Lakewood Campgrounds
Oct 13, 2009 by John from Fayetteville, NC

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • The two pools and all of the ocean beachfront.
  • Kids are not allowed into the hot tub until age 13.

“We have stayed in three of the oceanfront camp grounds in Myrtle Beach and this is the premier one. It isn't the largest -- the largest is too densely populated and crowded, especially in the summer but it has every amenity we ever wanted. The beach is never too crowded. We camped for years, but the last few years we have stayed in their Villas. If you stay in a Villa, the kitchen will be pretty Spartan when it comes to pots & pans and utensils. Bring any non-basic items you use all the time, there won't be a Pasta grabber. Also, make sure the kitchen has all of the items it is supposed to - they will bring them to you if any are missing. Not all Villas are the same because some owners have added features. We stayed in because it had a dishwasher and a covered porch. You can read the descriptions on the camp ground's website for each individual Villa rental. The Seascape Villas have a gate to Business 17 right there. During the summer that is a nice feature, it is surprising how much time it can take to navigate out of the campground when the bikes and golf carts are out in force.”

Southgate Bowling Center
Aug 23, 2009 by Parent from Sumter, SC

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Nothing positive.
  • Horrible experience.

“I took my daughter and some friends to bowl last night and will never take them there again! With in 15 minutes we left after spending a lot of money on bowling. The place was packed and some guys were harassing the girls in the group. A fight broke out between some other kids and police swarmed in. I would not recommend this place for anyone! Too many kids with no supervision!”

Possum Trot Golf Club

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • I got my wallet back.
  • Watch your wallet at all times!

“Golfers be aware! The course was in good condition at most! Shame on me for forgetting my wallet after my round and bringing the cart to the staff at the cart drop off. Shame on Possum Trot and it's bottom dwelling staff for removing the money from my wallet and kindly returning it to me.”

Rocks Pond Campground
Jul 18, 2009 by Mike from South Carolina

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Nothing.
  • Cleanliness.

“The rental unit was filthy when we rented the unit. There was no TV service what so ever because they had not added the converters. The overall facilities were in need of cleaning and repair. As for the cleaning deposit they should not charge this as the units are not cleaned and they will not return your security deposit if you leave the facility without it. They will tell you they have no one to inspect the rental at that time and will mail you your money. You will never see your money.”

Rocks Pond Campground
Jun 29, 2009 by Alisha from Charleston, SC

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3

  • Fishing and riding bikes with the family.
  • Disappointed with cleanliness of rental and the time it takes to receive your deposit back.

“Make sure to take cleaner with you if you stay in a rental. Also, I stayed at the beginning of the month and was told that my deposit would be sent out 10 days after my last day. I called after 2 weeks (business days) and was told that the refund checks were being written that day and would be in the mail that day. Another week has passed and this week makes it a month since we stayed there and I still haven't received my deposit back yet. Everything was left in place and cleaned as it was supposed to be as well and nothing was damaged so no reason why I still should not have received my deposit a month after I stayed there.”

Patriots Point Links
May 10, 2009 by Yatemon Gray from Inman, SC

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Lots and lots of room in each campsite.
  • Entrance road was a little rough. It helps to keep speed down.

“The campground was back from the road. You don't hear highway noises. I have camped there several times in the past. Have suggested to others.”

Fishy Business Aquariums
Apr 7, 2009 by Lee from Columbia

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Friendly staff, large fish selection, great prices.
  • All fish aren't treated properly, aquatic plants look bad.

“My husband and I frequent this shop often and most of the time, our experiences are good. This fish shop could use improvements though.1 being, taking better care of the bettas. You would think a shop dedicated to the fish hobby would know how to properly take care of all of the fish they carry, yet they still buy in to the myth that bettas can be homed in tiny deathtrap bowls or donut shaped things. Also, their aquatic plants selection and general health needs to be greatly improved. They could get so much business if they took the time to properly set up their planted displays. Show customers how lush a properly taken care of planted tank can look. Even with these complaints, this is a great shop. The staff is super friendly and will help you with whatever you need. Some info they've given us has been a bit iffy, but overall, they're great.”

Boone Hall Plantation Inc
Apr 4, 2009 by Joe from Lexington, Sc

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5

  • Lots of history about the grounds.
  • Horrid road and hot drinks.

