The Summit At Grand Sierra
Sep 4, 2008 by A.A from Hollister, CA

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Cleanliness:[2] • Staff:[7] • Location:[9]

  • Nice size rooms and large beds.
  • The pool area not for kids even in the day time a lot of adult stuff going on.

“The pull out had dirty sheets on it when we checked in and though floor wasn't vacuumed the pool area is not for kids I guess there trying to make it a resort type pool area but in the day time you have young kids in there, the night time pool time is fine 8 pm over 21 that's all good but I think the day time needs to be controlled more. I would stay there again but not with kids.”

“The hotel had very dark rooms and did not care for the rooms at all. It was too much like you might be staying in a house of disrepute. Hard to get to the main entrance because of a car show in the parking lot. We needed handicap accessible and it was hard to reach. Harrah's was okay but disappointed in the quality of the rooms.”

The Summit At Grand Sierra
May 30, 2008 by Hob from Orangevale, CA

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[8]

  • Clean, modern room. Soft, cushy bed. Like the TV in the bathroom. Friendly staff.
  • The elevator. The hotel was all sold out, and the elevators could not handle the capacity. Very surprising for a luxury hotel.

“I really liked the room. It was clean and had a very nice view of the city. The decor was a bit dark. The bed was very nice and soft; I had trouble getting up in the morning. The bathroom was nice. No tub, but it had a big shower. In general the room was very pleasant to stay in. The hotel, however, needs to improve its elevators. It took forever to get on an elevator, and more frequent than not, it was usually packed and you had to wait for next one. We ended up using stairs when going down (we stayed on 23rd floor) and used the elevator in the older section of the hotel. It was ridiculous.”

Mandalay Bay Hotel Casino
May 29, 2008 by Gerald from Scottsdale

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Beautiful design.
  • Expensive, 40 minute lines for elevators to my room, poor food and high prices.

“There were tremendous lines for everything, including a 45 minute wait for the elevator going up to our room. Our room did not get made up unless we called and then it got done at about 4:00 PM or later. The food quality in every restaurant was terrible and the prices out of sight. Uncooked eggs, rubber bacon, cold dry toast, absolutely terrible. The hotel has too much of everything. The pools are so complicated as to be impossible to understand. The restaurants are spread out all over the place and none of them are good. Cocktail lounges have no servers. You need to go to the bar and get your own $10 drinks. All in all, this experience will keep my away from Vegas for a long, long time, if I ever go back. Kind of reminds me of a really bad cruise ship with very unfriendly crew and passengers.”

Luxor
Jan 21, 2008 by robert from kansas city

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6

  • Location, theme, hot tub.
  • Construction, outdated.

“Check-in, on Sunday afternoon, was a mess! I waited in a zigzag line for well over an hour & when I got to the desk, even though I was told (over the phone when planning my trip) a cashiers check was acceptable payment, it was not! They sent me (lugging my heavy suitcases across the casino) to the cashiers cage, to get cash for payment (I didn't plan to use a credit card for payment, I wish I had). I supposedly, upgraded my small spa suite, to a large spa suite & was disappointed. I expected a couch, coffee table, big TV & a view, to lounge around after a full day of site-seeing. Instead, I got a small table, with 2 wobbly chairs around it, a 27 inch TV (that was small, when viewing from the bed) & a view of "The Hotel's" air conditioners. The suite (if you can call it that) was very Spartan indeed, clean (good housekeeping daily), I loved the hot tub (very relaxing), but didn't spend very much time in my room at all, during my trip. The worst part of my stay, was having to zigzag my way through the casino, avoid the ongoing construction project (that completely closed off the center of the casino) several times a day, just to get to & from my room. After getting lost many times (inside the casino), having to ask directions from employees (who would point & say that-a-way) & retracing my steps often, due to bad signage (that diddn't take construction into account) I finally got to know my way around, by the end of my 4 night stay. The Inclinators were a hassle also! I was on the 10th floor & was not expecting a motion ride on every trip. People told me they were no big deal, believe me, they were! Having to hug the right wall at the start of the ride, then the left wall as the ride stopped, in order to keep from falling over, almost made me ill. The motion rides (excluding the inclinators) were lame & outdated. The shops had all the same stuff (if you had seen one of them, you saw them all). The Carrot Top show was way too expensive & always sold out. Even with these few problems I still had a good stay. The location, being at the far side of the strip, was great (everything except Mandalay Bay, was to the North). The valet parking was very useful & the staff very friendly (other than the lady who wouldn't accept my cashiers check). The Best part, was that the Poker Room was within sight of my inclinator. I'd finish every night with their midnight poker tourney (gobbling many free drinks) & wobble my way to my room without a problem. I chose the Luxor because I am very interested by the Egyptian theme, but I hear that they are getting rid of that, in the very near future! Glad I got to see it (at least what was left of it, half way gone) before they completely get rid of the theme.”

