Built in the heart of picturesque Kailua-Kona town, King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel takes its name from the most prominent of Hawaii's monarchs, King Kamehameha the Great, who united the Hawaiian Islands in 1810 and who established his residence and administrative capital on the grounds of this hotel.
The quiet sheltered bay, balmy trade winds and endless days of brilliant sunshine also made the site of the hotel a favorite vacation spot for Hawaiian royalty. Images and artifacts celebrating its historically significant location can be found throughout the hotel, and are included in a daily, guided historical tour.
On the surrounding grounds stands King Kamehameha's restored Hawaiian temple, Ahu'ena Heiau, a stunning foreground for the compelling seascape that the hotel's seaside location provides. On Kamakahonu Bay, the 460-room King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel fronts the only white sandy beach in Kona.
The full-service landmark hotel is home to the world-famous annual Ironman Triathlon, and features two restaurants, swimming pool with a whirlpool spa and sauna, comprehensive meeting and banquet facilities, a Hawaiian activity center, beauty salon and the only air-conditioned shopping mall in Kona.
Each room features a private balcony with mountain, garden, partial ocean or oceanfront views and contains compact refrigerator, safe, voice mail and data port telephone, clock radio, color cable television with pay-per-view movies, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, coffee maker, full bathroom and air conditioning. Non-smoking, connecting and ADA compliant rooms are available upon request. There is ample parking, pool and whirlpool spa, saunas, more than 5,200 square feet of flexible meeting space, business center, room service, valet laundry and dry cleaning, self-service washer/dryer and two restaurants ' Kona Beach Restaurant and Billfish Bar.
King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel is also home to the best lu'au (Hawaiian feast) on the island. The lu'au is held every Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday and includes songs and dances of ancient and modern Hawaii. [less]

The staff is friendly and helpful.
Old property in need of upgrading.
“Hotel is in early stages of a renovation that will continue to end of 2009. Both public and private areas continue to be well maintained - though are obviously old and in need of refurbishing. The ocean front location in Kailua - Kona still makes this a good stop for the price.”

Staff was friendly.
Didn't like anything but the staff.
“This hotel was rundown and the rooms were dirty. I didn't feel comfortable in any way. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone. I remember when this hotel was one of the best. It is now one of the worst.”

The hotel staff was very helpful, the location was wonderful.
Some of the towers need renovation.
“Fantastic views, large corner rooms. Restaurant & bar overlooks tidal ponds. Corner room balcony was huge with lounge chairs. Walk to great restaurants & downtown Alii drive.”

Employees were great. Luau was fantastic. Good coffee.
Dirty, disgusting, smelly, broken down, a complete eyesore.
“Bathroom caulking falling off walls and tub. Guest laundry floor pealing, walls dirty. No vent. Extreme problems with mildew and mould throughout the whole hotel. Bad smell in all areas. Doors partially repaired. Slider in room would not roll to open. Not the type of establishment I expected to be doing business as using reference to King Kamehameha. Extremely disappointed. Definitely will never visit this establishment again.”
