Athens - Guards / Evzones

The change of the Guard of Evzones takes place in front of the Monument of the Unknown Soldier. Guards are traditionally dressed in "fustanella" and "tsarouhia"(a man's pleated skirt and characteristic shoes respectively dating from the 19th century) and their solemn ritual has been associated with the place for decades. Evzone means well belted and the term goes back to Homer to describe soldiers known for their fighting ability.
