Hopewell Bowling Center
Mar 7, 2008 by TaVon from Hopewell

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Small and comfortable.
  • Some of the workers attitude, but it's o.k.

“I like the atmosphere! I'd prefer this place over any other bowling alley in the area. It's very comfortable and good for those who don't want to be around too many people!”

Thunder Valley Indoor Go Cart
Mar 6, 2008 by ricky from radford

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Fast carts and most of the time the racing is close.
  • Not allowed to bump, and they cut your carts off during the race.

“It's a fun place to go to race go-karts, play arcade games and more but they cut your carts back during the race so if you are catching some one most off the time they will cut it off for like 5 seconds and they then cut them back on.”

Hurricane Bowl
Dec 17, 2007 by Donna from Rural Retreat, VA

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Nothing.
  • The smell and the equipment.

“The hurricane bowl was in very poor shape. The balls and the shoes were probably as old as the building. The smell inside was horrendous. The bathrooms are in need of an update and much repair. The cigarette smoke was so thick it was hard to see let alone breathe. How this attraction received a 7.5 is beyond my belief.”

Reston National Golf Course
Dec 7, 2007 by travelgolfer

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Course layout, location.
  • Pace of play, delayed tee-times, pricey, non-golfers walking through the course. .

“Course layout is great - there are some memorable holes here. Beautiful in the fall. Not too challenging, and not too easy either. Most fairways are pretty forgiving. There is a full range (mats) and putting/chipping practice areas. I love the first hole as it's a very forgiving driving hole and a nice start to a round, esp. if you've skipped a warm up. But the course has some problems: 1 - Teatimes are rarely kept on time. It seems we're always teeing off 10-15 minutes after our teatime as the course is 'backed up'. Even on weekdays I've had my teatime pushed back. 2- Along the same vein pace of play on the weekends can be excruciatingly slow. Marshalls don't exist, or if they do, they're not speeding up play. 3 - It's a little on the pricey side. 4 - There are always people, usually riff-raff walking on the course. Reston is very public area renown for its public trails. But the golf course? They often walk right in front of you on the fairway. It's not a bad place to sneak in a round, but I wouldn't bring clients here.”

Natural Chimney Regional Park
Dec 6, 2007 by Leah from Leesburg

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3

  • Great family setting.
  • Not much else to do, but swim, camp out and look at the chimneys. This might take 1 day at most. Then you might be tired of it.

“I grew up not far from this site. It is an interesting landform and the walking trail behind it is nice. It has been at least ten years since I last went there. They have an excellent jousting tournament in the fall. I think it is the fall. I am told it is America's oldest continuously held sporting event, but questions the accuracy of this statement. They also have a nice campground and a decent pool (meaning clean enough and bathrooms are primitive) I went there often as a child and I had a blast. It is a great place to spend a weekend with your family (I think it is pet friendly). Bring bikes to ride around. Little traffic (this place isn't well known) and it is safe. Also while in the area, check out other little well-know spots such as Grand caverns in Grottoes and explore the local towns such as Old town Staunton (great for antiques) and also old town Harrisonburg. If you are looking for a place to stay and can't do the tent, then check out B&B Inn at Keezletown Road. I grew up just down the road and it is a great place to stay. Some great places to eat in Harrisonburg are: Indian American Cafe in old Downtown, Taste of Thai (I lived in Thailand for a year. Trust me this place is great!) and anyplace that is owned or operated by the endearing local Mennonites.”

Koa Kampground
Dec 6, 2007 by John from Pulaski, VA

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Well kept grounds. Picked up you trash for you.
  • Pricey, uninterested staff.

“Campground was clean and owner was courteous. Front desk girl was not very friendly and borderline rude. When asking for small favors, she seemed uninterested and would not help. A little pricey for "out of season". No access to game room, apparently not wanting to heat the building. Would look elsewhere before staying there again.”

