Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[1] • Location:[7]

  • Pretty property
  • Added $150 per day for resort fees, port fees and "complimentary" breakfast. Staff is extremely rude.

“My husband and I went there for our honeymoon, on my father's recommendation, as he stays there every month for business. Despite advertising a complimentary breakfast, they charged us between $30-50 for each morning meal. We also had several room service orders charged to our room that were not ours, and they wouldn't remove those charges, even though they admitted the meals had been delivered to another room. Though we were polite and did not raise our voices to the staff at all, the desk clerk was extremely insolent, acting as though it was in poor taste to ask them to adhere to the advertised rates and actually told us they were glad to see us go! After we returned home, we discovered that they had added another $120 in port fees to our bill after we checked out. Also, we were awakened each morning by construction and re-awakened by the housekeeping staff entering our room, even though we had a privacy sign on our door. The private adult pool had children running around and screaming, though there was a separate family pool area. The pools stank of urine. We will definitely not be going back.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[6] • Location:[7]

  • Top quality hotel/resort
  • mostly super-rich clientele. extraordinary charges for small things

“This is a great resort, top-quality, but for the super rich. I got a great rate. But the resort added a $12 fee- what a rip-off. I had to talk to the manager to get it waived. The charge for a bottle of water was $6. It seemed they charge a lot for everything, which doesn't matter to most of their (super rich) customers. If you are cost sensitive like the 99.9% of the population, I would not recommed this hotel.”

  • I loved the lobby of the hotel and the interior of the building.
  • The room was isolated from the rest of the building. No view!

“The Hotel was beatiful, but our room was not located in the right area. We did not feel that we were staying at the hotel.”

  • Hotel charged me $12 for resort fee and $10 for parking

“When I asked what the $12 resort fee was about, The front desk staff sternly responded that the fee is non-negotiable and charged to every customer.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[9]

  • Very quiet and peaceful setting. Hotel staff very friendly. Room older but very nice.

“The Rancho Bernardo Inn is a very comfortable place to stay with a personality of it's own. However I don't believe that it is as nice as many of the 4 star hotels I have stayed at. Staff very professional and helpful.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • Wow! Terrific service and beautifully kept grounds.
  • The beds are extremely hard and the plumbing could be upgraded.

“This is a beautiful resort hotel with tons of privacy, excellent service, friendly staff and way above-average quality restaurants. It is a wonderful place to get away in rural San Diego County and we will definitely be going back to take advantage of the accommodations and services.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • The grounds are beautiful, staff friendly and helpful.
  • Restaurant was very noise. The in room bar was not supplied well. There was a resort fee plus a parking fee.

“This hotel has old world charm and has a peaceful personality. The room was nice but not great. I would not give this 4 star hotel 4 stars. It deserves 3 stars in my opinion.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • Renovated, clean, very peaceful and relaxing.
  • Prices at the "casual" restaurant and bar were a bit high.

“Although this resort has been around for a long time you never felt like you were in an old hotel. The rooms and bathrooms were super clean and did not have the "old" hotel scent. The grounds were quite and peaceful. A great place to run away from the kids!”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[6] • Location:[10]

  • Location - large rooms
  • We were not previously told of charges that would be applied for services not used.

“We did not use their telephone nor their internet services but on checkout we were told they were charging for these items. We felt this was very deceptive.”

  • Half-eaten candy bar under bed. Unsafe light fixtures.

“The location and staff were good. Room conditions were not great. It was clean but not thoroughly. Half-eaten candy bar under bed... strange strong smell in one corner... exposed electrical fixtures.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • The hotel grounds typified by gardens are elegant and inviting. The staff is responsive
  • The room was average but not extraordinary.

“We enjoyed staying at the Rancho Bernardo Inn for the price we selected. It has beautiful gardens, nice extras (a tea hour)and quiet pool and hot tub. Golfing and corporate seminars are in abundance. The room itself, is average - nothing extraordinary. The service and amenatives, more so than the room, make the stay memorable.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[7] • Location:[8]

  • the golf course
  • quality of hotel not to standards

“roof leak, toilet did not flush, we moved to another room and the sink was broken. Very thin walls you could hear the conversations of your neighbors. Door did not lock well, and TV would turn off and on. TV too small 18 inches. Refrigerator extremely small for drinks and very old. Mandatory fee of 12.00 a day for fitness room that we did not even use and areas we did not use.”

Overall Rating: 8 Overall user rating
Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[8] • Location:[7]

  • It was in a quiet location.
  • I asked for a room with a King size bed but I got a room with two queen sized beds. No effort was made to change this.

“We did not receive the room we asked for and the staff did not show much concern or hospitality. I found a huge spider in the bathroom which made me wonder just how often the rooms are cleaned and just how thorough the cleaning is. For a four star hotel that was disappointing. In spite of all this, the hotel's okay.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • The staff was so friendly. It made my stay a real treat. Also, the restaurants were outstanding.
  • A little noisy where we were, especially when people ran their baths.

“Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. The staff was especially pleasant. Also, there was so much to do on site that there really is no reason to leave until check out. Not to mention the restaurants. El Bizcocho may possibly be the finest dining experience I have had.”
