“The lobby has been nicely updated. The rooms were updated as well, but there was not much attention paid to detail. Walls we not completely painted behind fixtures. Weird tape steeps in the middle of the wall. Alarm clock did not work. Toilet seat was broken. The pool was drained during our visit. It looks like the entire hotel is in middle of a make over.”

“The staff was wonderful recommending that we upgrade from the queen room which had not been renovated to the king room which had been recently renovated. This upgrade came at no additional charge. The room was very euro with 12 foot ceilings and cherry wood furniture. The bed was very comfortable. The 4th floor restaurant was very popular with its open air balcony. Prices were reasonable and selections good. We arrived after dark and the hotel looked old and strange, however when we saw it in the daylight it had an urban appeal. Little Italy is one block from the hotel and the bay is withing easy walking distance. We wouldn't have picked this hotel but having stayed at this hotel, we will be staying there again when we travel to San Diego. The only downside was the street construction outside our window.”

“We were moved twice because of smoke smelling rooms. we finally got moved to to a slightly upgraded room that felt much more clean and had no smoke smell. The pictures of the rooms on their website are also not what the actual rooms look like.”

“If you admire a veneer, this hotel is for you. Anything deeper than the surface view, though, is likely to fall to pieces before your eyes. The air conditioning is antique at best and raises concerns of Legionnaires Disease. This hotel has GREAT potential, but the rooms - still the same size as when this building housed a Super 8 motel - are crowded with the oversize furniture. It would help, too, if the shower/tub allowed enough space for your shampoo. There isn't even a place to rest the bar of soap! The shaving mirror is a nice touch - until you try to adjust it and find the screws and nuts are not all there. Bottom line: this owner is trying to go cheap and charge for quality which is not there.”

“The staff were friendly and welcoming. It was easy to take the shuttle from the hotel to Balboa Park and have a reliable ride back without the trouble of finding parking. The closed parking garage and amenities were decent.”

“The location of the hotel is great, just a block from Little Italy and walking distance from downtown and a number of attractions. The room, however, was disappointing. It was very small and only had an iron and a one cup coffee maker without any directions. There was no information on the hotel's amenities, so we didn't know what was available. Though we had satellite TV, several of the major channels were not available because of a reception problem. We would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.”

“This hotel is located in a great part of town, right in the heart of Little Italy. I got my morning coffee at a cafe up the street where the owners and other patrons spoke Italian. It felt a bit like being in a European city. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was a bit small, and the one I stayed in did not have a view, but for anyone wanting to explore San Diego outside a hotel room, I'd definitely recommend this location.”

“Great downtown location in little Italy. Nice restaurants around. Great view of the bay and sail boats. The roof top has a balcony overlooking the bay with chairs and the rest. has a balcony as well.”

“Room was very small for two beds, though adequate. The lack of air conditioning/fan was very uncomfortable, all of the ice buckets had been used to collect condensation from the units on all of the balconies. For the price, I expected to at least be comfortable. I will not stay there again.”

“Our first room had an unpleasant odor and the door to the bathroom did not close. We asked for another room and it was 10 times better. We had vaulted ceilings and a huge bathroom. The location of the hotel was near town to walk to different restaurants & tourist attractions & boutiques. And the location of the hotel was away from traffic and quiet.”

“The hotel looks nice on the outside but it is deceiving once you get inside. They need to tear it down and start over. I couldn't believe it when I seen the roaches crawling over the bathroom floor and by the nightstand. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. That is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at and I have stayed at hotels all over the world.”

“The staff was friendly and pleasant. Though this hotel was recently renovated, it still seemed a little outdated. The Downtown location was convenient but the parking was limited. The standard room was a little bit smaller than a typical bedroom and the bed was hard. Good for business travelers, not good for leisure and family.”

“Hotel is in a great location, particularly if airport proximity is a priority. Close to the Italian quarter, with very nice restaurants within walking distance in a safe neighborhood. The room was clean, but much smaller than expected and the furnishings (wardrobe, desk and chair) were much too large for such a small space. The air conditioning unit in the wall was very noisy when running and the room was very warm without it. Outside noise from the air conditioning units of the other rooms was also quite loud. The recently-decorated lobby area looked impressive, but unfortunately our early-morning checkout experience was less than friendly and far below the levels of customer service we expected. Would revisit this area, but not this hotel.”

“I was very pleasantly surprised with the Porto Vista. The location is great and is a very easy walk to Little Italy's dining and ocean front attractions. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and more accommodating, and the complimentary shuttle service was really helpful. The rooms seem to be newly remodeled and the beds were very comfortable. I truly enjoyed my stay.”

“I have never stayed anywhere so awful, our air condition unit would turn off every other minute, I had to inquire about the things that where so post to be in my room. I would not recommend this for a suite. think of it more like a room with a tiny fridge that kept the food nice and warm accompanied by a little microwave and a wet bar. Which was a sink located 2 feet from the bathroom faucet!”

“This was a terrible experience. There was no way to get any sleep. Besides the noisy cleaning staff, there were some custodial workers doing some project which required them to hammer incessantly starting at 8am. All the rooms faced the parking area, so at night you'd be awakened by people parking and slamming car doors etc. I am not a light sleeper, and I have never had the kind of trouble I had at this place.”
