Woodgate Pines Golf Club
Sep 22, 2008 by Lance from Utica, NY

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3

  • Short.
  • Over priced.

“Over priced for the local market. Very short, so short that yardage markers are at least 10 yards long. If you hit a five iron from 150 yards you will need to go down to a six or seven iron. Par three's on back nine are much shorter than the yardage markers.”

  • Fun slides.
  • Not enough bathrooms, poor signs and Rude staff.

“The rides were fun and the place was clean. The staff was so rude and unfriendly to children. On one line my 7 yr old had to go to the bathroom. We came back to join my husband and 10 yr old and they wouldn't let me join them on line. "There is no place holding here" Even though there was still a 45 min wait and they were about 5 feet away from me. I asked a young man working at a food kiosk if he sold coffee and his reply was, "Do I look like i have coffee?" When my daughter showed a little hesitation before going down a slide the attendant rolled her eyes, and shook her head, so much so that my daughter saw it and felt very embarrassed. I guess I shouldn't let these things bother my but when you are paying for a family outing it can be very disappointing. We won't be going there again..”

  • It good place to spend the day with a multitude of children. A good place to throw B-day parties.
  • On the other hand, the place did need major renovation.

“I was a former employee of kid-o-robics. It was clearly stated that children were to be watched by their parents, it was a place for kids to have fun, not to be babysat. In regards to the food being cold, the only way the food could have been cold is if you took too long to get in your room (which was announced over a loud speaker).”

Buffalo & Erie County Naval and Military Park
Jul 18, 2008 by Richard from New York City

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Great for kids and family.
  • They had construction and some areas were closed off.

“On the way back to NYC for our Toronto vacation, we decided to stop by because my son wanted to see some military ships. Everyone enjoyed the 2 hour stop and we took a lot of great pictures. The stop was easy to find. Free parking was across the street and the ships are in great condition. We did the self guided tour and my daughter also enjoy it. I definitely recommend a stop for 1-2 hours.”

Seabreeze Park

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6

  • Nice variety of rides, decent food.
  • Not enough to occupy a full day, overcrowded on weekends.

“Many of the rides are kind of tired. And there aren't that many of them. Although the Whirlwind was a nice addition. Water park water is usually cold. The food is not bad (esp. the fresh cut fries). Back in its prime, it was much better they used to have a dark ride, a fun house, a subway ride, and a more thrilling indoor scrambler than the toned-down version. They now have among others. For $20 for an all-day pass, you are much better off at Darien Lake.”

Bowl-A-Drome
Feb 16, 2008 by Casey from Malone

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Although I had to walk around barefoot, I wasn't worried because it was so clean.
  • Worst customer services I have ever experienced.

“Never write reviews, but would highly suggest if you're taking the time to read this to consider what I have to say. I have never been treated with such disrespect as I have after my first and only visit to this place. I arrived late to meet my group at this place. The first greeting I got walking in to this place was "excuse me, can't you read the sign? No shoes." I then returned to the entrance, took off my shoes, and walked around barefoot through the establishment. Upon talking to my party, I learned that they had call to confirm that open bowl was at eight. When the party of thirteen showed up at eight to get a lane, after waiting at the counter for five minutes till the manager found the time to help them, he then not only told them that it had been "changed" to ten, but then ushered them all out the door. When some of the party returned later that night (some choose to stay behind seeing as how they were treated), the manager then took up the lane next to them and watched them the entire time, which I noticed when I arrived two hours later he was still doing. I was also informed that during their time there, one of the members of our party had gotten a strike, and out of excitement accidentally spilled their drink, in which the manager made members of the party get down on their hands and knees and pick it up with napkins. I stayed for ten minutes after hearing this and seeing as the way I was treated when I walked in the door, I did not doubt that what they were saying was not far or even not the truth. However I would like to add that not all the member of the establishment was rude, and some of them actually extended some courtesy towards the group and treated us like actual paying customers. Two to be exact.”