Mt Vernon Multiplex Cinemas
Aug 22, 2007 by Eric from Alexandria

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6

  • Plays new movies at decent prices.
  • Not the cleanest, and has the old style seating.

“Better prices than most, but only because it is old and a little ran-down. Over all not bad, but defiantly not state of the art. Don't arrive early because there is virtually no arcade.”

Holiday Trav-L-Park
Jul 24, 2007 by Kathy from Huntington WV

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Cleanliness and lots of entertaining things to do.
  • None that I can note.

“My family has stayed at this campground for 2 years in a row now and we enjoy it more each time we stay! The price is great and there is so much to do at the campground itself that you don't really have to leave if you don't want to. They have a parking area at the beach or take the trolley either way is convenient. This is a lively place with lots of sites and sounds to take in and lots of entertainment for the campers. Our kids love this campground and so do we! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for some vacation fun! If I had to list a drawback it would be the bathroom cleaning schedule but hey just go to another of the convenient facilities. I would rather have clean facilities than have a need to complain because they weren't being cleaned.”

Busch Gardens-Williamsburg
Jul 23, 2007 by Gabriella

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Really good rides.
  • There is nothing, it is the best park I have ever been too.

“This is the best place ever. I used to live in CA and my family went to Disneyland and California adventure. Those places are nowhere near as fun as Busch Gardens. I now live 1 hour away and I love it there. They have 5 roller coasters; one just opened in the spring called the griffon, it is alright but the 205 feet drop is the best part. The food there is really good but kind of pricey but it is way worth it. There is a lot of stuff for little kids too.”

Hulls Drive In Theatre
Jun 30, 2007 by Marilyn from Lynchburg

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • The up to date movies.
  • Restrooms lines were long. Need more restrooms.

“It was a wonderful night. It took me and my boyfriend back into time, when a night out at the drive in was a great way to date. The movies are up to date and the drive in neat, clean and well kept. This is the kind of thing that today's busy society needs to relax a little. Great night under the stars and yes we did watch the movies, with a little kiss and hug at the in between break time. Great way to date or just bring back a little of that old magic to a relationship. Thanks so much for keeping this drive in open...”

Holiday Bowl
Jun 26, 2007 by Colleen

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Great prices kids had a great time.
  • Smokey.

“The kids had a good time, but at what bowling alley wouldn't they. It was Smokey, and they did not offer toddler shoes like most alleys do. My youngest was a little disappointed with that. The people were nice and the prices were cheaper than most in the area. As long as you can get past the smoke and "bowling alley" clientele it is a fine family afternoon out. I would say with the amount of beer being drunk and what looked like "regular" groupies the evenings may get a little interesting.”

Shenandoah Shakespeare Black Friars
Jun 23, 2007 by Will from Falls Church, VA

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Beautiful experience, fun, interactive.
  • I didn't know it was there before.

“Wow! What a pleasant surprise. I was in Staunton on a little tour, as I went to college in Lexington and loved the area. I came across this gem and enjoyed a matinee performance. The interior of the theatre was all Virginia oak, and I was told by one of the actors that it was an exact replica of the black friars in London. I always thought the globe theatre was the only one Shakespeare used, I didn't know that black friars was an indoor theatre for winter performances. The acting was superb and offered a very unique experience. During the show, there were Natural "breaks" where actors would come out and sing short songs, etc. You could also get a beer and enjoy it at your seat. What is confusing is that their Name is the American Shakespeare center. You will see signs in town for it and parking.”

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Great park, easy access, reasonable rates.
  • Not too much else in the area, unless you travel to Richmond.

“King's dominion is a wonderful park, with a good variety of rides. The coasters are unique and the park staff is friendly and helpful. This park's admission is a bargain compared to other larger parks, yet has the same great features and qualities. My family has visited 3 times in the past and is planning another trip for mid-June this year.”

Colonial Williamsburg
Dec 16, 2006 by Dana from Cypress

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • The authenticity.
  • I assumed that staying in a motel off-site would be cheaper. I was wrong. They have inexpensive accommodations on the property which is much more convenient.

