  • We loved the oldness of it! And the location was great!
  • No refrigerator in the room for left over and drinks.

“Yes, it is old and the rooms were a bit small but our double room served it is propose, to shower and sleep. My teenage kids thought it was cool especially the old caged elevator and the access to the rooftop. We did not get to try the restaurant as it was too late by the time we left for dinner, they would not let the kids in. We had a memorable time on our short trip to SD. We will return!”

  • Proximity to downtown.
  • No parking, not happy. I was forced to pay for valet parking.

“Nice, but really not traveler friendly due to zero parking and number of one way streets surrounding the hotel.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[9]

  • Friendly staff, funky casual restaurant.
  • Wow! Shockingly tiny, tiny room and tiny, tiny bed.

“Not a conventional Ramada. Rather, seemingly a converted former little people rest home. Tiny room. Tiny bed. Tiny elevator with roll back metal gate. Nice staff. Great location, but the same comfort level as sleeping in your car.”

  • The staff and the hotel was old world quaint.
  • The food and it needs to upgrade the size of the room, bathroom and air conditioning.

“The Ramada Gaslamp was quaint and the staff that I encountered was very friendly and professionally polite. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family and return for myself. They did great.”

“Modest accommodations in a killer area. Close to all shops and restaurants within the Gas lamp. Very friendly staff.”

  • The hotel is so so but it is absolutely wonderful for the price.
  • Elevators.

“Overall, a great place for the price, the staff was very friendly and the location is great for young people. Close to restaurants, bars, etc.”

  • The "Bones." its a beautiful Victorian building.
  • The TV only worked on one channel. When I phoned the desk to request a solution, nothing was done.

“This is a beautiful old Victorian building that has been cheaply restored with fake period crystal chandeliers, missing crystals in the lobby. The 1913 cage elevators are fun, but not if you are in hurry and the doors would be dangerous for childrens hands. My room was tiny, with a contractors grade sink in one corner, a teeny tiny shower stall and the toilet crammed into what may have been a closet at one time. There is no closet. The TV didn't work, and the hotel staff couldn't have been less interested, and did nothing. The bed linens, though clean, were definitely showing their age, as were the towels. The carpeting was also spotty, and had seen better days. The location, however, is excellent.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[8] • Location:[10]

  • Location is great, room 324 was quiet, very clean, bed comfortable!
  • Many parking lots adjacent but all closed at 9 pm so had to pay $18 for valet.

“Great location for a night in the Gaslamp area, right in the heart of the action. Small rooms and bathroom but very clean and comfortable beds. The staff was very helpful and the old elevators with the gates were charming. Not a hotel to spend hours in but a clean, great location that I would stay in again.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[8] • Location:[9]

  • Staff was very willing to help with local attractions.
  • THE elevator, historic or not. It was horrible.

“The room I had was pretty small, no closet and hardly enough room to walk in front of the bed. I was on the 5th floor and the average wait time to ride the elevator down was 5+ minutes. Obviously I took the stairs but would have preferred the elevator. You are definitely paying for location at this hotel.”

Cleanliness:[2] • Staff:[2] • Location:[9]

  • Location.
  • Poor cleanliness, miserable maintenance.

“I love old boutique hotels. This hotel was not well maintained or cleaned. The maintenance appeared to consist of a bucket of paint and a caulking gun. A musty smell was found in the common areas, and the room had mold on the bathroom window, and poor fixtures. It is a shame this beautiful old building doesn't have a better tenant.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[6] • Location:[10]

  • Hotel location was excellent!
  • Room and bathroom facilities were very small.

“The hotel was in an excellent location to dining areas. The hotel room was very small with minimal room to move. The bathroom had no bath tub just a small shower. Valet service was poor due to no parking except on the street in front of the hotel. I had to make the block at least once (4 times upon arrival) each time I wanted valet service.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • The location was great for all the San Diego nightlife.
  • The rooms were quite small.

“If you want a nostalgic old hotel in the heart of the Gaslight District, this is a great option. Do not expect spacious rooms, however. The beds are all queens, the showers are small, and the elevators are old-fashioned. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and that ensures all the hotel's quirks only add to its charm. In comparison to what you might get for your money in a more modern hotel, but its location and friendly service make up for it.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[8] • Location:[9]

  • The rooms were clean and the beds, comfortable.
  • Parking was too expensive and the elevators were outdated.

“It is a convenient, moderately priced hotel which was fine for a short stay. ”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[4] • Location:[6]

  • I had a nice room.
  • Old slow elevators.

“The valet ignored me and I sat in my car for a long time while he helped people who came after me. It was very upsetting.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[8] • Location:[9]

  • Quaint, clean, free internet, great breakfast restaurant on site, efficient car valet.
  • A little noisy on weekend nights, it is an entertainment district - so some people would object.

“Great location, efficient valet parking, small, but clean rooms, a lot of old charm, free internet on 1st floor, great breakfast restaurant on site.”

  • Old style nostalgia.
  • Small Rooms.

“For economy stay in the lamp district it would be hard to beat this hotel for business travel. The staff was always cheerful and willing to help. For the base rooms on a romantic trip I wouldn't be as likely to recommend it. The room I had was very small and showed its age. It is not a modern hotel by any stretch, but for those looking for location or old style this hotel is worth checking out.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[9] • Location:[9]

  • Locations is very good, close to everything. Great staff.
  • Small rooms! No parking.

“Very old hotel and it fits in nicely with the gas lamp district. Location is central, very close to everything downtown as well as the ocean and Balboa Park. There is no parking, but the hotel will valet for $18 day. Rooms are small. The suites are recommended if you have a child. Not ideal for large families.”

  • Nothing.
  • I didn't like anything about it.

“Horrible, horrible, horrible!! Not a 3* at all. We took pictures to document it. Waited over 30 min. and got no one because we absolutely didn't want to stat there. but, being a teacher, I couldn't afford to risk losing the money. They said they didn't get the money from you guys until after the stay, so they wouldn't refund me. It was a vicious cycle. We want a refund. this hotel was a joke. it had so many hazards. That is why we took pictures. They refused to answer any emails or phone calls, even before the trip, as well as the day of arrival. We were lied to about the hotel star level. It was all very deceptive.”
