  • Pretty landscape.
  • Remote, run-down, boring and unremarkable (UGH).

“A guide book that we bought (and read after the fact) compared the resort to something out of the movie The Shining. We agree. The location is out in the middle of nowhere. It is scenic but there is nothing to do. I wanted to take golf lesson but the shack of a pro shop/club house (literally a shack) is closed. Unless you want to vacation like a hermit, cook 100% of your meals in a run-down kitchen (closest restaurants are in Kona or Hilo almost an hour away) and have no other activities but for sitting in a cold pool or a Jacuzzi without having to drive 30 minutes to an hour away, do not go to hotel.”

  • Beautiful location, nice comfortable cottages.
  • Run down facilities (golf course, club house) no store within miles.

“We have been going to Sea Mountain for over twenty years. Originally it had a small convenience shop and a thriving club house. It was bought by the Japanese with plans for total remodeling and improvement and expansion of the facilities. However, that went by the board and it was bought by a local firm (Roberts of Hawaii) and all the facilities suffered a decline. the golf course's natural beauty is spoiled by neglect and the clubhouse was closed before it fell down. Last trip ('06) we were told of new owners and progress on all fronts. Do you know the current status of Sea Mountain--has anything of substance been done????”

  • Beautiful grounds and remoteness from crowds.
  • Cold swimming pool and distance to grocery & restaurant.

“Hotel is situated near the extreme s. End of the big island. 26 miles from Kilauea volcanoes visitor center. No crowds, but the nearest mini-grocery was 5 miles away. One bedroom unit was spacious, well equipped and clean. View was great over a golf fairway to the ocean. (Not all the units have unobstructed views.) A beautiful unheated pool (cold) and spacious (and warm) hot tub.”