“Visited on 3 April 2009. The gate man had a bad attitude. The road was almost impassable due to either rains or poor road maintenance by the owner. One of the staff drove down the road from the house dragging a pipe to smooth the road surface. Hope they grade/ repair this horrid road before the season picks up. House and ground were nice. The small snack shack was well stocked with items, but neither of the drink coolers were working. All of the drinks were hot! The sales person was on her laptop and could care less as to the drink cooler not working. Hope the owner gets this place fixed before the tourists show up. All in all the plantation is a good place to spend some time and money.”

Magnolia Plantations & Gardens
Mar 13, 2009 by Chris from Atlanta

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Great place to go if the weather is pretty.
  • About 40 minutes from Charleston.

“If you like history and/or gardens, this place has a lot to offer. We visited on a beautiful day. Interesting house filled with antiques and quilts that take your breath away. The house is a bit of a hodge-podge of styles. Many original outbuildings, also a bit of a zoo with ponies, etc. Huge, really huge gardens next to the river. The day we went the camellias were putting on quite a show. There are also some restored slave cabins and a few other acknowledgments of black history. Large gift shop with more than the usual offerings.”

Crowfield Golf & Country Club
Jan 26, 2009 by KC Jones from Seattle WA

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • The basic design is great - the staff is wonderful.
  • Unjustified, overly expensive fees and below average greens.

“The major complaint is the cost. I must say, and quite gladly, that the staff in the pro-shop are definitely true Southern folks. Friendly, out-going and helpful. The basis design of the course from the playability and game perspective, is really a good design - it does make you think about almost every shot.”

Shelter Cove Marina
Oct 24, 2008 by Will from Beaufort

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2

  • Desk clerk, good restaurants.
  • Rude staff was not willing to help at all. I will never go there again.

“Very far from the Atlantic. 40 minutes spent at idle speed getting to harbor entrance. Attempted to hail the harbormaster repeatedly on Channel 16. No response. I was left to dock my vessel myself because the harbormaster would not respond to my calls for assistance from a dockhand. Just as I hooked up my shore power, an employee informed me that they had changed my dock assignment. Not a big deal, I am pretty easy-going. I did get to my new slip with the assistance of a courteous dockhand. But then he realized I was assigned to a slip with 30amp power and I need 50amp. Finally, found a suitable slip. Went into the ship's store to pay and had to wait on a staff member to finish telling a fishing story to one of his friends. Other employees were to busy eating to help. I politely asked why I wasn't answered when I hailed the harbormaster on Channel 16. They look at the radio and the volume is turned off! What a joke. After a rude lady ran my Amax for the stay, I asked to speak with the harbormaster. He had left for the day at 2:00pm. I did enjoy my time on the boat. Met some great fellow boaters and some liveaboards. They too were not impressed with the staff. But the restaurants and beauty are what keeps them around. This place is very pricey, service is non-existent, and not a place that I will spend my money in the future. Hope this review helps my fellow mariners.”

Bay Tree Golf Plantation
Aug 24, 2008 by Allen from New Windsor

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3

  • Location and price.
  • Condition of grounds and rental units.

“Just got back this morning and I have to say the place is going down hill quickly. We have been going here since 1994 and the last two stays have found, not only the condos, but the complex in general not being kept like it once was. The golf courses are closed and weed filled. The ponds in the center of the complex are overgrown and almost drained (drought?). The condo we stayed in was in need of a lot of work from simple things like working light bulbs to new carpeting and comforters on the beds (stained and nasty).”

Apache Pier & Fmly Campground
Jul 27, 2008 by Barbara from Ocala Fla

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6

  • The Pier.
  • Showers/restrooms.

“We are big on restrooms and showers and the last time we were at Apache they were awful. They have not updated them and the RV area down by the water is too crowded. We like Apache for the fishing pier but have decided that we will try another campground in the future. Myrtle Beach Travel Park is large too but the restrooms/showers are immaculate.”

Shipyard Golf Club
Jun 3, 2008 by Brent from Atlanta

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Alligators in ponds!
  • Overbooked. Pathetic employees who didn't know anything!

