Central Park

  • Beautiful park in the center

“The perfect place to do some people watching. Highlights include plenty of street performers, Central Park zoo, and The Metropolitan Museum. Get a feel for New York City if you are a tourist, but you can also go to the park to "get away" from the city if you are a local - read a book, get some sun, play some ball.”

Empire State Building
Oct 12, 2005 by JOE_A (See all reviews by JOE_A)
Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Symbol of New York
  • Long lines like any other NY tourist site

“The Empire State building offers a beautiful view of Manhattan. With the sad departure of the World Trade Center, the Empire State building symbolizes New York City. It's definitely a tourist trap, and many locals have never been to the top - but if you want to say you have done it - go when the kids are at school.”

Metropolitan Museum of Art

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Van Gogh, Degas, art form around the world.
  • Closed on Mondays

“If you have one day in New York, you have to see the Met. Absolutely amazing collection, and it is the only major donation only museum in the city. Have a drink on the roof on a nice afternoon to enjoy the sculture and great view of Central Park.”

  • A great way to see a lot of New York's best sights!
  • Can get crowded on deck, making picture taking difficult, but still well worth it!!

“For someone who has never been to New York this is a great way to see a lot all at once! The Statue of Liberty was magnificant.”

Bronx Zoo
Jun 8, 2005 by Mike from Bronx, NY

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

“Makes you forget you're in the Bronx. Especially worth going to when it has free admission, though most of really cool stuff cost extra. You can still have a good time though.”

Statue of Liberty
Jun 7, 2005 by Aaron from San Francisco, CA

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Gives you a good patriotic feeling
  • Crown and torch are closed

“The good folks at the New York Park service used to let you see a lot more of the statue before 9/11. Now, you can no longer go up in the crown because of security concerns, or at least when I was there. When I was there as a kid, you could even go inside the torch; Now that was great! Anyway, it's definitely worth seeing on any trip to New York and you should bundle it with a tour of Ellis Island, as the ferry goes to both places anyway. This trip could also boost your patriotism.”

  • Wonderful exhibits. Animals are often in their own environment
  • Most of the special exhibits are extra $

“A wonderful day with the family. I brought my 1 year old niece and nephew, and they both loved the gorilla exhibit. The zoo has become more modern.”

Guggenheim Museum
Apr 23, 2005 by char L . from Plainfield, IL

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • The design of the building makes it worth a visit
  • This site gives the admission charge as $12 it was $15

“Some of the exhibits are different than I expected, spent a few minutes (time it took) to walk through the 'art' on the highest level. Couldn't get out of this one fast enough. Exhibits did improve in Quality as we made our way down.”

Times Square
Apr 11, 2005 by Aaron W . from San Francisco, CA

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Lots of shopping and restaurants
  • Can get crowded

“This ain't your Daddy's Times Square! No, Mayor Rudy cleaned up Times Square quite a bit during his reign as NYC mayor. Now every store from Disney to Sketchers has a flagship sopt hocking wares to the masses. Not too many really good restaurants, but I like Chevy's Tex Mex a lot. (Very fresh if you like Mexican.) The area is also much safer than it used to be, has police everywhere and is missing its' once signature porn theaters and window-washing squeegee men. You can also find lots of Broadways shows and plenty of decent hotels in the area.”

  • largest cathedral in New York

“If you think that St. Patricks is an awe-inspiring site, you should check out St. John's. It is so large that Pat's could fit inside a corner of it! Truly worth a trip to see.”
