• Nice lobby, rooms and grounds.
• There was a surcharge for everything, $25/day to park.

“The hotel was nice and in a nice neighborhood, we stayed there to attend a concert at Berkeley's Greek Theatre which was in walking distance. The hotel staff front desk staff was a little snooty and the hotel charged ridiculous prices for parking.”

• Hidden charges. paid for service that never used or plan of using. Charge was not optional.

• Beautiful historic resort hotel.
• Breakfast buffet was fairly ordinary.

“We've admired the Claremont Resort for years, having grown up in the Oakland hills. We were in the Bay Area to attend the Cal football game on Saturday and celebrate my birthday on Sunday. Our experience at the hotel was outstanding. Our room was small, but elegant, with rustic touches you'd expect in a historic hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the large shower was wonderful. The staff was friendly and the self-parking was very convenient. My wife likes to swim, but she found the pool teeming with so many people that it was impossible to swim. At breakfast on Monday morning we found the food in the breakfast buffet to be rather ordinary with few choices beyond the usual scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit and cereal. Having grown up in the Oakland hills, I've probably driven by the Claremont thousands of times. I had my high school senior ball there and my thirtieth high school reunion. But this is the first time we've stayed there and it was a very enjoyable experience.”

• Beautiful location and rooms. Staff was great. Very old world swank.
• Rooms on the view side-great of Golden Gate and Bay Bridge, overheated and could not be cooled, but they moved us to an even better room!

“When our room was too warm, the management moved us to a much nicer, larger room. That was great. Good walking neighborhoods and a variety of restaurants within a mile or so. Beautiful grounds, but the additional fees were an unpleasant surprise.”

• First room was looking at the kitchen exhaust vents and second room AC wasn't working.

Once my room was settled, the overall experience was fine though I am not too likely to go back. Though renovated (supposedly), hotel still has that dated look to it.”

“Probably the nicest hotel, convenient to most of Berkeley, although the one on the Marina is great too. Like most Spa-oriented hotels, they think a little more highly of themselves than I think is warranted, but it really is a lovely facility. Breakfast was good although they brought me no spoon for my oatmeal. But I'm whining - really, it was comfortable and clean and convenient and we would stay again.”

“I was very disappointed to discover my hotel bill was increased by $24.00 with a resort fee. The resort fee and services were not optional. Also parking was $25.00.”

• Beautiful old world hotel with wonderful amenities.
• Could not get a room with two beds.

“Additional fees apply for resort facilities, but the pool, spa and tennis was worth it. Great location for access to SF and Napa area.”

• The ambiance.

“Very beautiful hotel, with great views. Bathrooms need to be remodeled as the linoleum and tube tile were worn, as were the mirrors. Bed was comfortable, lobby was amazing.”

• Great exercise facility, beautiful location.
• Extra fees added on for facility $24! No Bathtub, only shower.

“The Claremont Hotel added on a $24 facility fee. The hotel common spaces were beautiful. The room was spacious with two very comfortable beds. No tub in the bathroom, but nice shower. Valet parking was approximately $25 per day. Adequate hotel restaurant.”

• The room was terrible. Spa was overpriced.

• Stately hotel, great location, wonderful spa.
• Tiny room off main corridor.

“We have always loved the Claremont. Their facilities and location are second to none in Berkeley. We were told the room came with a king bed but this room could not have accommodated a king bed. The room was clean and tidy but again, very cramped. Not sure we would ever do this again.”

• Nice location, very historic.
• The view out of the room was horrible. A greasy dirty ugly air conditioner, and a litter scattered roof. It would have been better to have no windows.

• I liked the location - we could walk to many things in Berkeley.
• Dirty room: woodwork dirty and the bathroom had hair on the floor when we arrived.

“While I do expect parking charges, we were also charged a resort fee which was a surprise and a disappointment - I think that all fees related to staying at the hotel (we did not even use the resort facilities). As expected, they put us in a less-desirable room location, which I usually don't mind, but we were awakened by housekeeping at 7:00 am!”

• Nice lobby area, close to Berkeley activities.
• Noisy, poor service, uncomfortable bed.

“We were very disappointed in the hotel. After many years of travel all over the world, it was the first time we were asked to pay $30 per person to allow our guests to use the swimming pool (this is on top of our daily $24 resort fee). We were told we could not sit on the patio at Jordan's for cocktails because lunch was still being served, even though there were plenty of open tables. And the waiter took well over fifteen minutes to take our order. Finally, for the final coup de grace, the wall in our room rattled every five minutes, our bed was extremely uncomfortable, and the tub just refused to drain.”