“Went into to just grab a bite to eat and I didnt take my boots off and all these ladies started coming up to me complaining you didn't take your shoes off. I was like a wiped them off. I really felt uncomfortable taking my shoes off to eat. Yes, there was a written sign take wet shoes off, but after I made sure I wiped them off they were dry. That wasn't good enough. As I left upset a lot of the people in there were saying you should have took your boots off. Thats ok Ill eat somewhere I can keep my boots on thanks.”

Tortilleria los gemelos mexican restaurant
Jan 11, 2008 by masteroflightchick from westport

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Sofas
  • Have to pay for chips, too much sauce, and unfriendly staff.

“You have got to be kidding me with these two good reviews? Most authentic Mexican around? Hardly so! The staff was like walking zombies even though I speak Spanish. Next, I want my Mexican restaurant to serve me a nice heaping basket of chips with salsa the moment I sit down at the table. Here you have to order them for an extra $4, which they didn't tell me until I saw the check. I really wanted sangria today and was dismayed they didn't have it though I'm not going to fault them for that. The tortillas were handmade but not the best I've had. They do get kudos for being handmade in a local sea of pre-packaged chips which seem to be the norm in our area here. The salsa was very fresh but the flavors did not sing in my mouth. They were very disparate. The sofas were very good, I will give the restaurant that and the rice was fluffy and delicious. But, the entree I had was absolutely atrocious - a simple cheese enchilada platter, now how can you mess that up? I'm used to the sauce on this plate being more than is necessary. But, let's say 1 cup of sauce would be more than necessary - then this platter had 4 cups of sauce! Even after dumping it off the plate, there was so much left it completely inhibited the taste of the enchiladas. Even though no one else was in the restaurant, I had to go to the counter to ask for my check. A most unpleasant experience when that street is filled with fabulous choices!”

  • The idea of having a place where children are able to stretch-out and have a healthy good time.
  • The carpet was filthy, some of the balls needed to be replaced and the soft mats needed to be replaced as well as a result of the chewing gum that was stuck on the as well as the torn, ripped and in sanitized.

“The idea to have kids aerobics was a wonderful idea which allows children to play, exercise and interact with other children in their age range. My cousin and little brother actually had a good time despite the fact that the hot air jumping balloon was not working.”

  • If I think hard I may be able to think of one.
  • Everything from the parking lot and up.

“By far the worst experience I have ever had at a bowling center. The balls would become jammed each and every time that one was thrown down the lane. One ball became stuck and had a huge chunk taken out by the thumb hole. Went to explain to the management, if that is what you would call it, to explain to them what was going on, and it did no good. We were half way through the second game and just left because of our disappointment with the whole center.”

North Park Theatre

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Love the ceiling, the stained glass exit signs, and the ticket taker.
  • It's too perfect - someone will decide it needs restoring and wreck it!

“We love the North Park Theatre and go to see whatever the movie is, no matter what, every time we come to Buffalo (twice a year), just so that we can spend a couple of hours in this amazing old place. It is the best of Art Deco and hasn't been started up by some over-zealous restoration job. The painted ceiling is amazing and the stained glass exit signs - wow! The whole experience is enhanced by the little ticket booth at the front entrance, complete with the gentleman who always looks the part of a 1930's theatre. Here's hoping the North Park stays the same forever! See you in November, North Park!”

  • Lots of trees keep the exercise path cool in summer. Kids like watching the many ducks.
  • Parking difficult if not a local. Try the adjacent HS lot when school's out.

“Great place to walk or bike because the terrain around the stream is flat. You can see local residents getting their exercise all day long. The total distance around the stream is 1 1/2 miles. However, there is a bridge over the stream dividing the path into two unequal parts (like a figure '8"); one path is 1/2 mile and the other is 1 mile. So you can easily change the amount of exercise you get by adjusting the paths that you take. There is also a pool, miniature golf course, and tennis and basketball courses. Paid membership required to use these facilities.”

