Captain John's Harbour Boat Restaurant

• Food didn't kill me.
• Poor service, bad food, ugly atmosphere, expensive.

“I live in Toronto and can tell you that locals know enough not to eat at Captain John's. The place stays afloat by serving tasteless meals to bus loads of out of town tourists. Also there are no other restaurants in this area so nearby hotel guests often make the mistake of eating here. Maybe Capt. John's was good in the 80's but this place is bad today. Food is on par to that served at my grandma's old age home overcooked veg, frozen fish and uninspired cooking. Give this floating disaster a wide berth.”

“I love hockey and decided to take my kids to the hockey hall of fame because they play! Also, because the wings won the cup. nice place and we enjoyed it! Great.”

• Something for everyone. The horse building.
• Food is pricey, but there is lots to choose from.

“It is a great value for your money. There is something for everyone young or a little older. There are free shows. It does not have to cost a lot its up to you. We always have a great time every year.”

• Uniquely memorable and enjoyable dining experience.
• Poor reviews almost talked me out of going.

“I've always been intrigued by the floating restaurant at the foot of Yonge Street in Toronto and finally had an occasion to go there, my wife took me for my birthday dinner. We arrived without a reservation and dressed casually, and were seated immediately by our courteous waiter. Captain John greeted us at our table and took us for a tour of the old luxury cruise liner as we waited for our meal. In addition to the beautiful main dining room, there are also two private banquet halls. The larger Dubrovnik Room is very classy and perfect for a wedding or other reception of 200 people, the smaller Captains Quarters is more informal but still very classy for a get together of under 100 guests. Throughout the ship are old fashioned nautical items and some beautiful wood inlaid murals from Yugoslavia. This restaurant doubles as a museum for those with interests in this areas.The meal was excellent, 2 whole lobsters, half a dozen crab legs, oysters, mussels, fish fillets - more than a dinner for two it could have fed four nicely! It was very good. The dessert tray was too tempting to refuse and we had black forest cake with a rich coffee. Capt. John visited our table again to offer us refills. All in all it was a very enjoyable and memorable dining experience. I'm not sure why it has received anything less than glowing reviews. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a special occasion dining experience, tourists and Torontonians alike. This is a true historic Toronto landmark that deserves your business. Good meals come and go but it's rare to find a restaurant that will leave you with such a lasting memory. Treat yourself.”

Toronto Pearson International Airport

• Food prices are excellent; it's clean and well-maintained throughout.
• It's drab. Nothing sets it apart from any other airport. Elevators/washrooms can be hard to find.

“As airports go, Pearson's pretty good. While there could be more information screens, the staff is polite and knows their stuff, and I found the layout more or less intuitive. The one bump in the road was the necessity to take a shuttle bus to an in-field terminal, but I understand that's been phased out by the new main terminal. Within the parking garage, the elevators are in the logical places, but once you're inside the terminal, they can be difficult to find; if you can grab a staff member, they can point you towards the nearest one, but it's still a good idea to avoid using them if possible. There were similar problems with washrooms, at least until you cleared security. The design airport itself is par for the course: lots of glass (and light), high ceilings, and white paint. There's an interesting piece of art hung in the departures concourse, and while I was there, there was a photography exhibit in the departures check-in area, but not much else to speak of. There is admittedly a lack of entertainment once you're through the barrier; a 15-minute loop of CBC headlines airs throughout the departure gates, but that gets dull after awhile, and you'll likely want to escape from it if you're around for any length of time. There's no wireless internet as far as I know that might be different in the VIP lounges, though. The food prices on the other side of the security barrier are a blessing; in any other restaurant, you'd be paying through the nose for a cup of coffee, but the Tim Hortons on the airside half of the terminal is large, efficient (with a big seating area) and seemed to be charging more or less what you'd pay at your neighborhood joint. A warning: It's very difficult to get from Pearson to downtown Toronto. If you're traveling with no luggage or just a carry-on, the shuttle bus to the subway is an excellent bet (and a cheap one at 2.75 or so per adult, 1.50 per child), but you might be waiting as much as half an hour for the bus; that being said, the subway takes you right into the downtown without changing trains, and the PATH system connects more or less everything within the downtown core. There are airport-hotel busses at rates that seem pricier than they should be (20-25 dollars round-trip), but the busses do have to go significantly farther than you'd see in another city. Then there are the taxis and airport limousines, but that'll run you at least sixty dollars one-way. Car rentals are the standard fare and the standard rates. Park-n-Fly is another option--and a decent one if you're flying from Pearson and staying somewhere long-term but the shuttle bus to the parking lot is infrequent, the terminal stop is incredibly difficult to find, and sometimes you'll have to phone ahead to let the driver know there's someone to collect. This being said, it's also cheap.”

• Rides, food! Ha-ha.
• The cost is expensive!

“I <3 wonderland! Awesome place. The only thing that bugs me about it is the fact that the line is super long! Overall it's the best! I recommend it to everyone or all ages! Even though in like only 16 I see lots of people having fun there. That's it later! :) By the way. Season passes are a must have! They save a lot of money!”

• Great sight lines. Convenient washrooms. Easy to get around.
• The name. Should have retained SKY DOME in it.

“I attended one Blue Jays game (Jays lost) and a couple of Auto shows. Great venue! My only complaint: it will always be the Sky dome to me. Why didn't Mr. Rogers call this the Rogers Sky dome? Why did he eliminate the magical and evocative handle SKY DOME??? I mean, what kind of name is ROGERS CENTRE??? No magic in that!”

• Very informative.
• Can't go all the places I wanted to go.

“Government is never very exciting but this tour was really very good. There are tours available in English and French (of course) leaving alternately. The security checkpoint goes quickly despite them being the most thorough checkpoint I've been through to date. Our tour guide knew the answers to every question asked of her. She seemed to be very excited and proud of the workings of Parliment and that made it more so for the group. The trip up the Peace Tower was worth it and the elevator operator was very funny.

And, it's air conditioned. If you go in the late spring or summer, be aware Ottawa is very muggy. Bring water and try to visit places with good a/c. ”

“This centre was a godsend. Not only was it air conditioned but really very visible from any attraction in that area. The people are very friendly and knowledgeable. They offered to make us reservations at area attractions and pointed us in the right direction for money exchanges.”

“DON'T GO THERE!!!! It's absolutly disgusting! the food is overcooked urggghhh. they are out of everything we ordered. it's just for tourist which won't know better.”
