  • The exterior of the hotel was gorgeous. Like a hotel from the 30's.
  • The view from the room was definitely sub par.

  • We really enjoyed the heated pool and jacuzzi.
  • Parking across street was inconvenient with small children.

“The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. Lobby was pleasant atmosphere and piano playing in afternoon and evening. We were able to swim in the heated pool and jacuzzi on a cool fall day. The kids thought that was pretty cool. Room was spacious for a standard room. We would stay here again.”

“We did enjoy our stay because we spent our honeymoon there 50 years ago. This stay was a gift from our children for our anniversary. As a Senior person, the lighting was not good at all for reading purposes.”

“I loved this hotel and I am not really easy to please. It was beautiful, across from beach, beautiful view and a pretty room. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and will go back, no questions asked.”

  • The hotel staff was very polite and eager to help.
  • The rooms are very small. There was hair all over our bed and the floors were dirty.

“I would not recommend this hotel it was very small room. No ramp access from back parking lot. We had two infants in a stroller and it was hard to go in the back entrance. There was hair in our bed and in the sheets that the staff brought us. The floors were dirty and stained. It was very loud. You could hear all the doors shut, water being turned on, toilets flush, hallway noise.”

  • I thought the rooms were a little small.

“This hotel was located right across from a beach stairwell. The location was great for what we wanted it for. We could go across the street for a while and swim then walk right back for a relaxing swim in the pool.”

  • Very beautiful, piano playing in lobby was seen through shower fan shaped washrag with toiletries.
  • Noisy light in hallway and could hear others talking when in hallway.

  • Location was great - directly across from beach. Beautiful architecture and grounds - amazing! Gated/covered parking was nice.

“We were very impressed with this hotel. Not only is the location unbeatable - directly across from the beach on Galveston's Seawall - the hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous. The grounds are well-maintained, the pool is beautiful (both daytime and nighttime), the lobby is amazing, the decor is great (we especially liked the bathrooms). We did not try the restaurant, but everything that we did see and experience exceeded our expectations. Other reviews commented that the rooms were small; I would agree somewhat. They aren't as big as some newer hotels, but this is a historic property and we thought the ocean view more than made up for it. We did not at all feel cramped or claustrophobic, with three in the room. Parking is free, gated, and some of the parking is covered (garage). The staff was friendly - the front doors were opened for us with a smile most of the times we walked through. All in all, I would highly recommend this property!”

  • All the staffs were knowledgeable, and very nice.

“Our experience was excellent. We did not eat within the hotel. Thought it was a little pricey. Very clean, enjoyed the stay. We were placed on the non ocean side, and there were not that many people booked. The view would have been nicer, than the back slum area.”

  • The breakfast chef was talkative while most competent told stories and cooked!
  • Would have preferred help getting in with our luggage not enough staff then.

“Overall ambiance of the older traditional hotel atmosphere was thrilling, and made you feel a part of history as well as the comfort of the rooms, staff, and food except for the initial lack of attention getting in and up to our room!”

  • The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. They also had whole milk in the restaurant which was great since I have two small children.
  • I wish there had been a little fridge in the room to keep drinks.

“The valet greeted us and was very nice. The ladies at the desk were very nice and friendly. They allowed me to go look at the two types of rooms I was interested in and choose one. This is a historic hotel, so rooms are smaller than the new hotels. I wanted to see which would best fit my family (two small children). The room and bathroom were quite nice. There was enough room for the kids and all our stuff. The restaurant was nice. We ate the breakfast buffet there. The omelet station was good and they had whole milk available for the kids (not easy to find when dining out). I was worried such a nice hotel might not be very family friendly, but they were and there a number of families with young children that we saw. The pool area looked inviting, but we opted to walk across the street to the beach. It is a short walk and great for only going over for an hour or so at a time with the kids. The hotel had gated parking and it didn't cost extra.”

  • Room had no desk or small table.

  • The bed was super comfortable.
  • No microwave or mini fridge in room.

“Our overall experience was wonderful. We were a little early and had a drink at the bar that particular barmaid was not very friendly, but the rest of the staff at the hotel we encounter was. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel itself is beautiful with lots of history. The pool area is beautiful at night. I wish they would have had a mini fridge and microwave so we could have taken home leftovers from dinner that would be the only addition to the room I would make. We used the valet parking, but you can park your car yourself. We just didn't want to walk to park our car ourself as it is a little bit of a hike to and from the parking garage. The valet's were all very nice and handled our automobile with care. The concierge there, was also a very wonderful staff employee and super friendly and helpful.”

  • It was a nice room for what we were looking for.
  • Shuttle did not pick us up because they were busy. Had to get a cab to get back to hotel.

“The hotel was very nice. The room was very good for the type of hotel. It was not a large room. However, it had everything that we needed. The only downside was the shuttle service. We were staying there before a cruised and took their shuttle service to the terminal. When we returned, we called the shuttle and they said they were coming. 30 minutes later we called to see where it was. They told us that they were busy with a wedding and we should take a cab at our own expense. The stay at the room met our expectations. They only downside was the shuttle service.”

  • Convenient to the beach. Pool/spa area was excellent.
  • Slow elevators - No one answered the phone to leave wake up call.

“Overall, better than expected as far as service, cleanliness, etc. I had hoped the business center had printers, but it did not and only one computer worked. Was surprised this hotel had rooms facing away from the water, but I guess that is due to being an old hotel. Our view was less than desirable.”
