“We finally were able to make a u-turn going North on I-35, after first driving down county roads out in the boonies from getting lost trying to exit off I-35 one exit too soon, then going south back through San Marcos and basically out of town and making another u-turn, (confused? Good, I sure was!) we check in and find dead crickets in the corners of the room, no whirlpool tub as advertised on the sign in front, light bulbs burned out in the room, and a room that is basically smelly and hot but so were the other rooms. It was late so we decided to tough it out and stay. We asked the front desk for a couple of extra pillows but they told us they didn't have any. What? (Okay, then I give up asking for a light bulb then). There must have been some pillows somewhere, right? The room finally cooled off about 6 am with the air turned all the way down to polar. Okay, now breakfast. There were about two each of bagels, muffins, and English muffins. Of the above, all were found to be petrified. The coffee tasted like mud and there was no milk for the two kinds of cereal. I assume there were two kinds of cereal at one time, but one of the containers was empty. There was one of those waffle irons, the only halfway decent choice. I did get lucky and find a banana on the counter after I wrestled it away from a cricket. Seriously though, avoid this place like the plague. Customer service was non existent, and it was not a very clean place. Also, if you are coming up from the south, you may never be able to find the place or get to it before having to take the scenic route 50 miles out of the way.”

“This is a great hotel for the money. They are working hard to update the hotel. The breakfast was good. The hotel staff is very friendly. If you are looking for just a place to seep for your vacation this is a great place to stay.”

“Overall it was great, just would have been nice to have a block to go around the hotel, maybe a road like in front of the pool, so that we would not have to go a few miles just to get back in.”

“The hotel met our needs. The staff was helpful but the room was aged. The room was a little musty from age.”

“It looks like they are trying to update to a Howard Johnsons standard. At the moment it is awful. Bad painting, new carpet stapled, very old furniture. Numbers still written on vanity top from installation. Very old bathtub. Maybe it will be nice one day? Low rate though. Owners, staff were great.”

“I would like to file a complaint about my stay. When I purchased online, I thought I was staying in a Howard Johnson hotel as told, but when my husband and I arrived for our 16th wedding anniversary, we found out that it was some other hotel with a very small sticker on the sign that said Howard Johnson. This hotel is a dive and was run by foreigners! The bed was so hard, I woke up with a back ache and had a crook in my neck. I have to go to a massage therapist for $50 to rub it out (more money)! We were afraid to go to sleep because we could hear cockroaches in the walls! It was a good thing I brought my own blanket or I would have slept in my car! The picture we saw of a brand new Howard Johnson hotel was clearly a bait and switch swindle. Hot breakfast was also a joke! Coffee & bagels was it!”
