“This is an old 1920's building converted into a modern hotel while still retaining its charm. It's conveniently located Downtown near bus and trolley lines. Staff was helpful, free internet in lobby was useful. Night manager gave us a short tour of the building, including the old bank vault. Room was clean and quiet.”

“Lovely renovated bank which still kept all the bank details in the lobby (from early 1900). Upstairs kept all old doors/marble -very nice. Parking is a problem.”

“On the edge of the gas lamp district, this historic bank building, fairly recently converted to hotel is comfortable and convenient to old town San Diego. The dining room is extravagant with its granite columns and ornate furnishings. I was very pleased to this unique property, close to the train station and the cruise ship dock.”

“We loved the staff and service we got from this hotel and we enjoyed walking threw it to see all the beautiful architecture. However, the parking/ballet service is $24.00 a day and the location is not that great. There are homeless people all around and lots of night clubs so it is not suitable for families with children.”

“Located in Downtown San Diego near the Gaslight Quarter, well appointed hotel converted from a bank building built in the 1920s. Lacks wireless internet in the room or electrical sockets in the lobby for business work. Very quiet and friendly staff.”

“This hotel was great. Great location, nice clean and comfortable room, and nice staff. When we arrived, Valet was $24 a day. Not bad considering its in the city and you pay for parking everywhere. They bring you your car and park as many times as you want and you don't have to search for a safe place to park. The room was great, bigger then expected, clean, and quiet. Location was great, easy walk to great places to eat, a 7-11 for those late nights at the clubs, and easy access to get anywhere. The staff was helpful, and the only complaint is the elevators need some service.”

“Elegant and upscale old-school lobby, with spacious and comfortable rooms that match the tasteful style. The only downside were the down pillows, which are unfortunate for those with allergies (it would be nice to see comfortable hypo-allergenic pillows and bedding in such a tasteful hotel). Watch out for the directions you'll get on Goggle Maps or Map quest, as both list the hotel on Broadway: the entrance is actually off of 6th Ave., which the hotel staff kindly explained after my first lap around the block. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and business associates.”

“What a surprise to be spending the night in a restored bank with marble columns from all over the world, hand painted ceilings, old maps and photos of old San Diego on the wall, and the actual restored vault in the basement! It was very special and totally unexpected. People were friendly and helpful. Excellent location near Gaslamp District, shopping, and transportation.”

“The location of the hotel, although conveniently located near several shopping/fine dining choices, was not as close to the bay area as I thought. The architecture and history of the hotel was preserved marvelously. The front desk staff was very efficient when we asked for a room with double beds, instead of just the one king bed. The only real complaints were the loud noise from the bar/club across the street, no parking or safe unloading area (We had to dodge cars while opening our car doors, and our luggage was soaked in the rain, despite the mini awning over the side door), and while other hotels offer complimentary toiletries, this hotel charged $5 each for a toothbrush and razor, with no advance notice! I was surprised with the charges on my card statement days later.”

“This hotel is visually stunning and elegant, with an ideal location and friendly staff. The 24-hour snack area was a nice amenity for those late night snacks. The rooms were rather small, and not fancy, but they were clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay, and hope to stay there again in the future.”

“The restored circa-1950s bank lobby was wonderful. The classic air to the place was really great. But, since it was an old building the pipes banged a bit. The room was spacious and clean. The hotel was close to the Gas lamp and Horton Plaza, so great restaurants and shopping.”

“Located in the heart of the Gas lamp district, walking distance to all the major restaurants in the area, as well as Horton Plaza Shopping and entertainment. Easy cab ride or put on your walking shoes to visit waterside attractions like Seaport Village and the Midway. Hotel is in an old bank, and they have kept many of the original marble features and original fixtures from the bank in the lobby. The hallways leading to the rooms look like an old office building. Ours was small but comfortable for two people with a desk, comfortable club chair, and queen size bed.”

“Hotel was old but very clean and staff was excellent. Good extras in the hotel. Parking price was a bit pricey. Had trouble in the dining room with our food, but the waiter took the bill. Excellent place to stay for the cruise ship terminal and getting on and off the interstate.”

“The room was clean and well supplied with all necessities. We were able to check in much earlier than normal. There is a lot of construction going on in downtown San Diego near the hotel so there may be some extra noise to listen to for a little while yet.”

“We enjoyed our stay. The marbled walls and woodwork gave the hotel character and style. The room was clean and very comfortable. We had a corner room on the 7th floor and the view was great, even the bathroom had a large window with a view! We were disappointed that there was no onsite parking (valet only at $24/day!) and we were told that the Courtyard had full pool access at the Marina Marriott a few blocks down. When we went there, the lady at the registration told us that we were given bogus information. We had been told by the customer service rep at the Marriott's toll-free number as well as the registration clerk at the Courtyard so we were very confused by the mixed messages. Our bathing suits went unused during the hottest weekend of the summer.”

“I was surprised to find out that this hotel is a historical landmark in San Diego and enjoyed reading about it and seeing authentic architecture from the past. It was located within walking distance of most downtown attractions. My group enjoyed our stay at the Marriot.”

“This hotel is gorgeous inside. The location while in the gas lamp district was nice, but there was no parking. We had to pay $25 a day for valet service as there was no other accessible parking. We were given a room with one bed, were told they were out of roll away, but then were told the next day that a roll away was available, however the room was too small, we were later told in the day that this was not the case, however, all the roll away had been given out again. We eventually were given a room with 2 beds towards the end of our stay. This hotel charges for everything under the sun. Movies are priced high at $14.99. There are no gratis amenities that you typically find with higher end hotels, example bottled water, fruit etc. I do not recommend the hotel for families, but the rooms are beautiful for a romantic get away. The beds are hard as a rock. While costly, the valet service was excellent. This hotel does not have a pool.”

“The setting of the hotel, in an old luxurious bank, gave many architectural elements, granite walls and floors, each room with a mail slot, conference rooms in the old bank vaults, and plenty of wood a unique experience in a modern hotel. There was no trouble with sound proofing these rooms. I would recommend this hotel for its accommodations, its closeness to the Gaslight district, and its lovely staff to any type of traveler to San Diego.”
