“The hotel was hard to find and the rooms were tiny and outdated. However, the hotel staff was friendly and the hotel was a 20-minute walk to the Wharf. A few drawbacks: I called before I arrived with a question and the phone receptionist was rude. Also, the area was loud (with a Denny's next door and obnoxious hotel guests) with screaming/arguing people outside. With paper-thin walls, it was very difficult to sleep. It was a cheap room and served its purpose, but I probably wouldn't go back.”

“This is an older hotel (probably built late 50's, early 60's) with few upgrades in between. Definitely a no frills place, but not a dive either. For a business traveler w/o a car it might be okay. There is not enough parking (not even half of what they need) and that's a problem. The staff is not especially friendly or helpful. The rooms are clean and look to be fairly newly decorated, though the bathrooms look like they were last updated in the 70's. I paid $63.00 a night (before taxes) so I'm not complaining (for a tourist town like Monterey that's a good deal), but if I had paid much more I would not feel it was a good value. One of the pluses is that the hotel is within walking distance of downtown and the wharf as advertised (about a 15 minute walk). The place is definitely NOT romantic nor luxurious. It worked okay for us for a quick, spontaneously planned trip, even with the minor annoyances (like no parking available). My spouse and I enjoy travel, have traveled throughout the country and outside the US under various circumstances (from luxury to hostel) so we aren't fussy. But this is NOT the place to take someone you'd like to impress. Overall, I'd give it about a star and a half on a scale of one to five.”

“Hotel was fine, but we discovered we were charged at least $35 more than we should have been charged.”
