Balloon Museum
Jul 17, 2008 by Dan from Minneapolis

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • It was a world class exhibition when it was still here.
  • The owner proprietors were not always amicable to the public.

“Dude, it wasn't there. The two guys that owned it, moved it. The building is now used for theatrical productions.”

Badlands Circle 10 Campground
Apr 16, 2008 by Mike from Rockford IL

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Cheap!
  • Kind of run down.

“Each time I have headed west since 1990, I have stayed at this campground. I like it for a lot of reasons, but some are: close to I-90, close to badlands, just a great central spot even about 20 miles from wall! Last time we stayed in the motel and ate at the restaurant. I highly recommend this place!”

National Music Museum

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Helpful staff.
  • To find parking was difficult.

“Wow, I had no idea there was something like this in South Dakota. The staff was so helpful getting me a audio tour so I could hear the antique instruments as well as look at them. I loved the American acoustic guitars and the Stradivari Violin. The Gamelan from Jaba was amazing too.”

Badlands Circle 10 Campground
Dec 16, 2007 by Amy & Steve from Oshkosh

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Location and quiet.
  • Not very clean.

“We stayed in the camping cabins. It was not very clean. The beds were not the most comfortable. The out house near by had no roof and there were old beer bottles inside. However, the other washroom was nice but it was a bit of a walk. The pool was cold and there were many mosquitoes. The children did like the horses though. It was an alright stay for just an overnight and the price was alright for a large family. .”

Badlands Circle 10 Campground
Jun 16, 2007 by Randy and Kathy Tyner from Montgomery IL

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Caramel rolls and cakes are great.
  • Wished the pool was heated a bit.

“Don't look for the peacock, it isn't there anymore but we had a very relaxing time. Excellent food and we were there 18 years ago with our kids and the motel wasn't there. What a difference. We stayed in the motel and it was great. The owners were very accommodating bringing us a fridge, coffee pot, and microwave. Service was great. The rooms were very clean and the campgrounds were just peaceful and relaxing. Thanks and would like to go again soon.”

Big Pine Campground
Jun 14, 2007 by Daniel

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Young man that cleans out the fire pit was friendly to children.

“The sites were extremely close together. No privacy at all. We kept our blinds closed because of neighbors staring back at us. Fire pits are very small and close to the other campers (possible hazard). No privacy while sitting at your fire. You can hear your neighbor's conversations. We knew what our neighbors were planning for the next days outing. The playground needed to be updated. The dumpsite is not level and slanted toward the front of the camper (impossible to completely empty tanks). The female owner was very rude in front of young children. Overcharging was another thing. They should be charging $12-15.00 a night. We camp a lot and this was the first time we have ever left a campground early because of conditions. If you want to enjoy south Dakotas's natural beauty do not stay at this campground. We recommend passing this campground up. There looks to be a nice koa campground down the road. One good thing, there is a teenage boy that works there; he did a great job on keeping the fire pits clean. Great friendly kid. If you have any questions I will be glad to answer them.”

Happy Holiday
Nov 1, 2006 by Carol

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Pretty good access for 40' RV.
  • Extremely Rude Attendants.

“We arrived in the RV park at 2:30PM in mid-October and the office was closed but instructions for finding a winterized site (meaning water available) were posted along with instructions to complete a registration form but none were available. We made our site selection, I thought according to the site map for winterized sites, put out our slide-out, and set jacks, put up TV antenna only to find our site had no water. That night when I went to pay I told the attendant there was no water and was rather sharply told I had made a mistake in reading the map. I asked the attendant to look at the map and she said someone else had marked the winterized sites. Also I said I hadn't been able to connect to the Wi-Fi and was told it was being rebooted. I offered to pay but was told since I wasn't happy she wouldn't take my money. Next day we were gone all day sight seeing and when we returned late found a scrawled note attached to the windshield telling us to pay. Early next morning I went into pay, gave our site # (to a different attendant) and was told "Oh, you're the one." One-what, I wasn't sure until I was told I had complained in front of other customers and they wanted us to leave the site by checkout at 11:00AM. We complied. I can't imagine what would have happened if I would have complained about going to 3 shower stalls before finding one without globs of hair in the drain Other than this experience we had a wonderful stay in Rapid City. It's definitely worth a visit.”

Strand Theatre
Sep 1, 2006 by Lorrie from Britton

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Small home town theater that looks great!
  • None for this small town theater.

“The theater has just went through remodeling, added new seating to the front and sides and pulled the screen back 33ft closer too the movie goers and put new wall lining in for the color of the interior to look emasculate! Concessions were remodeled and then the ceiling fans replaced! Looks sharp and every one should check it out!”

Carmike Cinemas

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Have a lot of funny movies coming in.
  • The choice of movies they bring in, because you don't bring in black movies, cause there isn't a high enough black population.

“At these movie theaters I was treated like crap. the people were not polite, concessions were the most expensive I have ever seen.”

Lazy J R V Park & Kampground
Aug 9, 2006 by Geneva from El Cajon, CA

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • We would stay there again and again.
  • Narrow sites, but this wasn't a big deal.

“Lazy J is a great place. Great location, great view and friendly folks to help out. We have a 40' RV and the sites are a little narrow, but the access is great. We had full hook-up minus cable TV. There is no cable TV, but we had plenty of movies with us to watch and we spent most of our time running' around with family. The location is ideal. It's away from busy downtown and very accessible to the Black Hills and the city. It is right next to Hwy 16, which gets busy, but not incredibly so. Safe way, restaurants, etc. are just down the road. We rented a mini-van from Black Hills Car Rental (aka Rent a Wreck) and they delivered and picked up the vehicle. Awesome service. There a laundromat as well. We arrived the week before the Sturgis Motorcyle Rally started, but the influx of motorcyclists already started. By the time we had left it was a packed RV park and folks waiting for us to pull-out so they could pull-in. The price wasn't too bad - $360.00 (7 days) for the week. You might find something for less, but the convenience of location and services is worth the price.”

Badlands Circle 10 Campground
May 14, 2006 by Paul & Linda Holden from Cheltenham, MD

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Great owners, cafe and facilities.
  • Its the Badlands - what more can you say.

“We enjoyed the location, facilities and the owners so much that we changed our return route so that we could stay there again. While the terrain is arid (making the grounds likewise) the campsites and facilities were very nice and well maintained. Do NOT miss the cafe! Try the "Indian taco" and all the desserts. The sticky buns in the morning are to die for. Don't miss the peacocks. We really did not want to leave and return east.

You will be right at the entrance to the Badlands where you can eat dinner and then catch the sunset over the formations. Perfect location. Or, see the sunrise and then come back for breakfast.”
