Sandia Casino
Aug 9, 2009 by Jeremiah from Tuscon

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6

  • Golf course.
  • Counsel Room Restaurant.

“Overall this is a nice place. I only had one bad experience, and that was in the Counsel Room Restaurant. The service was terrible. I didn't get a drink for 20 minutes. The staff was rude, and when I talked to the manager about it, she seemed like she didn't even care. I would go back to Sandia, but I will not eat in that restaurant.”

Casa Rondena Winery
Jul 25, 2009 by J Marie from Albuquerque

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Wines, tasting room and architecture.
  • A little hard to find.

“A hidden gem in the north valley, the architecture is like nothing else in Albuquerque. There is a tasting room where you can sample wines made on the grounds, and stroll through the vineyards. In the back is a patio where you can bring food and sip your wine by a lovely pond and fountain. I love to bring guests here when they come from the airport, a great way to unwind and take a slow drive down Rio Grande Blvd.”

Paa-Ko Ridge Golf Club
Apr 23, 2009 by Rick from Cedar Crest, NM

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Views and challenge level.
  • Cost.

“Best public course I have ever played. I've played Pinon Hills in Farmington, Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque, Sonoma Ranch in Las Cruces, Twin Warrior's in Bernalillo and this course beats them all hands down. I have also played in the Phoenix area and in the midwest and as far as challenge and beauty (scenery and condition of the course) this is my favorite. It is one of the most expensive courses in NM, but that's simply because it's the best.”

Silva Lanes

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Good bowling cool arcade.
  • Not the safest or most wholesome place to bring your little kids to.

“The bowling is great and the arcade is awesome but Silva Lanes has some bad customers and they tend to be a haven for ritzy activities.”

Century Rio 24
Jul 20, 2008 by Kat from Albuquerque, NM

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Clean, good location, great service, comfortable chairs.
  • Few ticket sales people, slow box office response, high cost of connections.

“I am a severely disabled woman who uses a nontraditional service animal. My service animal is a cat. Century Rio 24 asked me once, my first time attending the theatre if she was a service animal and not only did they simply resume their business but when I gave them a copy of the law in response to a consumer complaint, my cat wasn't making a sound the person just feared cats, they framed it and hung it up so that everyone could read the law. I haven't had a single issue with their customer service, nor have I had to turn into a non pleasant person just to have my legal access rights. The chairs are also exceedingly comfortable, I can make it an entire movie without agony.”

Sandia Casino
Apr 11, 2008 by Jay from Albuquerque

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5

  • Food gaming.
  • The music.

“After many years of going to Sandia Casino I will not return on the 5th of April 2008 at about 5:00 pm. I decided to go and have a cocktail and I was totally amazed at the filthy Rap music that was being played at the bar. My wife could not believe it. I asked the bartender why they were playing such vulgar music. She said that they were not there to satisfy the customers. She said that they bring there own CDs and play what they want. Any establishment that does not cater to the customer is not a place I will frequent. My days at sandia casino are over.”

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Friendly helpful people, loads of selection.
  • I couldn't afford to buy one of everything.

“It's simple; they are down to earth, genuine people with a store that provides high quality, low prices. I was overwhelmed by the amount of Native American works on display there. I have not seen any place, any better to shop. I cannot wait to visit there again.”

Holloman Bowling Center
Mar 7, 2008 by Mary from Alamogordo

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Very clean, and affordable fun.
  • All the smokers who are smoking at the entrance to the alley, since there's no smoking inside.

“This bowling alley is nice and big and most importantly its clean, and so are its bathrooms. Its rarely too crowded to get a lane, even though they have league bowling that takes 10 lanes. They are open late on the weekends, and play a good mix of music, and dim the lights and do a light show when bowling late evenings on the weekends. I think its called laser bowling or something. Its nice, and considering the town Alamogordo doesn't have a bowling alley, and the next closest is in Las Cruces or El Paso TX, this is a good way to get out be with friends, family, or even a significant other you want to get closer too. There food and drinks and like most bowling alleys its mildly pricey. A good value, and good entertainment all around, for this little town.”