“This was the worst golfing experience that my brother and I have ever had while playing a round of golf. We arrived there at 8:50 for a tee time of 9:16 a.m. We did not tee off until almost 10 a.m. literally. They overbooked themselves by dozens. The starter, check in person and others did not have a clue what to do. We had to be paired with others to get enough people off together at one time. Each hole we come to you still have to wait at least 10 minutes to tee off to let all the others in front of you get out of the way. I mean come on. This is golf! It is supposed to be fun and relaxing, not stressful. We had to be somewhere at 1 p.m. that afternoon and could only play 9 holes. That right there is bad business etiquette. They told me it was our loss. It was not our loss, it in fact was there fault. You have a tee time to go off at that specific time, not whenever they feel like letting you go off. I do not recommend this course to anyone, whether you are an avoid golfer or just want to play for fun. I urge you to boycott this course and make them learn that no one wants to be treated like the scum of the earth like we were treated. And by the way, they claimed their computers were down when in fact I saw others checking people in on computers.”

Middleton Place Foundation
Mar 12, 2008 by Lisa from Kentucky

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • The gardens are exceptional.
  • The prices seem incredibly high.

“The gardens at Middleton Place are incredibly beautiful and very extensive. There is definitely a lot to see, even for someone (like me) who is not that knowledgeable about plants and gardens. The house museum was pretty good, but you should know that it is not the original home. For the price of admission, I wouldn't recommend it over some of the other homes in Charleston.”

Koa Kampground
Sep 5, 2007 by Jacob from NC

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Campground was spacious. Campers were not on top of each other.
  • Nasty.

“The campground itself was fairly nice. The bathrooms that were at the pool house were extremely nasty. Spiders and bugs crawling everywhere. The cabin that we rented has spacious. But the first night a lizard was in the cabin. The door did not shut very good and left a gap at the bottom. The lizard was not bad but there are worse crawling things that could have gotten in. The neighbor cabin had two dogs that continuously barked all day. The owner left in the morning and did not return until late that evening. We tried relaxing and to take a nap, impossible.”

Rocks Pond Campground
Sep 4, 2007 by Mike from Winston Salem

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2

  • Good fishing.
  • Cabin/baot filthy and Owner dishonest.

“Filthy rental cabin (cream). Worst pontoon I ever rented; bent prop, undersized motor, filthy, poor fish/depth finder. The owner tried to charge me $90 for a new prop. It was bent when I went out, I hit something and bent it more and owner felt I should buy him a brand new one because he did not notice who had bent the prop the first time, and no one was charged for the damaged prop he sent me out with. Owner said boats are cleaned every time, worker said they are never cleaned, and they are for fishing.”

Apache Pier & Fmly Campground
Sep 1, 2007 by William & TAMMY SWEITZER from CROSSVILLE TN

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • The staff was very nice.
  • Poor camp sights.

“When we arrived our site was not ready, a tent camper was on it; there was cigarette butts all over the site; camp site was to small; had to get up and move our truck so other campers could get by. Fireworks were being shot late at night when there was a prohibited sign stating no firearms or fireworks allowed. When it rained, the camp sight flooded, and the food at the restaurant was terrible. I had my mother and father stay at a different sight, and they were very disappointed as well. The only thing that I was pleased with is that the staff was overly nice. Will never return to this camp sight again.”

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • The history and two of the moves made there about our history.
  • There are no negatives.

“My husband and I visited bone hall plantation last year on the anniversary of the day the south left the north. I have to tell you bone hall was the best value for the money. At $14.50 per adult, they were the cheapest plantation in town. You get guided house tour, a guided garden tour, and a guided slave street and history tour! The only thing extra was the tram tour, which we went on, and loved! Erica was our tour guide; she was very informative, and so much fun! Erica truly made history come alive! We are going back this year. We loved it there.”

Boone Hall Plantation Inc

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Everything was wonderful!
  • The house is not original.

“My family and I visited Boone Hall plantation, as well as some others in the area. I have to say, Boone Hall was the best value for the money. At $14.50 per adult, they were the cheapest plantation in town, AND, included in that admission is a 20 minute play "Life in the South," the 45 minute "Exploring the Gullah Culture", as well as a guided Garden Tour, and a guided Slave Street and History tour! The only thing extra was the tram tour, which we went on, and loved! The tram was $5 for adults, and children I believe, were $3, I do know that our house guide said that kids under 6 could not ride the tram for safety (no seatbelt). The house was a bit disappointing since it was built in 1936, and you can't see the upstairs because the owners still live there, but the guide made it worth it! Erica was our tour guide, she was very informative, and so much fun! Our kids (12 & 15) didn't think they would enjoy it, but Erica truly made history come alive! We'd go back in a heartbeat!”
