  • I liked everything.

“We like coming to this hotel, because it is very relaxing and peaceful.”

  • Excellent service - very accommodating.
  • Starting to look a little tired.

“The location is beautiful, the staff is wonderful, and the carts are fun. The room we had is starting to look a little tired - ceramic tile and grout in bathroom is starting to crack.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • Wonderful views and a very attentive staff.
  • Golf carts are nice- but they always had sand on the seats.

“The hotel was very convenient for travel to and from Monterey and was very comfortable. My wife and I were there for our one year anniversary and we were overly impressed with the room. We enjoyed lazy afternoons watching movies, enjoying the fireplace, and overlooking the ocean!”

  • It was right on the ocean.
  • Couldn't sleep because the people above us were too noisy.

“Don't sleep downstairs if you like to go to bed early. The people above us didn't settle down until after 2 a.m. Spent five hours trying to get an internet connection. Didn't get an internet connection until the last hour on the last day. They charge an environmental fee of $15 a day. Which I don't mind paying, but didn't hear about it until we had to pay the bill.”

  • Beautiful views, peaceful, quiet and romantic.
  • No conveniently located ice machines.

“Gorgeous views, peaceful scenery, heated pool (year round!), romantic suites and relaxing experience. Great for families or for couples. Close to Monterey, Salinas, Seaside, etc. Loved it! Great value. They could easily charge twice as much! Loved it, and wish I were still there!”

  • The view of the ocean was excellent and the room was large and beautiful.
  • We were told they only had king size beds at this hotel.

“This was a very nice hotel with spectacular views of the ocean. The room had a large deck and a beautiful fireplace controlled by a thermostat. And, the robes in the room were awesome! The only disappointment was the $15 per day environmental fee.”

  • Everything. I will definitely be back and stay longer.
  • I was not there long enough.

“It was great. I don't recommend getting an "ocean view" room. Most rooms do not have an ocean view though it will be close to the ocean as the dunes are really large, so basically save your money on this. But it is definitely a great place to stay for a romantic getaway or a family getaway! We got a Dune view and still was able to see the ocean and was only a short walk down to the beach area. Just beautiful! Also, there are stores and things close by for anything you may need. I am planning my next trip.”

  • Very romantic. We took our kids but it would have been nice to be alone.
  • No options for two beds. We didn't know that before booking.

“This hotel was very romantic right on the beach great for the price. Meant for romantic couples, not really for kids but the room was beautiful would go again just with my husband.”

  • Romantic isolation and solitude on beachfront.
  • Only 1 restaurant forced me to dine elsewhere.

“The golf cart amenity complemented the solitude and quiet ambiance, coupled with a romantic fireplace and ocean view. The king sized bed sagged on one side. Bathroom was well appointed with high quality toiletries, although the staff was stingy in not replacing soap bars. The room was quite dark, as two bulbs in key areas near the door were not working. They did not come back to replace a bulb they knew was missing on our check in.”

  • It was kid friendly and offered a lot for the price.
  • The walls were thin, I could hear the neighbors at times.

“It was a great experience. My family loved it. I wish we had a longer visit.”

  • The location, smells and sights were ideal for a romantic stay.
  • Outer covers for all Golf carts would be greatly appreciated.

“This was my first trip to a PGA event at Pebble Beach, actually to any PGA event, and I brought along my wife. So, I needed the stay at The Dunes Resort to be above standard. I was worried when my wife realized that we had to use a golf cart to get to the room, but once we arrived at our room, it was a relief. The view, the smells, the sounds of the ocean, the chocolates on the bed, and the fireplace, all made this a very pleasant stay.”

  • Great service and location.
  • There were ants on the floor of one of our rooms.

“With the beach so close, and our own golf carts to take us around the resort, the kids had a wonderful time. We have booked a trip there after a poor experince at a San Jose hotel, I will make the hour long trip, instead of staying in San Jose.”

  • Location of the hotel located on the ocean was amazing.
  • Aged hotel on beach seeking tender loving care.

“Unique hotel on beach where you need to get on a golf cart to get into your room. Unfortunately, the hotel has aged and the room I had was not updated in a very long time. I tried to get an upgrade or a better room to no avail.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[8] • Location:[10]

  • Good place nice and easy to reach. Only problem, no internet/Wi-Fi access, this is why its not good for business traveler!
  • Lack of internet access, big negative!

“Very nice place, good views, close to beach, water very cold. Will take my wife there real soon. Only negative no internet access!”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[9]

  • Location at the beach above Monterey.
  • Not good internet service in the room.

“This would be a wonderful getaway for leisure couples (with or without kids) who want to be near Monterey but really in touch with the beach and dunes area outside the city. It's a quick drive to Monterey or to 17 mile drive and golf courses. The restaurant was not great but was good and the staff were friendly. I hope to go back with my wife.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[6] • Location:[8]

  • Hotel was literally right next to the sand dunes.
  • The fact that they only had king beds.

“Kids liked driving the golf cart we were assigned to get to our room and around the property.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[7]

  • I loved the fireplace in the room.
  • Check-in time was at 4:00 pm and we could not check in early.

“The hotel was excellent. The staff was very accommodating in allowing us to store luggage prior to check in. They assign golf carts to be driven around the property but because we were leaving so early, they allowed us to keep our vehicle. The bathroom was great and we had a great view of the ocean and property. I would love to come back with my husband. There is a restaurant on property but it closes early (9:00 pm) and is rather pricey. Overall, a very nice property.”

  • Wonderful location! Just beautiful and serene.
  • There are none!

“This hotel is just perfect for a romantic getaway. It is quiet, serene, and peaceful. It is so much nicer than an extravagant luxury hotel. The sunsets are just amazing. We loved our stay.”

  • Total class without being intimidating; the very short stroll to ocean.
  • Nothing.

“Located 15 minutes drive north of Monterey; the Dunes Resort was one of the finest places my wife and I have stayed. Everything was exceptional about the Dunes. The rooms are heated with gas burning fireplace -- romantic and quite functional. Cool winds come in from the ocean. Rooms have great private balconies and the added plus is the fun of driving a golf cart to and from main building (or walking 10 min. if you choose). We saw seals and dolphins our 3 days there. The dolphins cruise by (seals sort of play about 20 yards off shore, look for black balls) morning and late afternoon-- look for fins about 100 yards out.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • This resort was beautiful- we were right on the beach.
  • Rooms needed a microwave on the bar.

“From our room we saw whales in the ocean- the walk to the private beach was very short. The children thought golf carts needed to get to our room were cool. They also enjoyed the pool and play ground. Our room was spacious and they even had a crib.”
