  • View from room, staff, lovely décor.
  • Slow staff in restaurant.

“We stayed here for the second part of our honeymoon and couldn't be happier. We had a deluxe ocean room and the view was beautiful. The tower was just redone (November 2007), so everything is fresh and updated. The room is gorgeous. Lots of dark wood, shutters that section off the bathroom area from the rest of the room and dark wood shutters instead of curtains on the balcony. Lying on the bed you get nothing by ocean and the neighboring island. It's heaven. The beach is one of the best around- soft sand, not crowded. The food in the restaurant is a bit overpriced and the staff is slow, so we only dined there once. I love this place!”

  • Price, location, friendly staff.
  • Parking , meal prices.

“2nd Stay at Royal Lahaina was great both times. This time stayed in cottage yes they're dated but clean plenty of room everything in working order. Beach is great not crowded as is the case from black rock to Whalers Village parking is an issue. Wait staff great but seem to be understaffed at bar lounge area. Meals are pricey you'll do better to search around for less expensive dining options looking forward to returning in future. Would not hesitate to recommend this resort.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • The view.
  • It was outdated and quite old (scheduled to be demolished.)

“It was an old Hawaiian hotel, very outdated. We were advised that it was scheduled to be demolished for their new ownership villas. However, it was very, very clean, and suited our need for one night. We had the best ocean view, which was what made it worthwhile, it we had been given one of the rooms that had no view, It would have been disappointing.”

Cleanliness:[5] • Staff:[8] • Location:[8]

  • It was close to the beach and we could hear the waves at night.
  • Bathroom molding and faucets/sink old, bed uncomfortable.

“It was difficult to find because the name on the Hotel's sign is Lahaina Resort, not Royal Hale. We felt as if we were put in an old room needing remodeling. We hiked up 3 floors with our suitcases, no elevator.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • It is right on gorgeous Kaanapali beach, with rainbows and whales right outside our door. The view was dynamite!
  • We had 2 different nights of noisy young adults next door for 2-3 hours in the wee small hours.

“Gorgeous views, right on the best beach on Maui, convenient location, lots of whales. Tennis was $20 which was a little too high, food was good! 3-storey walk-up is a little older, but perfect and relaxing for a weekend get away!”

  • Friendly staff, nice view.
  • Our room was next to the elevator which was quite noisy.

“Nice hotel, with friendly staff, however we probably the bad room on the floor because it was next to the elevator and was noisy. A little old fashioned with no internet access, and still use the old type of keys for the doors. Had to pay $16 for parking. I have a real problem paying for parking at a hotel.”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[6] • Location:[7]

  • Swimming facilities were nice.
  • Cost of parking and overall place needed some renovation. Shower sides were peeling and needed work.

“The location was ok. The swimming facilities were the best part. Check in and check out were ok, but the cost of parking was a little stiff and the places to park were limited with a long walk back to the hotel. Would probably not stay there again.”

  • Location & Grounds
  • Run down and generally dirty. Very noisy

“You must pay but probably will not be able to find a spot. Hotel room was very warm, Hallways even hotter. Took 15 mins of standing in line behind 3 people to be checked in. Decor faded and out of date. Got to the room. Smelled fine, looked beat up and run down. This room had a shower stall. No tub. It was dirty. Towels thin and small. Ice machines didn't work. Room was very noisy. Could hear other guests coughing and walking. Housekeeping was so noisy in the halls that we couldn't sleep past 7am. I swear, it sounded like the cart was IN the room with us. I really tried to like this place but there were so many negatives. We were more than ready to checkout at 12:00. Had I booked more than a one night stay, I'd have moved to a different hotel for the next night. ”

  • Location was very good. Breakfast buffet was very good also. A little pricey 14.95, but it did include juice, tea coffee and milk.
  • Carpet was worn and had large spots on it.

“After reading reviews on this hotel we asked to stay in a cottage, which fortunately they allowed us to do. I read that the Royal Hale building was a dump and that was correct. We saw some other guest's room. Nothing has been done in that building in 40 years. The cottages were a little dated but very comfortable. We never saw the Tower building rooms which is in the same building as the lobby. I would suggest that you have your customers stay in cottages to tower. You will have much happier customers. We stayed in a garden view cottage. Ocean view would have been more. They charge extra for in room coffee and parking 16.95 a day. The beach there was beautiful, overall we were happy with the cottage.”

  • Best location.
  • The bathroom is old, need to renovate. Hard to find parking in the parking lot at night.

“We were happy with the hotel. The reception service and room service were good. However, the bathroom was very old and need to renovate. It was difficult to find parking after 1:00am. Luau and the bar service in this hotel were very good.”

“This hotel was old and dirty. The bathroom door didn't shut and the AC dripped all over the place. Most of the front desk staff were rude.”

  • It was in a great location, and was superior in quality. I loved my room. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful too.
  • The only thing I didn't care for was the parking. The stalls were very narrow. I also would've liked to have wireless internet in my room.

“I had an overall WONDERFUL experience at this resort and would definitely stay here again.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[4] • Location:[8]

  • Good location. Clean rooms.
  • Loud daily construction noise. Unhelpful, untrained, disinterested staff. Everything's very old. Needs updating.

“Good location and very clean. Currently under construction with daily jack hammering noise. Staff is not very knowledgeable, nor helpful. Hotel is very clean, though. All facilities and decor is original to the early 80's. Needs updating. No gym. No concierge. No valet. No frills. Not worth it unless you get if for cheap!”

“We were very pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the room, routine maintenance, friendliness of the staff and quality of the facilities. The hotel provided high class facilities at a low price, so we were not surprised at $1 fee for phone calls, $10 for parking and fewest offerings of TV channels of any hotel in Kaanapali. ”

Cleanliness:[1] • Location:[8]

  • location
  • the room was filthy.

“The Royal Lahaina Hotel was in a great location. Unfortunately, the property itself is quite old and dated. The hallways were really dimly-lit, the walls are dinged and marked. Carpet was sticky. My room was not much better. The louvre doors for the balcony (they are supposed to be curtains) had a thick layer of dust, so did the air vent of the air-conditioning right above the bed. In the shower, there is a thick layer of hard calcium deposit on the faucet and rust in the drain. ”

Cleanliness:[3] • Staff:[3] • Location:[8]

  • Nice clean big lobby area, hotel was not crowded
  • this hotel is old and the rooms need work, pretty pricey.

“This hotel is old but it is decent. This place is not too crowded compared to other hotels in the area. The hotel building itself needs work and the rooms need work. The water pressure here is bad, taking a shower is difficult.”