Rail City Casino
Nov 25, 2007 by Martha from Sparks NV

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Food is good, Keno people are friendly.
  • When it's cold outside they have air conditioner blowing.

“Their video keno & video poker machines are tight. If you have a problem with your machine you have a hard time getting help. The slot employees aren't very alert. The Keno department is always friendly and helpful. Management at the Sands should reconsider their choices of management at Rail City. You have a lot of unhappy employees. This casino is cold in the winter. They turn on the air conditioner when it's freezing outside. If they keep up their current standards, Rail City will become as dead as the Silver Club.”

Ethel M Chocolate Factory and Cactus Gardens
Oct 25, 2007 by Diana from Castle Rock CO

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • The whole atmosphere was delightful, the employees were so nice.
  • Candy not sold in Colorado

“What a wonderful place to visit. My husband and I visited Las Vegas on our anniversary. While we were standing in front of the windows in the factory watching the workers I told my husband the staff at Ethel m's were a bit taller then the wonka workers. Well, everybody watching the candy process burst out laughing and the employees on the other side of the glass wondered what we were all laughing at. It was so much fun and educational too. Of course the free samples at the end of the tour added to the whole experience. The cactus gardens were beautiful and we even saw a road runner dashing about the gardens, it was fun!”

Fremont Street Experience
Sep 17, 2007 by Carol from Melbourne, FL

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • I'm not sure there is one other than everything is cloistered in a smaller area.
  • Besides not liking the overhead light show, a lower class of people seems to patronize the area. Left us with an uneasy feeling.

“My husband and I travel 3-4 months of the year, always stopping in Las Vegas along the way. We stay at Sams town RV park. Today (9/16) we took the shuttle to downtown, specifically to see the 7:30 pm overhead light show. It was, unfortunately, one of the worst shows we could have seen. We remember the Fremont street experience when it first opened - that one we certainly enjoyed. The show we saw tonight was absolutely awful. The music - if it could be called music - was a bunch of garbage. The picture(s) that were literally flashing overhead had neither rhyme nor reason to them. At least nothing we could understand. It was so disgusting that we walked away and went into a casino. We later found out that there are a couple of different programs that are presented, but I guess we didnt get to see one of the better ones, if there is such a thing. We both agree that this was the last time we will make a trip to Fremont street/downtown Vegas.”

Luxor
Sep 10, 2007 by Paul from Goffstown NH

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Nothing.
  • Fraudulent treatment of a paying customer.

“This hotel is a rip off. I booked two rooms for two nights, one in the tower and one in the pyramid. Upon arrival, I was told that unfortunately there were no rooms in the pyramid and she would be happy to upgrade me to the tower for the other room. My wife was not happy, as she wanted our son to stay in the pyramid; after calling the front desk and being told there were no rooms in the pyramid, we grudgingly accepted it and moved on. Upon arriving home and getting the bill, there was an additional charge of $21.80 / night - an upgrade charge! I called the front desk and was told that I had signed a card agreeing to pay an upgrade charge. Nice! The front desk person shoves a piece of paper in front of my nose, smiling all the while, telling me to sign here, initial here, etc. And that's it. So, if you book a room in advance and pay for it in advance, you not only don't get the room you booked but also get the privilege of paying for it! Nice place!”

Children's Museum of Northern Nevada
Aug 1, 2007 by Jules from Hollister

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Entertaining for very little kids.
  • Seemed like a mish mash of items thrown together.

