“There was no air conditioning. The switch that said cooler would only speed up the ceiling fan.”

“The Chancellor Hotel in San Francisco is not a 3-star hotel. No fridge, no AC, and very small room. Even Motel 6 has better accommodations. I was very disappointed.”

“Hotel staff were really friendly and helpful, the little lady in the booth near the front desk was a bit odd, but also helpful. The location was perfect and close to transport, restaurants and entertainment. The room was lovely and perfect for 2 people visiting the city.”

“Great place for a business traveler, or a quick night in San Francisco. If you're looking for ultra-comfort, this is not the place. If you're looking for a place to lay your head down at night, after a day of walking around the city, this is a great place. For breakfast, skip room service, and head right next door to Sears Fine Foods - a little touristy, but a great way to start the day.”

“We were shocked and disappointed to find out it has no A/C. Thankfully, the weather was fair enough that we did not need A/C. However, I wonder how it would be in a hot day. The room was somewhat cramped. But other than that, the location was good and room decor was good. The staff did not seem all friendly, i.e., no smiles and no greetings.”

“It is ridiculous to expect air conditioning in San Francisco. We were there in weird weather, and we melted in the heat with only a ceiling fan to move air. We had a room only slightly larger than the bed itself. We decided that we need a bit more luxury at our senior age. We will stay in a hotel with more stars next time. The staff were very nice, but the hotel needs redecorating.”

“Free "High-Speed" Internet access is laughably slow. Slower than dial up. Much slower. Caveat: May be due to excessive demand. (I was attending a computer convention, and other guest may have been there for the same reason.)”

“This hotel is across the street from the Francis Drake, which I prefer. Here's my list of gripes: - No smoking floor- Staff treated me like a criminal. Wireless internet was worthless. Had to connect to a free service I picked up. Lumpy mattress. Remote didn't work well- Noisy headboard-had to jam a shirt in there. Heater wouldn't shut off. Had to sleep with the windows open. Room smelled like mold. Slow elevators. Asked one of the front desk folks to get me a cab. On the bright side: - Because I had to leave my windows open, I got to hear some good jazz played by one of the bums on the sidewalk. Room service breakfast was tasty.”

“A great location for touring the city. Across the street from Union Square. Get off the Cable car right in front of the hotel. Easily accessible by all public transportation. The renovated rooms are small but the value is big.”

“We felt we had lucked into an excellent deal the hotel had extremely tasteful, upscale appointments (nothing gaudy) and was as clean and neat as we could have hoped. Its location was another great plus right off of Union Square next to sears restaurant, which we have enjoyed for years. We will definitely return.”

“During the holidays staying close to the street, you may experience people around the Union Square area partying- a lot of noise, etc. But the hotel is an excellent place to stay. I give high praise to the staff and the excellent service I experienced.”

“II was traveling with my wife and two kids and my wife and daughter ended up sleeping on the floor as we couldn't get comfortable in the tiny beds. The room was so small it was hard to find enough room on the floor for them to sleep and certainly no room for a rollaway bed. The area at night seemed dangerous to me and we did not feel safe - but that can't be helped and I wouldn't have minded that alone. I was very disappointed with the room and beds and we moved the next night to the Hilton.”

“Great location with old time charm. Nice attention to detail in the rooms. Bedding, pillows and towels were of high quality. Manager extremely accommodating and available. Better instruction regarding where to leave car when checking in would be nice. Rooms were small, but we lacked nothing. Overall, a great stay.”
