“The hotel was dirty and did not appear at all as described. It is certainly only a 1-star hotel, if that (I'd stay at a super 8 before I'd stay here again). The room was old, out-dated, with a terrible florescent light. It was cold at night, and the heat didn't work. When the front desk was called, they simply responded with "it's not on yet, sorry!", and would not offer or bring extra blankets. They also would not allow a 30-minutes late check-out, despite the hotel being nearly empty. Overall, the hotel was poorly maintained, unclean, and the service was terrible. This hotel has nothing to offer, not even a good view!”

“Stayed for one night. Hotel staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Atmosphere was relaxing. Excellent place to stay if you are on a golfing trip.”

“We found this hotel to be charming, located in a lovely setting in the hills above Santa Cruz. The bed was very comfortable, fabulous! Free breakfast was included in a pleasant dining room. There is no air conditioning, though there is a ceiling fan. The highway traffic was quite noisy, so we could not leave the windows open at night to enjoy a cool breeze. That was the only downside to our stay, otherwise a very good experience. Rooms facing the gardens would probably not have this concern.”

“A great place for a honeymoon and family alike. Staff was very helpful. Great location for a quiet getaway and only a few minutes from the beach and boardwalk. I highly recommend this place.”

“If you are going to have to get in your car to get to the beach anyway, it is worth driving the extra mile to stay at the Inn at Pasatiempo. The grounds were beautiful with lots of flowers. The pool was large and had bathrooms. (With young children, it is nice not having to run to your room each time someone has to go.) The room was a bit older, but was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly. and the many clocks in the dining room were fun to watch.”

“Loved the layout of the rooms with all rooms on one level. Parking was easy and convenient and the rooms provided privacy for all guests.”

“This hotel was comfortable - especially the bed was always clean and well made up. However, the lack of air conditioning made hot nights less comfortable. Because of this, I'd rate it a 2 star property.”

“I would stay again. Very nice hotel. Spacious rooms, beautiful grounds. Out of the traffic jam of Santa Cruz, but not so far away to be inconvenient.”

“I was extremely impressed by this hotel. I travel a lot for business and have stayed in many, many hotel and this was by far, one of the best. I loved the little pack of things we got when we checked in the stuff was very useful. I also loved the shampoo/conditioner and other stuff in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and elegant. My stay couldnt have been any better! Also, we had lunch at the restaurant there was awesome! I am a vegan and I had the tofu/noodle dish. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten. And the bartender was extremely nice and friendly and really made our day”

“Give this place a wide berth! Carpets were greasy, there was black mold in the shower/tub, toilet was dirty. Requests for clean-up did not net any results. Nor were there any improvements after regular service the next day. Hostile management/desk. I could have had a wonderful room at the Fairmont or Ritz-Carlton! Meals were so-so. Forget this place. Motel 6 will be just as good, if not better.”

“I was happy to find this motel although I was not so happy about its location or finding large number of motorcycles in the parking lot of its restaurant when we arrived late at night. The noise was terrific and we had to have our window open because the only ventilation was a ceiling fan and the window. There were bugs in the room. The room was otherwise clean and neat. Minimal accessories and towels small. Not a 3 star by any means! Happy we only stayed 1 night. Location was okay for us. People at the desk were very nice and accommodating.”

“The facilities at this hotel were practically non-existent. We did not try the restaurant or bar facilities as the hotel had a function that evening which completely consumed the place and the parking lot. There was no offer of assistance to the room when we arrived, probably because the few staff they have were busy with the function. Complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby consisted of a few tired looking doughnuts, bruised apples with coffee or tea in paper cups. The hotel is also right at the top of the off ramp from highway 17 so it is extremely noisy. We were extremely disappointed.”

“We were very disappointed in this hotel. We had stayed in a hotel rated 2 star in Half Moon Bay that was so nice. This hotel was probably furnished and decorated about 20 years ago. The beds were horrible. Wallpaper was worn out. The bathroom was clean. Groundskeeper was very nice and kept outside well cared for. But once you got in the room, not very nice. No non-sugar options for breakfast. We stopped eating donuts about 20 years ago. This hotel is in a time warp. This is not a 3 star any more.”

“Sounds ritzy: The Inn at Pasatiempo. Not so! Filthy bathrooms, terrible smell in room, greasy carpet. Adjacent steakhouse had thin, dried out steaks. Stay home and eat at McDonald's! You'll be happier and get a better deal!”

“Proximity to UCSC was great. Although the personnel were friendly, our phone was not turned on & had to figure that out @ 11pm w/ a walk to the lobby in the dark... The rooms were clean, but came with traffic noise from the 17. The beautiful gardens that were shown on their web site were not to be found.”

“Most of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Room service was prompt and the food was good. The room was spacious with vaulted ceilings, very rustic and attractive, although it did have a strange, old, stale odor. The bathroom sink was in the process of falling off the wall and instead of being fixed properly, was just caulked repeatedly so it now leans. The location is just minutes from everything in Santa Cruz and easy to find. Parking was difficult when we arrived but later the lot was almost empty so we assumed the cars had been there for the restaurant and bar. We liked the noon checkout and thought it very generous. All things considered it was a nice experience with a couple of small bumps.”

“Nice clean and comfortable, if a bit dated. The setting was beautiful and it was convenient to everything. Staff was pleasant. Internet didn't work (too mountainous?) Walls are a bit thin, and closing the front door shook the whole room, but it was quiet generally.”

“Beautiful setting and very quiet. Nice continental breakfast on weekends, but not as plentiful on weekdays. Very comfortable just needs a little TLC inside the room. Would stay here again.”