“Unless things have changed in the past few years since our initial visit to the museum, I'm sorry to say that I wasn't very impressed with the capital city's 'attempt' at putting together a Children's Museum. I used to live in Las Vegas and their CM is superb compared to what I found there. At the time we visited, my younger son was about 2, so he didn't care, but his 11 year old brother was bored to tears. I felt as if someone had trolled through town and picked up garage sale items and called it a "museum". We're due to go back soon, so I will check it out, and hope to find something better. If not, go to Sin City and see their kids' museum. It is awesome!”

Silver Queen Hotel
Jul 20, 2007 by Sharon from Oregon

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Historic hotel right in the middle of everything.
  • Housekeepers didn't do their job.

“We initially booked room 11. When we arrived we found the hotel did not open its front doors to check in until 11am. When we did check in first we were told that they did not have a reservation for us, but soon found it. They gave us 2 room keys, one to room 11, and one to room 26, reason being it was hot and room 26 has a window to help cool the room. They let us check out both rooms and decide on our own which one we wanted. Room 11 had people in the bed still-embarrassing, so we took room 26. We had also been warned by the lady downstairs that the help they had was not good. She must have been referring to the housekeepers. There is nothing worse than seeing someone else's "curly" hairs on your bed, not to mention the lump in my pillow turned out to be toilet paper-gross!! We headed out to see the sights and the 2 housekeepers, on the 3rd floor and one on the 2nd floor where talking back and forth to each other. The one on the 2nd floor apparently ran out of clean wash cloths and hollered to the one on the 3rd floor for some. The housekeeper on the third floor said she didn't have any clean items, so the one on the 2nd floor asked for scissors to cut up a clean towel to make some then. The 2nd and 3rd floors have a very neat opening at the beginning and end of the 3rd floor hallway, you can see to the floor below. The housekeeper on the 3rd floor tossed a pair of scissors to the housekeeper on the 2nd floor; I was only a foot or so away from the housekeeper on the 2nd floor. Also the common sense of the 3rd floor housekeeper was lacking as she seemed to find it ok to stack her dirty laundry in front of the stairs, so we ended up having to climb over them to get to the stairs. This truly is a great place to stay, and would rank even higher if the housekeeping staff where replaced by someone who cared about the quality of their work. Funny how presumptuous our house keeper was to leave a colorfully decorated envelope in our room to remind us about a tip. Change the sheets is the only tip she got from us.”

Bowers Mansion Museum
Jul 10, 2007 by Michael Mayes from Las Vegas

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Quiet, relaxing, beautiful; a short distance from either Carson City or Reno.
  • Can be busy and therefore a bit more hectic on weekends and holidays.

“Contrary to another reviewer's comments, the swimming pools at Bowers Mansion Park are usually open starting the first weekend after Wahoe County Schools recess for the summer through Labor Day. The park is often busy but is a wonderful spot for a picnic or simply to relax on a warm summer day. Tables and barbeques are available but are taken early on weekends. However, there is ample space on the spacious lawns for blankets and chairs, so take a cooler of drinks and sandwiches plus a cold watermelon and a good book, and you're in for a wonderful afternoon. Moderate hiking in the forest behind the mansion is also a pleasant diversion and a cooling retreat from midday heat. The mansion is quite interesting and while it cannot boast of still having its original furnishings due to the financial misfortunes of it's owner, donations of several period pieces give an excellent representation of life in the home during it's heyday; the silver strikes of the Comstock Lode. Additionally, the drive to Carson City down Franktown Road, which begins at the mansion, is as perfect a Sunday drive as one can find.”

Sierra Safari Zoo
Jun 5, 2007 by Kim from Fremont, CA

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6

  • I liked this small zoo. It had a lot of interesting animals. Lions, panthers, goats, birds, you Name it.
  • Zoo was a little difficult to find, very small sign pointing the way. The lion cages seem small for such large animals.

“I went a couple of years ago (3, I think) and enjoyed it. It's not a large zoo and really won't take much more than an hour to see everything. The staff they were very friendly and knowledgeable and answered lots of questions. I even got to pet one of the baby animals born there. They do sell soda and some candy/snacks and gifts/t-shirts in a little store at reasonable prices.”

