“Air Ventures Hawaii is located at the Lihue airport commuter terminal. We had the best tour with the bubbly check in agent Donna to the narrated island tour. Definitely recommend.”

“The horses are really quite beautiful and the staff (especially our guide) was great. However, there were too many inexperienced riders with only one guide and there are no trails (you ride across wide fields and through gates in the fences). That's a recipe for a horseback free-for-all with novices so be careful! They allowed a lady to ride even though she totally vaulted over the horse when she was trying to get on. Besides that, the hike to the waterfall is not minor event (steep trails and climbing involved) and the aforementioned lady wanted to be picked up and brought back to the stables instead of hiking back. I didn't blame her - she looked close to heat exhaustion. If you are a moderately experienced rider, suggest you skip the waterfall excursion or arrange for a private ride.”

“I attended the Luau back in 2000 and it was wonderful, a very traditional style show. We attended again 2006 and it has changed. If I wanted to attend a Luau like this, I would go visit the island of Honolulu. Kauai is more about traditional and Aloha spirit. The Drums of Paradise Luau was the best luau. Now I beg to differ.”

“Took the self-guided tour ($10) late in the afternoon (last entry is at 4pm). You start in the cultivated Taro ponds, and work your way up the hill through sugar cane to various ferns, tropical trees, and wind up at a scenic overlook with views of the mountains and the shoreline. As you descend on the other side of the hill, you overlook the taro ponds and walk through various landscaped areas. Well worth an hour and a half - if you can, time your visit to watch the sun set at nearby Ke'e beach after you tour the garden.”

“There are two gardens at this NTBG site: Allerton Gardens and McBryde Gardens. On this visit, we toured McBryde, where you take a one-mile walk through a variety of gardens, including a Palm Garden, a Spice Garden, Canoe Garden (featuring plants brought to Hawaii by the original Polynesian settlers). Each of the gardens has a guide providing details about the numbered plants you'll find along the paths. The bamboo bridge is one of many great places for photos.”

“Take the time to drive Waimea Canyon Road from Waimea Town all the way up to Koke'e park at the head of the canyon. Stop at every pull off, as the views change with every turn in the canyon. You will see waterfalls across the canyon”

“One of the best place on Kaua'i to see whales, native birds (we saw a nesting pair of Albatross, Wedge-tailed shearwaters, Red-footed Boobies, Nene (Hawaiian Goose), and more that I didn't keep track of. During the winter, you can often see whales spouting within a few hundred yards of the shoreline. When we visited, one of the staff members spent quite a bit of time telling us about the habits of the various birds and whales that we were watching. It can get quite windy, advise a windbreaker or at least long sleeves. Although the base of the historical lighthouse is open, you can't climb the stairs inside.”