Sycamore Country Club
Aug 14, 2007 by Jim from Selkirk

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Well maintained, decent price, good greens.
  • Fairways and roughs tend to get beat up a little in the late summer.

“Sycamore is a very decent test for all golfers. It is not terribly long, but it is fairly well maintained, and it has enough variety to keep most all golfers intrigued. The front side is very flat, with minimal trouble, featuring a nice 9th hole which requires decent placement of shots, and a very tricky green. What is really interesting is the back 9, seems like all the holes except 10 and 18 are played on the side of a hill, beware of the greens on this side, they all are deceptively sloped. The finishing hole is a very nice placement hole again, similar to #9. Again, it is not a long course, but most of the holes require you to be in the right place to score well. Even the easy holes have a part to them that are tricky (#17 is a nice short downhill par 3, but the green is a nightmare!). Again, a decent course, at a relatively decent price, and because it is not near a major roadway, it doesn't usually see a ton of play, so it's in good shape.”

“We arrived on Saturday, July 14 2007. This place is good; although, you can not bring food into the main area. They do have an outside picnic ground. My kids (6 and 2) had a fairly good time. I would say my only main complaint is the bees. My son got stung by one because they are all over! They should seriously look for the hive that is somewhere in that pirate ship. Other than that it was a good day. They had free drinks and the people were fairly friendly. They even added chlorine to the wave pool which was reassuring. All in all, good day for being somewhat local and taking the kids but watch those bees!”

Hickory Hill Camping Resort
Jul 9, 2007 by Craig from South Windsor, CT

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5

  • Nice accommodations.
  • No organized activates during the day for teens.

“The campground itself is immaculate with accommodations to match. Two swimming pools compliment the grounds as do the hiking trails. As for any daily planned activities for children above the age of 6, there are not any. There is adequate staff to organize sports activities for the children but the management does not think it necessary to plan any. We rented a Lodge and were told that the bathroom window would not open. Considering that this occurred weeks before we arrived we thought it just plain lazy for the management not to fix it. The fire extinguisher was empty which was just plain wrong. Again, lack of caring on behalf of the management. This place used to be great in the past. It appears to be going down hill.”

Triple R Camping Resort
Jul 9, 2007 by Sherrie from Buffalo

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2

  • Very clean.
  • Not kid friendly, rude staff.

“We just got back from Triple R Camp Resort in Franklinville, NY. The campground was extremely clean and the bathrooms were spotless. That's where this positive review ends. We were told by a few friends who had just returned that this campground was not kid friendly. Our friends said the kids were constantly being yelled at by camp staff for riding their bikes too fast, being too loud on the playground, etc. When we got there, Laurie - not sure if she's the owner - had an attitude that she was almost put out that we were there. Upon check-in, she was almost confrontational in her tone to us. Within hours, it was quite obvious that this campground is really for older, retirement age people, who have seasonal sites. I personally witnessed Laurie yell at a child of no more than 4 because he was yelling on the playground. She said that there was no screaming at 8:40 a.m. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00. My younger daughter, who is 8, really enjoyed it here, but based on the age of the majority of people staying there, I would definitely not recommend this campground to anyone with children over the age of 9. Even though we had 4 teen girls (12 - 15) in our group, all of them were completely bored. The brochure and website lists two pools. There is actually only one pool, with a small, unheated baby pool located next to the adult pool. I have to say, the pool was clean and the water was warm. However, there were so many rules, that we really didn't enjoy sitting around and swimming. If you bring a dog, beware. Only adults are allowed to walk them. Your children are not permitted to take your dog for a walk. Trust me, if they do, they will be scolded. There is a rule for hanging towels on the pool finch to dry - that's a no, no at Triple R. There are plenty of nicer, more kid-friendly campgrounds in Western New York. Stay away from this one.”
