  • Historic and elegant. The ghost tours and ties to The Shining were great fun.

“It was fun to stay at a hotel that is a destination in itself. The ghost tours and ties to The Shining were great fun.”

  • Great TV in my room. The constant playing of 'The Shining' was really cool.
  • Carpet in room was gross. Had burn holes in it. Walls were very thin.

“Excellent location with breath-taking views. Even the smell in the air was amazing. Friendly staff and pet friendliness made our stay very easy. I knew the rooms were going to be old and they definitely were, but that sort-of added to the experience. Definitely nothing too impressive, but if you go in knowing what to expect, you'll be happy with your stay.”

Cleanliness:[4] • Staff:[1] • Location:[9]

  • Location is pretty as is the lobby and outside of the building.
  • Staff are rude, food is poor for what you pay, rooms are basic and the salon is terrible.

“I also went for a wedding and I was disappointed along with many of the guests. The staff were rude and unhelpful. We also had to carry our own luggage up to a villa. The bride was in tears having to sort out some minor detail that the staff could not seem to cope with. The food was half cooked and not impressive at all. Our villa had dirty towels and sheets and garbage out the front, (even though we checked in way after the check in time). Other guests had rooms in the hotel which were tiny, cold and nothing short of a 1*motel, they even had ice on the inside of the windows and no heating! Please take it from me and 40 other guests that you do not want to have your wedding at the Stanley. The salon there is just as bad, with rude, ignorant staff and services that are overpriced for what they are. Several treatments were done very poorly, even the photos I have prove that. Save your daughter or yourself and pick another location, you will be glad you did.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • Historical value, lobby, decor, cleanliness, coffee shop, all excellent.
  • The bed was terribly uncomfortable and our dinner proportions were sorrowfully tiny.

“The historical value was everything we expected, from a beautifully charming lobby with fabulous fireplaces and great mountain views. Our room decor was inviting but the bed was terribly uncomfortable as we sunk down and rolled to the middle. Also the restaurant food was nothing to write home about, way overpriced and ridiculously stingy portions complete with an uppity cold waitress.”

  • The bed was incredibly comfortable.
  • Not much room for the price.

“It was nice to see workers dressed in suits and treating customers with respect. The room was small, the bed was super comfortable. It is an old building, and is noisy. The floors above us creaked when people moved around in bed. I didn't experience any haunting while there, but they do play "The Shining" in a loop on one TV channel. We brought some wine down to the fountain courtyard and had a nice evening. The hotel is not in a secluded location. It is surrounded by residences and is fronted by a Safeway grocery store.”

  • The location it is beautiful.
  • The staff and management of the hotel.

“Attended a wedding and stayed 4 days at the Stanley. Tiny cramped rooms, extremely poor service, no bellman, carry your own luggage, inattentive and at times rude staff. Management very consenting and rude to the bride had her in tears over wedding detail.”
