently located with garage parking though it seems parking should be free on the weekends. Room was nice but the bathroom was very small. Also the rooms did not mention the free WiFi - a nice feature but I was not aware of it for half a day. The pool was out of date but my 7 and 5 year old did not mind and the water was clean and at a good temp. However, there was never a supply of towels on hand for when one got out of the pool. We returned to our room with friends expecting the beds to be made (at least) but at 6 pm they were un-made and they never did get them made.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[8] • Location:[9]

  • Very comfortable beds and free computer/internet access.
  • Aside from the bedding, the room decor could use updating.

“This hotel is conveniently located close to the Interstate. The room and hotel overall seemed clean but the decor could use a little updating. The highlight was definitely the beds, so comfortable. There is a $6 charge for parking but it is a nice ramp so I didn't think it was too outlandish. There is a wonderful coffee shop across the street - it is 100% better than the coffee that is in the rooms.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[10] • Location:[9]

  • Staff was great, rooms lovely, hotel has character.
  • Hotel is very dated, pool dirty.

“Although the rooms were great, this hotel is very dated. The pool area especially was very dirty, many layers of paint, it just looked like a 70's throwback. The tub/shower in the bathroom was also very old and in general, the hotel just seemed tired and in need of being brought back to life. It's a shame because the staff was so friendly and welcoming and restaurant has breathtaking views. I'd stay there again but wouldn't be so excited about it. I'd love to see the hotel refurbished and updated. It's a classic and there aren't too many of those around anymore.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • Staff was very helpful and tried to help meet our needs.
  • Busy night with the event at the adjoining event center and therefore quite loud.

“This hotel has a nice location and would be convenient for anybody attending an event at the us cellular center. The staff is helpful in meeting requests or needs.”

  • Overall appearance was nice.
  • Pool was terrible.

“Nice hotel. If you want a pool, this is not the place for you. Pool area was not very nice. My children got ready to swim and changed their minds once we got to the pool area. They wouldn't even get in the pool.”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[7] •

  • Clean room, attractive decor, comfortable beds.
  • Had to pay for parking and located in somewhat run-down part of town.

“Rooms and public areas were supported by 3 star rating.”

Cleanliness:[5] • Staff:[8] • Location:[5]

  • The hotel's relation to downtown attractions.
  • This hotel is not 3 star. It is run-down, needs major renovations & hotel parking not at all convenient.

“This hotel does not deserve the 3 star rating, it is a 2 at best. The hotel is stuck in the 60's or 70's with its decor. It seems as it has not had any updating in 30-40 years. The parking is not convenient and the hotel is right next to a very loud and much used train track. On a good note, the staff was friendly and helpful. Also, if you are in town for the theater or performance, it is a great location.”

  • The location was perfect.
  • The staff was less than helpful. Our room was not ready when we arrived at 10 pm & they were not helpful with room service.

“The hotel was great. The staff at the hotel was terrible.”

“The room was ok nothing special. I have stayed at other hotels in the same city and they were much nicer in comparison but the shower was really nice.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[10] • Location:[8]

  • The fitness room have a variety of equipment and it was in good condition.
  • Having to pay $6 per day to park in the parking garage.

“The hotel is downtown and is attached to the US Cellular Center. The lobby is very nice and the elevators are generally pretty quick. The outer edge of the carpeting in our room looked like it hadn't been swept in over a year but the rest of the room was in good shape. The furniture was nice with drawers and hanging space and there were plenty of pillows for each bed. The hotel has a "Sky Walk" to a parking garage that is also used for the U.S. Cellular Center and other downtown parking. It can get pretty full when major events are going on at the center. Freight trains travel under the sky walk so it can be a little noisy at times.”

  • It was (sorry, nothing nice to say).
  • Paying you for my stay on the 21st & having them bill me for the 21st.

“I have tried Monday & Tuesday to call the hotel to get the billing fixed. The hotel charged my account for the same night. They BILLED ME AGAIN ANYWAY! Never stay there again!”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[5] • Location:[9]

  • Very Quiet.
  • Staff was a little distant.

“Very quiet hotel, didn't even hear people walking in the hall outside my room. Very clean. Slept great on the bed. Had wireless internet access. The only thing that could have made the trip better was having the front desk staff a little more friendlily. All but one that I dealt with had no personality, didn't smile, hardly even looked at you, and just didn't seem to care about the guest in general. Overall pleased with the hotel.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[9] • Location:[1]

  • Staff was friendly.
  • Rooms and skywalk was closed.

“The hotel was clean and nice, but we picked the hotel because it had a skywalk that would connect to Downtown locations. The problem is that they are not available on the weekends, so we walked in the freezing cold. Do not advertise the skywalk if it is not available.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[8] • Location:[9]

  • I liked the location, and the staff.
  • The beds are too stiff. Would have liked to see fridge and snack area.

“This hotel is located right Downtown within walking distance to everything. The amenities were clean and well maintained. The room could have been updated a bit more, but it was quite comfortable with plenty of storage.”
