• Room was very small, no breakfast, no rooms with 2 queen beds.

“Good location, but rooms are very small and no breakfast as was listed. Staff was very sweet to my granddaughter, sent lovely desert for her birthday.”

• Convenient location and staff was great with recommendations and directions.
• Kind of noisy...the bathroom window didn't close completely so we could hear everything outside.

“Very pleasant stay...it was all we needed for a leisure trip to Monterey. We didn't spend much time in it since we were there to explore, but it's location was convenient and the bed was comfy. They have a free DVD service-which is rare and nice and the staff recommended great things to do and wonderful restaurants to enjoy. Heated pool was very nice and fire pit by front was lovely as well. The bathroom windows were slats of glass that didn't close completely so we could hear everything going on outside. Luckily not much was going on...no traffic or anything. Would definitely recommend to those just looking for a nice place to stay. Not if you're looking for family fun or a resort.”

• Very noisy, small rooms, bad parking.

“This hotel was a 3-star upscale hotel, but that rating is not correct. The layout of the hotel is more like a motel with very bad parking. The rooms are very small and very noisy. The location of the hotel is decent in Monterey, but you can do much better at other hotels. On the plus side, there was good wireless high-speed in the rooms and the staff was very friendly. The 24 hour complimentary business center was also helpful. The public areas of the hotel were very well done, but the lodging needs improvement.”

• Too much noise from people above us till 1 am.

“Coffee cups, coffee maker and other such items were not clean. People above us were too loud and walking around until very late in the night. Carpets in the rooms were not very clean. Great location, close to lots of restaurants. Comfortable beds.”

• Nicely renovated, friendly, nice amenities.
• Bed too soft, bed arrangement agreed upon by phone needed to be adjusted upon arrival.

“Nicely renovated old buildings. Nice amenities. Friendly atmosphere, like a boutique hotel. Better choice than many others at the same star level.”

• Hotel is under construction-remodel-some noise.

“I think when completed this will be a great hotel. It is well located in Monterey and will have a spa when the remodel is done. They are well set up for business traveler with internet N/C. The restaurant was great and the staff was excellent.”

• Pretty good location, staff was excellent!
• Parking was a bit of a problem, also, would like better seating in room.

“Excellent staff, very helpful! Room was quite adequate, but wished it had better seating for in-room relaxing. Lobby and public space was very accommodating. Location was good and easy walk to many attractions. Only real downside was parking not always available near room. But a little walk never hurt me anyway.”

“I was not at all impressed with this hotel, and would not consider it at all a 3 1/2 star hotel. The room I was originally given was small, had no air conditioning, could hear everyone out in the parking lot, smelled like mildew, and then once I was in bed for the night, the pipes started banging and I had to switch rooms. The staff upgraded me to a suite, which had that been my first experience, I would probably not have had a complaint.”

• The staff (even the cleaning staff) made us feel very welcome and the intimacy of the restaurant was an enhancement to our romantic weekend.
• There is a bit of construction going on (April 2008) and just a bit to far to walk to the ocean/Warf, but the cab ride wasn't too bad.

“This was a great surprise destination. Very friendly staff, nice rooms, on site restaurant and just a $7.00 cab ride to the Warf and Cannery Row.”

• The room was large & a fireplace in it was just perfect. I wish I had brought someone to share it with.
• The carpet is really ugly.

“I thought that this was one of the nicer hotel that I have stayed in when I have been in Monterey. The restaurant was fabulous. The staff was great, I was 1st put into a room next to the pool, but since I wanted to nap in the mid afternoon & there were a ton of children screaming & having water fun they were able to switch my room w/o delay or complaint. It was wonderful. I wish I brought my so that we could have enjoyed the room & fireplace together very romantic.”

• Decor of the room was nice.
• No A/C, No Elevators.

“The Hotel Lobby and restaurant were first class, the rooms are set up with 8 units per building with exterior corridors, and the decor in the rooms reminded me of a beach cottage and was very clean. A few maintenance items need to be corrected bath room door wouldnt close, no a/c, the handrail outside of the front door has a bad case of termites. Overall we were pleased with our stay.”

• It's more like a remodel motel than hotel.

“It is not the room or people that we don't like about this hotel, it's the location and the surrounding. Room is very small, and no A/C. We went on the day that was very hot, and a tower fan was bought to our room. If you are planning a romantic getaway, we will not recommend it. We will prefer to pay a little more for a better hotel. This hotel worth 2 stars for us.”

• Location close to the ocean was a plus. Villa type accommodation.
• Dining restaurant had very poor lighting (dark) we had been told there would be entertainment (flamenco guitarist) but then not that evening.

“Beautiful and newly remodeled, including the new workout facility, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Equidistant from downtown and Highway 1, you could get anywhere in a snap. We loved the in-room DVD player, the afternoon fresh-baked cookies, the morning breakfast and the pool. You will love the mirrors and the bathroom decor.”

• Front desk person not so welcoming.

“After traveling all day on highway one, coming in at check- in time and not having our room ready nor being greeted by friendly front desk got us off on the wrong foot. I noticed right away the stained carpet in the rooms (bad stains) and the overall age of the hotel. Otherwise, beds were comfortable and the housekeeper was very apologetic and kind. I did enjoy the new fitness room.”

• Very easy to find (found it on accident) and the staff was great. Free DVD rentals too!
• The walls are paper thin. You can hear everyone and everyone can hear you.

“The lack of sound dampening is a huge problem at this hotel. The room was nice and the staff was stupendous but the walls were paper thin. You can hear every little sound from a couple rooms around you. The parking lot was a bit cramped and parking wasn't always easy to find. But, it was in a nice location and was comfortable.”
