  • It was a very nice hotel with heated indoor swimming pool and nice bar-lounge
  • The restaurant service was very slow. Restaurant was clean but not quick.

“This hotel was very nice the room were clean and had iron, blow dryer, just very quaint. It also had a large indoor swimming pool and hot tub. I would recommend this place to friends.”

  • The room was very spacious, the shower was hot and the water pressure was great.

  • More like an apartment than hotel. very comfortable and homey outside.
  • toiletbowl was stained

“Overall we enjoyed our stay. The room was roomy and provided all we needed. The location was good and easy to accesss. Seemed like apark location. Flowers outside the window. Very relaxing. We were on ground level.”

  • Location was good.
  • Our room was a smoking room.

“The hotel location was great. The room smelled like smoke and it was supposed to be a non-smoking room. We never got our towels replaced. There was never towels in the pool area, no ice in the ice machine and we had to go all the way to the front office for ice.”

  • Rooms were spacious.
  • Most other hotels in this category offer a continental breakfast. This one does not.

“Good location. Rooms were nice. A computer with internet was available for guest use, but I was disappointed that they charge $3.95 to use it (each 15 minutes). When all you need to do is print a boarding pass which takes about 1 minute, that is kind of disappointing. All the other hotels during our trip had free computers for guest use.”

  • The design of the room was good, minimizing noise from other guests.
  • Needs small table beside bed. We had to use a chair next to the bed.

“NA.”

  • The grounds were nice.
  • Rooms were dirty, beds were broken down, 1 bar staff was rude, food was so bad we actually demanded our money back and did not eat there again.

“I would not stay at this hotel again.”

  • The small hotel units may have had ten doors to individual rooms. Instead of 20 doors in a row on 1 sidewalk.
  • The hot tub/spa was under construction/repairs. Not for use.

“A
short 2 mile trip will put you at the town plaza. Lovely rooms. Relaxed hotel lay-out with easy access to whatever you need.
I will stay at this inn again.”

  • Spacious rooms, quiet location.
  • Rooms need updating.

“This once elegant, now just above average motel offers spacious rooms that are quiet and in a nice location for off-plaza Taos. The rooms need updating, but are better than most budget motels as far as size and sound-dampening. The restaurant leaves much to be desired, but when in Taos, who wants to eat institutional food anyway? While the rooms need updating, they're still clean and in relatively good shape. The size of the rooms, and location of the hotel make this a good choice. We didn't experience the pool or hot tub this stay, but in the past have been happy with the aquatic amenities.”

  • The location was good and the grounds are kept up. Outside of hotel is very inviting.
  • Rooms need a little update especially the bathrooms.

“I have stayed there before and I go back because of the location. Overall, it is a good place to stay, but it does need some update.”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[4] • Location:[9]

  • It was selected as a safe location but that did not apply since it was next to several 2 star hotels.
  • The room was poorly maintained. It needed painting, caulking in bathroom; overall it was ratty looking.

“The Don Fernando is overrated and overpriced. While it has some special amenities, it is not very well maintained inside the rooms or around the grounds.”

  • It's across the street from a really good bar-b-queue restaurant.
  • No free breakfast. No frills.

“The price is too high for this hotel. I would have preferred to stay at cheaper, funkier hotels nearby. It had no character or personality.”

  • It is the perfect style for Taos, it is peaceful and quiet and centrally located.
  • We had booked a room with two beds and at first this is not what we got, but they corrected it.

“We have come to this hotel many times before, we like the looks of it, the location and at one time they had a good restaurant. They recommended another restaurant to us and this place has become our favorite since. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. We can recommend it wholeheartedly.”

  • Convenient for what we wanted to do.
  • Horrible noise in water pipes. Inconsiderate and rude desk clerk Friday evening.

“Pool area was not ready for use Friday night nor Saturday morning. Could not even see bottom of pool; only first step was visible. Hot tub was only 2/3 full and full of dead flies. No implements available for straining flies out of hot tub. No spa towels available in pool area. Ice machine not working at all. Had to go to next set of hotel rooms and upstairs to locate a working ice machine. Pool area was not secure. Card access was available, but doors to pool area were not locked and required no room key for access. Desk Clerk Friday evening was rude and inconsiderate. Older woman with short black hair. She claimed that our phone in the room would not work because we had not left a security deposit. This was not true, and she refused to allow us the use of the house phone for a local call. The whole time she was very condescending.”

  • Location fairly convenient, very clean, nice staff.
  • A little too far from town center.

“The hotel is clean, rooms are of a good size and the grounds are nicely landscaped. It was a little too far from the Plaza, but the price was so good and the quality so good, that I can't complain. Hotels near the plaza tend to be very upscale and pricey. I was very pleased with the price and the quality. Thank you. Diane Freeman”
