  • Staff was helpful (found my son's handheld game player and kept it for us).
  • Most rooms cramped.

“Our trip to so was a family vacation - 3 families, none from large cities, so we were hicks on an adventure. We found it to be a good base of operations-near union square, Powell/market cable car terminus, Bart. A good place for those who don't mind the noise from Powell or O¿Farrell; poor choice for those seeking peace & quiet. The complimentary coffee in the charming lobby was a great way to plan our daily activities. The wine tasting in the evening was a nice to unwind and plan any evening activities. Our room (601) was large enough for 2 double beds and a roll-away for our 16 year old. Others' rooms were cramped. Both had to ask to be moved, but requests were accommodated without problems. Staff was pleasant, rooms clean. I would recommend for vacationers. .”

  • It had very interesting décor.
  • We had reserved a queen and only got a double. Room had no view and was very tiny.

“We've stayed at the Hotel Monaco and were a little disappointed about the quality of this hotel being that they are run by the same company. Small rooms and the one we had a view of nothing but the air exhaust system, but it was nicely located in the heart of downtown San Fran. The creaking wooden floor were quaint. Had to wait a VERY long time for valet parking.”

Cleanliness:[5] • Staff:[4] • Location:[6]

  • Location is convenient.
  • The hotel did not run hot water late night and early morning. It is also very noisy at night because of constructions on Powell Street.

“The hotel is too noisy at night because of construction on Powell street that I woke up several times at night. Also, there was no hot water available at night and early morning. So I was not able to take a shower for 2 days. For a business trip, it may be a decent hotel. Otherwise, I would not recommend and stay again.”

  • Great location and wonderful restaurant.
  • Noisy street because right downtown.

“We loved it. It had a wonderful European atmosphere. Good lobby opening out into wonderful restaurant. Wine tasting in the evening at bar area where you could also have dinner. Also small bar area by fireplace where you could also have dinner. A great experience except for traffic noise.”

  • Really liked the location and convenience.
  • My visit was marred only by a group of other guests, nothing hotel could do.

“The hotel is right off of Union Square, very close to restaurants, public transportation, shopping, etc. Very nice, well-known restaurant on the premises. Room was decent size, staff was friendly.”

  • Location.
  • Very small room.

“Decent hotel overall, great location. Seemed more like a Euro hotel in size and amenities.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[7] • Location:[10]

  • Outstanding restaurant.
  • Location of rooms, very noisy.

“Quaint, charming, European styled hotel. Rooms on the small side. There was major construction in the immediate area, 24 hours a day. Made sleeping impossible. Don't know if we given a room on the other side of the hotel if it would have been better. I think so. Excellent suggestions by the concierges.”

  • Great experience.
  • Not local wine.

“Easy to get to, great staff, everyone wanted to please. Remote control could be easier to use for TV. Tub could use a bleach job. I was a hotel manager so I could be a little on the pickier side but over all great hotel and we will visit again soon.”

  • The hotel was great, what I liked the most was the DVD player in the room with honor bar.
  • The business center internet was very expensive.

“Very nice hotel, great beds and nice bedding, lovely honor bar, friendly staff, was all good. Will recommend.”

  • Friendly, helpful staff, very nice pillows & bedding, tended to little things travelers need.
  • It was a little noisy.

“this turn of the century hotel caters to the traveler. Someone was always available to help with tourist directions, bags, or whatever was needed. The restaurant served delicious meals at reasonable prices.”

  • It truly gave you the feeling of old San Francisco.
  • Nothing

“Small but clean rooms. Noisy because of trolley cars and very busy street but that's what made it an exciting stay, you feel like your right in the mix of the city. Oh! we didn't have trouble falling sleeping. The staff was very helpful.”

  • Great Location, Great Restraunt,Great Service.
  • Street Side Rooms Very noisy!

“Overall I thought this was a very nice botique hotel. However I was disapointed in our street side room. It was very noisy. The service was great. And the restraunt was great. Rooms small but what I expected of an older botique hotel. Overall I had a good experience and would stay there again but would definitely request a room away from the main street!”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[3] • Location:[6]

  • Hotel lobby had an "Old World" feel to it.
  • Bed was slanted so your feet were above your head.

“Hotel is on Union Square, great for shopping, but near a significant amount of beggars.I received a room with a slanted floor. The only problem with this is the bed then was also slanted. (Your feet were above your head, making it difficult to sleep.) Hotel did not have a "Do not Disturb" sign for the room. I left my sleeping wife, and the hotel staff walked in our room. I and my wife did not feel safe in the room, then. I expressed my concerns to the front desk, and they seemed impartial. San Francisco is a world class city with many spectacular hotels. Try a different hotel, I would not recommend this one. Being the first experience, I doubt I will ever stay at one again.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[6] • Location:[7]

  • Location was good, room was quiet.
  • Room faced old brick wall, too hot, no ventilation.

“We only saw our room but it was marginal at best. The only window faced a brick wall (and we were on the top floor). The window could only be opened a few inches and the room was hot and stuffy. The bed sagged and was uncomfortable.”

Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • Smart sharp decor, Excellent location for Union Square shopping
  • Street Parking limited for loading and unloading. Valet Parking expensive.

“Villa Florence is situated ideally and centrally in Union Square and has a smart clean ambience with sharp decor in dark navy and burgundy colors. Staff are attentive without being imposing, and casual atmosphere is found with the dining area bar reception area foyer in open plan design on walking through the main doors. Historic Westin St.Francis was just a few yards north where my meeting was located and very convenient.”

  • The manager's hour every evening was very thoughtful
  • They advertise wireless internet in every room, but not every room actually has it

“I was extremely pleased with the charm, value, and exceptional level of service and quality at the Villa Florence - and will definitly look to stay there again in the future. My only complaint is that they advertise that they have wireless internet in every room, and they don't. I spoke with 3 other people whose rooms also did not have internet. The hotel's response was that you could come and work in the lobby, and that was not a convienent solution.”