“Colonial Williamsburg is a place you'll never forget. An entire colonial town has been restored to the way it was when Thomas Jefferson and George Washington walked its streets. You not only get a feel for our country's founding here, but also what life was like. You can visit the town's cooper, wig maker, silversmith, cobbler, printer, wheelwright, dressmaker, blacksmith - the whole nine yards. Also well worth a visit, not too far away, in orange, Virginia, is Montpelier - home of jams and dolly Madison. It is being restored to the way it was when the Madison¿s lived there, and they have special "hard hat" tours so you can see the restoration process up close. This is the last of the founders' homes to be restored - a unique and fascinating experience to see.”

Front Royal Koa Camp Grounds

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Nothing.
  • Everything.

“Front Royal Campground passes itself off as a KOA in a subtle manner that is not easily picked up on until it's too late. It's not a KOA and hasn't been for several years. The place is run down, the staff and management are incredibly rude and unprofessional. Communication is a challenge. Absolutely no customer service. Rules are made up on the fly (especially concerning cancellation fees) - don't give out your credit card number as you will get charged for the entire stay. I do not recommend this campground at all!”

Holiday Trav-L-Park
Sep 7, 2006 by Louise

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Proximity to beach, bike path.
  • Very poor management, unresponsive staff, extreme noise late into night, dirty bathhouses.

“Our group of 4 adults and 2 children were in Va Beach so that 3 of the adults could participate in a half marathon being held there. This campground provided what we thought was a reasonably priced alternative to the oceanfront hotels associated with the race. However, the price quickly went up with the addition fee for any more than 2 people per site and an additional fee to have 2 cars on the site. The biggest problem with this campground is the intolerable noise at night that goes on until 11:00pm. It is impossible to ignore this when you are camping in a tent. Our first night there, we were unable to carry on a conversation at our campsite because of the DJ performing at a pavilion directly adjacent to our site. We had to put the children to sleep in the car to try and drown out some of the noise that was keeping them awake. When we called the office to ask that it be stopped, they said that it would "only" go on until 10:30 and it was our responsibility to check the activity sheet for the night. The activity sheet made no mention of music at that pavilion that night. The following night was much the same, despite the fact that everyone in the campground who was running in the race needed to be up at 5:00am. The third night was a repeat of the previous two. When we registered a formal complaint, we were told that they would be willing to refund one night's stay. However, when we checked out, they had not done this and the person at the desk stated that she was not authorized to do so and we would have to talk to a manager, who was not present. Five days later, we have left 6 messages for that manager, and have not received a return call or refund to date. One other recurrent problem was the fact that the bathrooms were closed for cleaning every morning from about 8:30-10:00, which seems like an odd time since there were lines of campers waiting to take showers, etc. The location of this campground is great and may be OK for those with RVs who can close their windows and doors to the noises outside. For the price we ended up paying, we could have stayed at Disney World.”

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6

  • Beer.
  • Hangover.

“I give them a six. There prices for open bowling, shoe rental and concessions are the best out of three houses in the valley. BUT!, they don't recognize there scratch bowlers enough. And sometimes they may, but other times they will not. A very political house. If they don't favor you, you will not be recognized for "big accomplishments". They are just about open bowling and shoe rental. That is the problem with centers today. The proprietor has totally lost touch. BOOOOOOO to them! Great place to drink beer and have a good time, and I really shouldn't say that because that supports there very narrow way of thinking.”

  • The course is very pleasing to the eye.
  • The people, all of them, from the employees to the players.

“This course is very nice landscape wise but if you want to go out and enjoy a relaxing round of golf then don't go here. It is filled with rich snobby people from Reston and there was may be one friendly person working there. My idea of golf is to take your time and hit your ball the way you want and enjoy the scenery. If you love speed golf and want to get in 18 holes in 2 1/2 hours. If golf is a great fun game to you then run. If you are an over serious this is the place for you. Beginners just go somewhere else.”
