Captain Phil & Mel's Bonefishing Guides
Jan 2, 2008 by Chris from Seattle, WA
Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Prompt professional service, great guide, and good boat.
  • No full-service fly shop access, best to bring some supplies.

“I spent a couple days bone fishing with Howard through Phil and Mel's. I had never bonefishes before and did not have high expectations. It was amazing and Howard was an excellent guide. I caught more fish and larger fish than I had expected. He picked me up at my hotel promptly as agreed. We got into fish right away at the first spot he took us to and just about every one after that. Howard has the perfect mix of laid-back personality and intensity when it is time to fish. I highly recommend calling them if you are on Grand Bahamas. Ask for Howard. I talked to some other hotel guests that we shared the van with over to the launch and they said their guides through Phil & Meals were good as well. Howard had some flies that I used, but it is best to bring some supplies (bonefish leader, saltwater tippet, flies, etc.).”

Bahamas Fast Ferries
Jul 22, 2007 by Bill from Kill Devil Hills, NC
Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Comfort.
  • Schedule. It only left at 8:00 am.

“We went to Spanish wells on the fast ferry and it was wonderful. The ride was smooth and the seas were rough. There is a small snack bar with sandwiches and drinks which were very good. It was a very good experience.”

Xanadu Beach
Jun 3, 2007 by Kathie from Richmond, VA
Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • The beach.
  • Staff and state of disrepair.

“We had two rooms at this resort and upon arrival on Sunday we found that the 2 BR units did not have A/C; one of the TV's did not work; and the one BR unit did not have hot water. None of the repairs were made until Tuesday afternoon, after being promised it would be attended to on Monday. A storm came through a day before we left, which took out the A/C again, the water, the elevators (we were on the 12th floor), the phones, and the Internet in the lobby. The A/C, phones, and Internet were never repaired before we departed, which made it impossible to take care of our flight arrangements before arriving at the airport. The resort, in general, has not been maintained. Paint is peeling on the exterior, walkways are missing concrete. There are so many things that need attention it would be too long to list. Some things were never repaired from the hurricane 3 years ago. Our rooms had dirty and worn furnishings and carpet, and the dishwasher did not work. The morning of our departure we heard a terrible noise around 4 AM and we no longer had water to shower before our flight home. While all of this did not make for a very pleasant stay, I would have to say that their staff was the biggest disappointment by far. They were not friendly and the attitudes of the front desk staff, in particular, was rude and gave openly displayed being annoyed that they had to deal with tourists. Do yourself a favor and skip Landau. It needs to be leveled and rebuilt, it is that bad.”

Powerboat Adventures
Apr 3, 2007 by Tara and Louise from Midlands (UK)
Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Locations.
  • Boat spray at back of the boat.

“It was the best part of our holiday. The crew was really friendly and attended every need. The island is in a gorgeous location and the reef is breathtaking. A wide range of wildlife from wild boars, sting rays, sharks, tropical fish and birds. The sting ray and shark feeding were risky as very intimate but definitely worth the experience. The trip was worth every penny. We would recommend it to anyone looking for an exciting day out.”
