• The reception was nice, and the staff was receptive.
• Parking cost me an additional $40, and the clerk was rude about collecting it.

“The hotel has a nice/cozy bar and welcomes its guest with a wine reception after 5pm. It is walking distance from china town and in the middle of many shops and stores. The room was very small and the TV was out dated. This hotel seemed to be very over priced for the worth. I would have rather stayed in a less convenient place and spent less for more amenities, and parking was an additional $40, that is crazy considering how much money I spent to stay one night, and the hotel staff was very smug about collecting this fee that I was not informed of when they offered to park my car.”

• The staff and the exceptional service I received, as well as the complimentary wine every night!
• Rooms were a little on the small side, however the hotel staff upgraded us to larger room for no additional fee.

“This hotel is very classy, warm, inviting, comfortable and quaint! Exceptional staff, everyone! I've never been disappointed, but this was absolutely the best service, I've experienced yet.”

• The nicest hotel staff, bar none.
• Poor room conditions, no AC, old bedding.

“There are better choices for hotels in the boutique category in s.f.o. although the staff was excellent, the hotel's decor and room furnishings were lacking quality.”

• Very cozy, great staff and bar.
• Not every room is equipped with AC.

“Very cozy and convenient hotel. The Rex has a very boutique feel to it. The staff is friendly and helpful. The bar is also very cozy, with friendly bartenders and a daily complimentary glass of wine which is a nice bonus!”

• Great location, friendly staff, pretty and special room decoration.
• Small rooms.

“We stayed there with our two kids (1 and 8 years old). We had a good time there, but the hotel room was quite small for us, because we had a portable crib for the baby. But the room was very nice, so we still liked it. We liked the lobby and small bar very much and enjoyed the complementary wine in the evening. Our kids played or read there, we enjoyed the atmosphere and relaxed from the day. The staff was very friendly. We would go there again.”

• I was very close to where we wanted to be in the city.
• The room was very small, they charged us $40 a day to park our car.

“I liked the hotels location but the amenities did not match up with the price. And I was not told that I would be charged $40.00 a day for parking until I checked out, (not good).”

• Decor is fantastic, location is great, staff was friendly.
• One unhelpful front desk representative, no air conditioner.

“Hotel Rex was a great hotel. The service was very good, with one exception. The room was very plush and the little details were a nice touch. The lack of airflow in the room was somewhat annoying; our room was in the back of the hotel and even with the window open no fresh air made it into the room. I'm sure rooms on the front side of the hotel did not have this problem; therefore if I were to stay again, I would request this. The valet parking was nice as well, however, the one exception I encountered with poor service from the front desk relates to parking. I called down the night before I was checking out; I was leaving very early in the morning, around 5am. I inquired about the process for getting my car that early, and she told me the attendants are not working at that time and I would have to walk to retrieve my car. From a customer service perspective, I think that was poor service offering no other alternative, such as retrieving my car that evening and parking it on the street in front of the hotel. I would expect more from one of the more upscale hotels, and that I'm paying $35/day for valet service. However the next morning I went down to check-out and the person working the desk was very, very, very pleasant and acknowledged that they should have made some kind of arrangement with my car. I did have to walk the block to get my car, thankfully only a block, and when I returned to load the car the front desk rep had made coffee for us. That is the type of service that makes the difference. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel.”

• I loved the decor of old San Francisco literary society. Very imaginative.
• The room was a bit dark, looking out onto an airshaft. The air conditioning could have worked better.

“I wished we had a longer time to stay in San Francisco. We had a delightful time at the conveniently situated Rex Hotel. The price was right for the amenities provided and the imaginative decor. Staff was very professional and pleasant. I'll definitely stay again.”

• The service was great and the staff was very helpful.
• The room was small but I guess thats part of the San Fran Character.

“It was a great hotel and experience for my wife and I on our Honeymoon. The only negative was the stree noise at night, we didn't sleep well at all. Although the views down the street were enjoyable it may be better to have a room not on the street.”

• It has a great location.
• Rooms are rather small.

“The hotel has a great location. It is one block from the union square. Third day of my stay I had to change my room because walking of the people upstairs was disturbing and waking me up. So if you are planning to sleep till afternoon make sure you get a room on the seventh floor. Also rooms are very small.”

• I liked the personal approach as opposed to the corporate brands such as Westin and the like. Free Internet and complimentary wines were nice
• I thought the hotel was fine, nothing I did not like.

“The hotel is at a convenient location, provides good service and if you like jazz music, there is plenty of it in the hotel, even sample cd's in the rooms.”

• Clean, very attentative staff. very comfortable.
• Service in the restaurant was slow.

“Very close to Union Sq. and shopping, good restaurants and in general the place to be in SF. Rooms were clean and comfortable, AC and heater worked well. For a 3 star it was a very enjoyable stay. Staff was especially helpful. A+ for the staff.”

• Convenient location to union square and other SF locations.

“Hotel Rex is conveniently located in Union Square. Cabs were easy to find and there were parking garages everywhere. The hotel elevator is tiny, so don't expect to cram big luggages into it. The staff was not as friendly as I expected them to be nor as knowledgeable about the area.”
