  • Pretty much everything was attractive and well kept.
  • Parking a little inconvenient.

“The Westin is a great hotel. We had an excellent view of the city and the harbor. Staff was friendly and quick to help. Room very well kept and very attractive, although window could have been cleaned better. Very, very quiet. Having to cross a street to get from parking to hotel is a minor inconvenience, but I guess to be expected given the crowded conditions of downtown San Diego. Would definitely recommend.”

  • Atmosphere and location.
  • Parking fee (too high to paid guests).

“Had the opportunity to dine in restaurant; not much of a selection (lunch); however delicious.”

  • Nice location for business travelers. Also many tourist attractions within walking distance for the leisure traveler.
  • Sterile room decor.

“This hotel is geared much more to the needs of the business traveler than the typical vacationer. Location is good (central to the main office district) and within walking distance to the Gas lamp Quarter, Horton Plaza and the Embarcadero waterfront area. Rooms are decently outfitted but the decor is rather cold and sterile. Many rooms overlook the central atrium rather than an actual outside view, which may not appeal to all guests. The only hotel-provided parking option is valet at $27 per night. There was a long wait for guests to retrieve their cars on the Sunday morning we stayed at this Westin. Better to park on the street for free on the weekends.”

  • The lobby area is spectacular.
  • Poolside service extra slow, lobby bar small and no sound on sports channels i.e. Padres Baseball.

“I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Self parking seemed to be an issue however valet is always an option. Very train station close.”

  • Everything! Awesome.
  • Valet service was slow but everything else was awesome.

“Don't get confused while looking for this hotel. There are two within blocks of each other. This one is west and closer to the bay. There were smiling faces and helpful bodies everywhere. Car valet was immediate and within 5 minutes we were on our way to our room. A king sized bed, writer's desk, plasma TV and a nice sized room. We had a great view of the bay, even though the windows were quite dirty. We ventured outside to find we were within a couple blocks of the tram, bus and train services. There were many nearby attractions and eateries. I had to do a download of my modem for work and I was getting bumped off the phone while trying to do this in my room. The front desk actually took me into their office and let me use their dedicated fax line to accomplish this task. How's that for customer service! We will return to San Diego and hopefully to the Westin San Diego. This will be a great memory to share with others.”

  • Everything was very modern and clean, most hotels look to flowery and out of date.
  • My parents tried to surprise us and called the hotel before we arrived to send us champagne and strawberries and the staff forgot to send it to our room.

“The staff was very helpful and friendly. They tried their best find us a room with a great view. It is a non smoking hotel so for our anniversary we had brought some candles but we could not use them in our room, because they offered to gather up their battery operated candles from the lobby and send them to our room. That was nice of them to go out of their way just to make us feel special on our anniversary.”

  • Cleanliness, desk chair was good.
  • The restaurant was horrible service and food.

“The girl at the desk did take the charge off for our dinner, which was much appreciated, as we did not enjoy our meal and waited an hour and a half for our food. So I would tell someone to stay there, but not to eat there.”

  • The staff was helpful.
  • There were numerous add on charges (parking, internet, etc).

“Overall the wasting was a nice hotel. The computers were down when we arrived so we could not immediately check in. The desk clerk did offer refreshments while we waited. The worse part was the parking. It is located in downtown San Diego, where parking is scarce, and we had to pay an extra $25/day for valet parking. Also, it would have between nice to have free internet access while at the hotel. On the other hand, the concierge was helpful in obtaining tickets to the us midway aircraft carrier museum. The room was nice but not exceptional. The hotel's strength was its staff. Overall a good hotel for the price.”

  • Employees were very helpful and polite, went out of their way to help.
  • Parking at $25 a night is not something I realized would be added to the cost of our hotel.

“Excellent choice, close to most activities that we wanted to participate in. (walking distance) Very accommodating staff, beautiful hotel, very nice exercise room.”

  • The bed was to die for and the location was perfect I wish I had booked another night.
  • No self parking and being charged $25.00 was unexpected.

“The hotel was in a perfect location. We walked to dinner and the area felt safe and comfortable. The room was very comfortable and we enjoyed the best night sleep. It was a great weekend get away and will love to do it again. Staff was more than friendly.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[8]

  • Very friendly staff, a more than helpful concierge, and nicely done rooms made for a very pleasant stay.
  • While known for its emerald decor in the lobby - seems bit dated.

“A nice stroll from the Mall and Gas Lamp and next to the trolley stop. We were concerned about paying the $25+ for parking, but for a Saturday night stay, the street parking after 6:00 p.m. And all day Sunday was free. The room with a King Bed was spacious, enough for the 2 kids to run about while still giving Mom and Dad space to relax. Petcock Park was just a few trolley stops away - and while the immediate area around the hotel is quiet at night, it still seemed reasonably safe to walk to and from the hot spots.”

  • Great location and nice common areas.
  • Nickel and dime (every time I turned around, something was another fee).

“Not impressed with this hotel. I travel a lot and typically when staying at a 3.5 to 4 star hotel as this one is rated, I expect better rooms, service and amenities. I also did not like booking a room on and being pinged a fee for everything. The following items were additional fees: parking at $25 per day. There is parking for $20 across the street but no in and out access. The parking they do offer is onyx valet. It is not the valet¿s fault that they charge $25 per day, so tipping got costly with every trip in and out of the hotel. Fees for use of the internet either wired or wireless. ($12.95 a day) expense meals in the hotel dining room ($16 for breakfast buffet, and it is no better than what you get for $7 at a courtyard) $.95 for local calls toll free numbers are not considered local so a call to an airline to check flight status cost $3.90.all in all, I stayed 6 days and my prepaid room through cost me an additional $305 when checking out. That was parking, breakfast for 5 and room service for 2 one night along with phone calls. In addition to the fees that seemed non stop, the service was not great either. The maids would not refill the soap, shampoo etc, if you had one still in the shower that was opened. Several times we had to call down to the front desk to get them to bring up a shampoo because they would have cleaned the room while we were out, not replaced it, my wife would shower/wash hair in the evening and use the rest of it, so my morning shower would not have any shampoo left. (I wasn't looking to take any home, just have enough to use while there) room went unlearned 1 day. Maid checked in at about 10 am, and I asked if she could come back a bit later, she said yes. I put the "maid service requested" tag on the door and when returning that evening it still had not been done. The TV stopped working due to a malfunction of some equipment. They could not fix it and were full so couldn't/wouldn't move us.”
