• Location with free shuttle.
• The pool did not have great upkeep.

“This was a great hotel for the price and location. The room was clean but the pool was disappointing. The grounds were well kept. There were turtles.”

• Close to many other hotels so we can try other restaurants.
• Unfriendly front desk staff, poor room cleaning & towel services.

“Refused to consider the slightest upgrade e.g. move to a higher floor or a better view. We were on the 2nd floor right overlooking the flat roof of the restaurant & meeting rooms. Beware, Avis car rental will charge you an hour rate if you so much as to return the car one minute late. That is the policy of Avis at the Kona airport. Always ask what the grace period for return time is.”

• The room and staff were fantastic.
• Work was still going on but not really an issue.

“The renovations were done very well. It was very clean and attractively appointed. I don't really believe there was a bad room in the hotel. The ocean was visible from everywhere. I would recommend it to anyone.”

• Locatiion was superb.
• Hotel was in process of renovation and some areas were in disarray.

“This hotel is in a prime location in Kona. It is seaside with a great coastline, beach and views to die for.Unfortunately, the hotel, although in the process of renovation, should have begun this re-do 5 years ago.”

• Great setting.
• Didn't realize there was a parking fee.

“This hotel is working on remodeling rooms which will make it more attractive to travelers. It is in a nice setting but is some distance from most attractions (3-5 miles). We weren't aware of the $7 daily parking fee and somewhat surprised that there was one. We expect parking fees only in major urban areas.”

• Our renovated room was beautiful and the view was wonderful.
• The whole wing we were on had been renovated, but the elevator lobby on our floor had not, was very dirty.

“The Outrigger Keahou was in a quiet location of the Kona Coast - so much better than if we had stayed in the heart of Kaluia-Kona. There were many interesting historic Hawaiian relics on the hotel property, some of which were being reconstructed by professionals - two heiuas, an ancient fish pond, replica of one of the king's summer cottage, etc.”

• There was nothing we didn't like.

• Location, staff, entertainment.
• Does not have it's own beach but small public one right next door.

“Mid-size hotel but very personable. Nice open lobby. Adequate rooms and balcony. Evening torch lighting and live shows at bar/restaurant area directly over the water. Pretty grounds with tiny swimming beach next door.”

• The hotel is older but is located right on the ocean and has a nice view. The hotel appears to be completely renovated recently.
• The rooms and furnishings were almost new however the bathroom had a very poor sliding door separating the toilet from the sink area.

“Over all this is a very nice moderate hotel. It is next to a great snorkeling beach park (great for fish however not the best beach area.)”

• Staff was informative and extremely helpful to a single traveler.
• Mattress was old and no bathtub, just shower.

“I was in an older section of the hotel. The hotel was in the process of being remodeled. The lobby was spacious, clean and well decorated. I had a great time and would go back. The room was large-did not like having only a shower instead of a bathtub. The staff was helpful, gave great directions and made me feel secure. I will definitely stay there again. The location was super.”

• Best hotel in Hawaii. Nothing can compare to Outrigger.
• Hotel is showing signs of age on flooring and in rooms. Time for facelift.

“This hotel was beyond our expectations. My wife and I are on our honeymoon and have gone to Maui, Kailua Kona, Hilo, and Honolulu. This was by the best hotel that we stayed at.”

• The location in Keahou Bay was excellent, we snorkeled everyday right out our front door with sea turtles and beautiful fish.
• The carpets and paint in the hallways leading to the guest rooms were filthy, shabby dismal, at best, but not our room, thankfully.

“Location! Close to fabulous snorkeling and surfing as well as shopping and just minutes from excellent restaurants on the waterfront of Kona. We would stay here again in a minute; we just hope they fix up the hallways outside the guest rooms. They are appalling!”

• Rooms in serious need of renovation.

“We found this hotel to have very nice grounds and setting, with friendly and helpful staff, but our room was dingy and smelled of mould / mildew. The room was in serious need of a face lift. On the positive side, it was obvious that the hotel owners was aware of this, as half the hotel rooms were closed off and undergoing what appeared to be a complete renovation. Our room was in the section 'yet to be renovated'. If the renovation work brings the room quality up to the quality of the grounds, this hotel would rate 3.5 4.0 stars and be great for business and leisure travelers, (but without small children as I saw nothing obvious for small children to do nearby).”

• Convenient location close to a great snorkel beach.
• Price was a little high for the quality of the room and facilities.

“The hotel was about average for the price, nothing special, but nothing particularly wrongs either. The restaurant was overpriced, as Is typical for hotels. There Is nothing special for children except, of course, for the ocean, which Is the whole reason for being In Hawaii! Overall I would recommend the hotel, but at a lower star rating.”

• The location was convenient.
• Room cleanliness, attractiveness, value of hotel.

“The public areas of the hotel were acceptable, though outdated. Our room, however, was the worst Ive ever stayed in. At least Motel 6 is clean. Our bathroom was moldy (we wore flip flops in the shower). There were large stains on the carpet. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable.”

• Good location for swimming/snorkeling.
• Room was very tired and a little grubby.

“While the hotel was pleasant enough I was disappointed that my request for a double room could not be met (despite ringing the hotel the day before) - which meant I had to upgrade. And my upgraded room, particularly the shower, had seen better days.”

• Beautiful common areas, ample parking and nicely situated on the ocean.
• The room was very dated. Stained carpet, pealing bath tub, AC needed repair, mold in vents.

“The location and common areas are beautiful, deserving a high 3 star rating. The room, however, was at most a 2 star. The carpet was old and stained, the tub lining was constantly pealing off as you took a shower, the water going down very slow, and the vent in the bathroom was filled with mold. The AC would never reach a comfortable temperature. The restaurant was very pricy for average, buffet style food.”
