  • Location.
  • No coffee 3 times, when I went to the lobby, during 12 days.

“Nice location. Friendly staff. Maybe a 3 1/2 star, but not a 4 star hotel.”

  • Excellent location.
  • No place to comfortably sit to watch television or read.

“Nice room amenities (though with dim bathroom lighting) and pleasant decor. Walls seem a little thin, the television could be heard in the next door room late and early. Helpful staff. Central to cable car line, arts, and good restaurants.”

  • The staff excelled in customer service and the hotel was well appointed. The staff is far superior to many 5-star hotels I've stayed at.
  • Getting in and out of this busy & popular location can be challenging.

“The Hotel Palomar and Kempton Hotels in general have the best customer service I've experienced in a long time. They consistently have the best trained staff, far exceeding even the best five star hotels I've stayed at around the world. The hotel is well appointed; not luxurious but modern in style and very comfortable. I would highly suggest requesting an exterior room during your stay. Interior rooms don't have an attractive view. The restaurant and lounge are lovely and great for meeting friends and family. We stayed here with our two dogs in tow for one week and always looked forward to returning to the hotel after a long day of site seeing!”

  • Beds very comfy, room quiet, very plush w/nice amenities.
  • Restaurant was very expensive.

“Loved the interior of the king deluxe room my husband and I stayed in. The bed was more comfortable than my bed at home, which is not usual. The room was very quiet and I slept like a baby, which is also not usual. Staff was friendly and helpful.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[8]

  • Great service.
  • Lousy room service.

“Recommend this hotel for lovely, if small, rooms, good amenities, and a staff that always aims to please. The food and service that you get with room service is pretty subpart; the food was cold and was the wrong order the first time around. Other than that, it's a great place to stay.”

  • The quality of the facilities and friendliness of the staff.
  • Parking in so is expensive.

“Having stayed at several of the large Name-brand 4 star hotels in so, I was worried about this selection. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't use much of the lobby facilities anyway, so it didn't matter. The staff was great and the room was very nice and quiet. It was a romantic weekend for my wife and me. We often travel with our 2 kids (daughter 17, son 12). This hotel would not have been a good venue for that type of stay. It was perfect for what we wanted to do. The price was higher than we usually have to pay, due to the summer tourist season. Being local to the bay area we usually stay in so off-season for a much lesser price. But, considering the market, timing, etc. It was excellent.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[5] • Location:[10]

  • The hotel was very clean and seemed newly decorated. The staff was very professional.
  • Our room was not what we thought we were getting.

“The hotel is in a great location, and the lobby staff valet and Bellhop was extremely helpful and pleasant. The representative said it would not be a problem and that everything was all set. After we checked in and went to our room, we found a king bed. The hotel manager said they were sold out for the night and did not offer anything else to compensate for. They could have offered something for the inconvenience. I hardly got an apology. I ended up sleeping on the floor.”

  • Great location and friendly/helpful staff. NY Times on Sunday morning.
  • Need more at breakfast, coffee/tea in small cups was insufficient.

“Great hotel, will definitely return. Fantastic location, nice/clean/simple rooms and the NY Times on Sunday. We were pleasantly surprised by the value and level of service.”

  • Great location for the AT&T ballpark & shopping.
  • The bathroom is really close to your bed too close.

“Great Location to the Ballpark, great shopping, Staff is friendly, beautiful hotel, close to the cable cars, union square and easy to get around. Enjoyed our stay there.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • Sony electronics everywhere in the room.
  • Nothing.

“The room was impeccable -- everything was well-kept (i.e., no broken fixtures, no molded grout in the tub, etc). Staff was very courteous. Regular king bedded room had ample space, and had 2 chairs for the desk in addition to the comfy chair in the corner. Free wireless in the rooms worked flawlessly. Overall, just an impeccable stay at Hotel.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • Great location, staff and facility. Easy access.
  • Restaurant too high end & pricey to try out for a San Francisco location.

“You should have more classes of travel: we were combining business with pleasure. Business traveler and spouse.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[9]

  • Front desk staff was superb - professional, friendly and extremely helpful.
  • Experienced an emergency evacuation but it was handled in an orderly, calm fashion - false alarm.

“Excellent location for shopping, business near union square. Bart station steps away; room was comfortable, extremely clean and staff was the best. Front desk staff was the best I've ever encountered - friendly, warm and couldn't do enough to help. Lobby is small and not for lounging, but well decorated, clean and great doormen.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • We loved the contemporary decor. Room was right on Market Street but very quiet, comfortable bed.
  • We had a bad service experience having breakfast 15 minutes before any service at all.

“Beautiful hotel in a prime San Francisco downtown location.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • The location was convenient. Close to the downtown area!
  • The parking rates were very expensive, even for San Francisco. The window view was disappointing (into a neighboring office building).

“The rooms are clean, stylish and sophisticated. The staff were super-friendly and efficient. The view from the inner courtyard rooms is into a neighboring office building (not exactly ideal). The hotel parking was nearly $45 per night, pricey by just about anyone's standards. The restaurant and bar are very appealing with classy decor. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. I would recommend to just about anyone who seeks sophisticated lodging.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • Not too large, (8 floors) - not too small (boutique).
  • Traffic is bad and homeless people are prevalent a block away.

“The Palomar hotel is graced with professional 'can I help you" without seemly being noisy and overly helpful. Good looking security personnel were obvious by the front door and given homeless people around, it were comforting. And with their fifth floor restaurant within the hotel, great food and service at a cost was worth it. Although there's no real view from most of the floors (small hotel but larger than a "boutique" - who cares, I just like to eat, sleep and get served well when Iżm running about.”