Utility Shack Inc
Dec 16, 2007 by Matthew from Albuquerque, NM

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Friendly, knowledgeable staff, excellent prices, authentic jewelry.
  • Would like to see some older estate pieces included.

“My partner is Navajo and we usually take a trip to T&R Trading Post on RTE. Thanks to the utility shack I can find superb jewelry in town. The shack is a hybrid of a Native artisan gallery and a craftsperson display outlet. Display cases run the lengthy of the store, overflowing with earrings, bracelets, cuffs, necklaces, rings, and pretty much any other kind of ornament you could want. The staff can not only advise you on style, they also know all about the artists and craftspeople, their specialties, and history. A couple cases feature pieces from earlier decades, those are my favorites and Id like to see more. Jewelry is marked with "market price" and at checkout you'll be amazed to see it rung up at about half that amount. The utility shack also displays a small amount of pottery and a few cradle boards, but the jewelry is the star of the show. Minor customizations, like clasp replacement, can often be done on the spot. Phone in advance to confirm days and hours, they're not open typical retail hours.”

Sandia Casino
Oct 31, 2007 by Geri from Littleton, Colorado

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Everything on site for an all inclusive short stay. We never had to leave the premises.
  • Restaurant service was friendly, but somewhat slow.

“We spent three days at the Sandia casino and took advantage of many of its facilities. The spa is as fine as any Vegas resort or big city one. It's beautiful, surroundings are comfortable and soothing, and staff is well trained and amiable. I had a wonderful massage and manicure. Prices are reasonable. All the spa facilities are available for use for clients including hot and cool tubs, sauna, steam room, showers and relaxation area. My husband enjoyed the golf course. It's well laid out, very convenient and the view is gorgeous. The pool was great: large, warm and very clean. We ate in all of the restaurants and were pleased with the prices and the menu variety. All casino staff was friendly and helpful. We found the large non smoking areas to be clear of smoke and comfortable. We plan to return frequently.”

  • I loved looking at the extensive collection of Concho belts.
  • I had a hard time choosing what to purchase from the extensive collection of jewelry.

“The Utility Shack is the place to go for quality Native American Jewelry. The prices are competitive. The jewelry is impressive. They have a layaway plan which is helpful if you want multiple items. The people that work there leave you alone to browse but if you need help they are Johnny on the spot.”

  • Don't like the trash people leave behind.

“It's a great place to watch smallmouth bass if you are into fishing. I've actually caught and released a few here. I don't know if that's permitted, but so far I have not had any problems. This is one of my favorite places to take a nap in the shade as well.”

  • Great views, great course.
  • A little expensive for the area 79-100 riding and you want to ride.

“One of the best courses in nm, I was lucky enough to spend 8 years just out side of Albuquerque. If you get a chance to play this course take a camera and go to some of the black tees on the elevated tees, its well worth the walk.”

  • Beautiful location.
  • Horrible management and too expensive for what you get.

“Beautiful place but has a very non attentive staff and it is overpriced for the type of wine I tasted. There are far better establishments for wine in the Jemez area and up in northern New Mexico that have friendlier management and fine wines.”

Sandia Casino
Aug 25, 2006 by Maria from Taos

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3

  • Plenty of parking, free casino beverages.
  • I looked very hard, but couldn't find a single smiling staff member.

“This casino is fairly new. The slots don't pay very much, but the old-timer locals don't seem to mind it. The buffet is horrible for the price. Mostly low grade mass-produced food. They don't deserve to charge Vegas rates with such substandard quality. The entire casino is filled with smoke including the supposed "non-smoking" area. People just blew it straight into my face. If you have asthma this is not the casino to go to. Try one of the other local casinos with better ventilation.”

Carlsbad Caverns National Park
Jun 30, 2006 by George from Terre Haute, IN

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Spooky entrance. Spectacular formations. Nature's art at its best.
  • One irritable ranger balanced out a fun one. Dale should be fired.

