“We stayed with the historic anchorage hotel on February 16th thru the 17th exploring the possibility of a relocation. Everything was great; the room, the hospitality of everyone at the hotel and the information you left us about the local schools was helpful. They had such great generosity.”

“No air-conditioning. This would normally not seem like a big deal in Alaska, however, in June when it's very sunny for 20 hours a day, and can reach eighty degrees outside, A/C is a must. 20 hours of sunlight makes the black-out curtains seem like a sensible feature to the room, but keep in mind that black-out curtains also prohibit cool air from getting in. Additionally, windows do not come with screens, allowing bugs and other creatures full access to your room and belongings. When the manager was questioned about this, her reply was that this being a historic hotel, A/C is not offered. Living in a city teeming with historic hotels (Chicago), I have never heard of this. For three-hundred dollars a night, a little modern comfort like window screens and temperature control should be included. Though their website does not say that the rooms are A/C equipped, nowhere on the site does it warn that guests should expect their comfort to be at the hands of the weather outside. All in all, I'd say this small feature ruined our impression of this otherwise pretty little hotel.”
