  • Hawaiian decor and water falls.
  • The pool was not heated.

“Beautiful Hawaiian styling with water falls and bridges over small streams. The hotel staff was fantastic in every way. The service in the main restaurant was horrible, this is coming from a upscale restaurant manager. The pool was not heated, unless the sun was the heater. The room was very clean and comfortable. The dresser cabinet lights did not go off when the doors were shut, I had to take the bulbs out to sleep.”

  • Hip, Trendy, Friendly.
  • No fridge, $12 parking fee.

“Overall our stay at the Crown Plaza hotel was very good. The lobby looked nice and was connected to a bar/restaurant. They also had (pay) internet terminals in the lobby. The bar and pool area were lively and full with people, but that may have been because it was labor day weekend. The bar also has fish tanks in it. The bed was comfortable and the curtains did a good job blocking out the light. Although the AC in our room was a wall unit, it was very powerful and did a great job cooling the room. My only complaints are that the room did not have a fridge, and that there is a $12/day parking fee.”

  • Got a ground floor room with easy access to car. Great bed!
  • Had to pay extra for parking. No fridge. No free internet. Small pool.

“Pros:- Very comfortable bed. Hotel gave out a free CD with instructions and music to relax, with eye cover, aromatherapy spray which were all a nice special touch. Check-in and out was easy and fast. Cons: Gym or more specifically, a hotel room with a few gym equipment was sad. Pool was small. Can be noisy if your room is next to some common areas such as a gazebo area where a family decided to have dinner one night and talked all night long. No free internet. Had to pay $8 a day extra for parking whereas other cheaper hotels had free parking.”

  • Good location and clean.
  • Very noisy and they never did anything about it. I will not stay here again.

“Not a bad location very clean, nice atmosphere. However I will not stay there again due to it being a very noisy hotel, you can hear everything. The people above us had a party almost every night and the hotel did nothing about it. We had to switch rooms to get any sleep. Due to this I will never stay at this hotel again, to many other choices in San Diego to put up with that.”

  • The room and pool were nice.
  • Hotel did not honor my requests.

“The hotel was in a convenient location with nice rooms and pool. The small fridge and microwave were an added bonus. Elevators were very slow.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[8] • Location:[9]

  • Staff was very friendly and helpful; hotel amenities were nice; shuttle service to trolley station was great.
  • Parking was $12 per day, which I feel was excessive. Other hotels in the area did not charge for parking.

“The parking fee ($12) at this hotel still bugs me. I do not like resort fees, parking fees, or any other miscellaneous charges. Just charge me a fair price for everything -- don't nickel and dime me to death!”

  • The staff was very friendly & the restaurant was very good.
  • They really need to install ceiling fans!

“Our stay was very pleasant. The hotel grounds are lush and cool. It is close to everywhere that you need to go.”

  • We really enjoyed the pool area.
  • The equipment in the fitness center didn't really work too well. Closing room doors was very loud.

“We very much liked our experience at the Crown Plaza. It was very relaxing to sit by the pool and the rooms were very inviting and kept very clean. The hotel staff was excellent and provided everything that we asked for in a very prompt manner. The only 2 negatives we found were with the fitness center and the heaviness of the room doors. The equipment in the fitness center did not work really well and the air conditioning didn't appear to be working there. Also, the room doors were very heavy and so when people walked out and let the door close behind them, it was very loud and could be heard all across the hotel. This was difficult for my wife who has sensitive ears. Our overall experience was great and we would stay at the Crown Plaza in mission valley again.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[7] • Location:[6]

  • Fast efficient service when checking in.
  • Had to pay for parking, hard to find hotel room.

“Hotel was very inviting to come in to the lobby. The service agent was helpful and bragged about the amenities which included, ear plugs, lavender spray and a mask to help sleep. Never saw those amenities and we were there 3 nights. Doors slam shut and you can hear when anyone's door shuts. Room was clean and serviced regularly. Room service was fast. Paying for parking was something not mentioned and not used to.”

  • The tropical decor throughout the hotel was a nice touch along with the waterfalls.
  • Unfortunately the parking was not free.

“Very nice, what we expected. I would definitely stay here again.”

  • Very clean hotel. Good location. Relaxing environment.
  • The staff could be more pleasant. Too expensive.

“This hotel was very clean, has a nice comfortable environment. The staff was not pleasant. Too costly for this type of hotel.”

  • Nice room.
  • The outside atmosphere was ugly and restaurants were too pricey!

“The hotel room & bathroom was nice, but from the outside it just looked a step above a motel! We spent $45.00 for breakfast (scrambled eggs and 2 bowls of oatmeal!) and $10.00 for a Quesadilla! I think it was not worth the price.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[9]

  • Very clean and well maintained rooms and grounds.
  • Parking fee.

“A little expensive on the room rates. The corporation and staff take pride in the upkeep of the building and grounds. The courtyards and pool area is like a Hawaiian garden which was a nice surprise. The rooms are nice and clean, no funny odors and the bed is very comfortable. The hotels location is also close to all the main attractions. Yes I would stay here again.”

  • Cleanliness, luxury, location.
  • Some minor maintenance was needed.

“Loved it, would return to hotel, nice and quiet repairs needed closet door (getting stuck), drawer not closing properly. On a visit to the breakfast buffet I watched as an employee ate from two different fruit bowls as he was replenishing them. After that my husband and I lost our appetites and will never again return again to that restaurant. However, the sushi bar had excellent food and service.”

  • The hotel staff was lovely, got me into my room really early and was very helpful.
  • The front desk employee when I was leaving was cold and not helpful.

“Lovely place to stay for business and if you are with family for a vacation. Close to many attractions and I loved the big balconies. Old Town is literally just around the bend and I went there for dinner and to see the Whaley house.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[6] • Location:[9]

  • Neat clean.
  • Everything was very high priced.

“Lobby too small for such a big hotel. Rooms were way too small. Parking was very expensive. And not well staffed. Always had to wait. needs better TVs.”

  • Beds were wonderful.
  • Needed two beds but they were booked. Had to use a cot for 19 yr old son.

“This hotel was all about sleep. Beds were great with down comforters and down pillows. There was a CD from a sleep doctor to help you relax. There is a small gym that had nice up-to-date equipment. Will stay again.”

Cleanliness:[4] • Staff:[4] • Location:[4]

  • Staff was friendly.
  • Layout was confusing; Always got lost trying to find lobby.

“Hotel was okay for a short stay. Would have preferred a different setting. Room was fairly clean, although it did not appear to have been vacuumed prior to our stay. Staff was friendly. Not a big fan of Holiday Inn hotels.”