“Early June, 2002. Probably not much different now. Unbelievably gorgeous cave. Natural Entrance route was steep and spooky and fun. Got tired of looking for a place in the big room that was not highly decorated and breathtaking. Evening bat flight was fun, because perky young ranger lady had the amphitheater audience play "Who Wants To Be A Bat Millionaire?" before the natural show began. She was really fun with the bat trivia. Kids seems to enjoy it. Bat flight was awesome. They spiral out of the great hole because they can't fly straight up, and they keep coming and coming. I guess even more can be seen in August after the summer newborns begin to fly. Irritable ranger Dale led our King's Palace tour. He should be fired. No fun. ”

Mesa Del Sol Amphitheatre
Apr 9, 2006 by Robert from Minneapolis, MN

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Everything.
  • You are in the desert: BRING WATER!

“Back in 2000 I saw the Who at the Pepsi Center in Denver. My friend from Denver had picked up tickets for the next night's performance in Albuquerque. Road trip!

At 7:30 pm the show started. My friend and I arrived about 7:00 pm. Access was easy, parking was plentiful, and the set up was fabulous. Of course, this time of year the sun sets late, and the weather was perfect!

I have been to only two other outdoor venues, in MN and WI. Mesa del Sol blows them away. The stage is incredible, cut out of existing rock formations. The bowl shape topography forms a natural amphitheatre. Reserved seating up close, and surrounding this is acres of general seating ideal for blankets and lawn chairs. Again the natural topography allows the general seating to both see and hear. After sundown this became a very casual and comfortable atmosphere.

Centermost is the concession area. Good size, with plenty of amenities (the usual t-shirts, etc, as well as food, drinks, etc). This is the only rock concert I have been to where the men's room wasn't a biohazard, which says a lot especially for an outdoor venue.

Perhaps it was the juxtaposition of the sterile Pepsi Center arena concert the night before, but the crowd AND the band were definitely in the groove. I have seen the Who seven times in four states and this was by far their most inspired performance I have seen, and I think the Amphitheatre has a lot to do with it.

Simply put, if your favorite performer is booked at Mesa del Sol, GO! Especially if you have to travel to get there. Albuquerque has an international airport, a N/S and E/W interstate right in the middle, and friendly locals. (We camped at the KOA just North of town).”

Clovis Municipal Golf Course
Apr 3, 2006 by Mike from Tatum, NM

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • The cheapest green fees you can find.
  • You will quickly realize why the green fees are so cheap.

“ The Clovis Municipal Golf Course is perfect for beginners and Senior citizens. Golf courses do not come any easier. It is built on land that is as flat as you could hope for. There are no traps or water hazards. There are a few holes with out of bounds. It was built in 1929 on a budget that had to be next to nothing. If you want a challenge go to Roswell or Ruidoso, New Mexico. If you want scenery go anywhere else this course has no positive characteristics except it does have dirt cheap green fees.”

Santa Fe National Forest

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Hiking trails
  • $5 day use fees

“Even following the unfortunate fire several years ago this public forest is well worth the short drive from Santa Fe. Awe inspiring views and geological features in the Valle Grande can be followed with fishing and/or hiking along the Jemez River. There are several excellent campgrounds and picnic areas, and far too many trails to see in a week. Plus, you can stop by the Bandelier National Monument on the way here or back.”

Century Rio 24
May 15, 2005 by Steve F . from Albuquerque

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Lots of screens, Close to trendy restaurants and easy to access.
  • Usually long lines for the week-ends, crying children are allowed in to the theaters.

“Went to see the Interpreter at the matinee to avoid the lines and crowds. The movie was out of focus on half of the screen. When I notified the very young customer relations manager that the movie was not focused I assumed that it would be taken care of. It wasn't and after the movie I spoke to another very young attendant who got on a walkie-talkie with someone to check the focus in theater 22. But the movie was over now, what good is that going to do me now. The staff was rude and unprofessional. Customer service isn't even a concept at the Century 24 theaters. My advice, wait for the movie to come out on DVD.”

  • Poor cellphone communication, but I guess this could also be a benefit.

“The camp had all the amenities my children could want at a Summer Camp. It was a wonderful experience for them and they are looking at going back each Summer. Their favorite activities were riflery, archery, and horseback riding... items not commonly found in big city areas...”