M S Dixie Paddle
Jun 1, 2007 by Alan from Walnut Creek, CA

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2

  • Emerald bay was pretty.
  • Cheesy and small buffet with no place to sit, packed boat, no repurchased ticket pickup. Stand in long line with everyone else, etc.

“I took my parents on a belated Mother's Day cruise on Sunday, May 27th. It was a complete disaster. For a 2 hour cruise, my expectations were for a lot better than we got. It was supposed to be a buffet cruise, but since there was only enough seating for about 1/5th of the passengers (no freaking kidding!), we were forced to wait until near the end of the cruise to eat. Then when we finally did get something to eat, the lunch buffet was a cheesy-assed single table of cold cuts and bread, potato salad, fruit salad, Italian noodle salad, and a couple other items, and that was about her. There were some fairly good deserts, but the rest was mostly just cheap junk. That combined with how packed the boat was must have been like 500 people they packed on that baby, really really degraded the whole experience. It was hard to find in a tiny space you could squeeze in along the railing on one of the two upper decks, and part of the lower one. Also, I had pre-reserved my tickets with a credit card, but still had to stand in a huge line in the sun for about an hour. They have no will-call/ticket pickup. All around, a bad experience. I was so upset about how we could not sit down for a nice lunch buffet that it ruined the whole trip. Granted, this was Memorial Day weekend, and I can understand wanting to optimize profits, but the operators of the M.S. Dixie take this way too far, clearly at the expense of maintaining a decent customer experience. I think this is short-term thinking, because I for one and all in my party were so upset that I don't think they'll ever receive repeat business or positive referrals from any of us (certainly not me). Very stupid, short-term thinking. I hope they enjoyed fleecing us, because it's the last money they will see from me, and most likely at least three other people.”

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2

  • Museum.
  • Cost.

“Third visit, but poorer for it. Original Klingon Encounter ride spoiled by final "shuttle ride" not being suitably dark, the whole area was bathed in light and a lengthy delay whilst the "crew member" spent several minutes trying to get the show on the road. The intended excitement was lost for all concerned. The Backstage Tour, whilst enthusiastically presented was minimally attractive and massively overpriced. Trek fans are enthusiastic but should not be exploited to this extent.”

This place is a fine hangout for the locals and golfing beginners, but if you are in Las Vegas to visit, stay clear of this place. We didn't tee off 30 until minutes after our starting time. It was two hours and forty five minutes to complete the front nine. The rangers are no help at all as far as keeping the duffers moving. It would have been a 6 hr round had our cart not broken down at the 17th hole. It was dark been then anyway, so we just walked the rest of the way in. ”

  • Sometimes the front desk workers don't pay attention.

“This place is great! A lot of great workers, the pin chasers are constantly at work and keeping the troubles at minimum with the lanes. The front desk workers are nice and know what their talking about. Cece's Cafe is also has GREAT food!”

Mandalay Bay Hotel Casino
Sep 22, 2006 by Gail from Providence

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Clean, beautiful landscaping, pool complex, bathrooms.
  • No desk, inadequate soundproofing, at far end of Strip.

“Mandalay Bay has many good points and some not so good. First of all, we were there on for a business trade show and had to stay there. Yes the company paid for our room but I'll try to review as if we had actually paid to give an idea of how I would feel if it were my money being spent! :-) The lobby and casino are kept very clean and fresh smelling (unlike some other properties in LV where the smell of old cigarettes chokes you). Check in was quick and easy, we came during the week when it wasn't as busy. The room was OK. For the price paid ($250+) we expected the WOW factor and except for the bathroom, it just wasn't great. Basic room with no desk which is inexcusable for a hotel catering to business functions and conventions. Bedding was comfy and closets were nice and large enough. Bathroom was nice with giant tub, double sinks and separate shower. We could hear noise in the hall clearly AND our neighbor talking on his phone! The pool complex is beautiful with lovely landscaping and several options of pools, including a small lazy river. However the pool area gets crazy busy during the warmer months. Luckily they're very strict about only letting in hotel guests. Restaurants were varied and we did try the buffet and cafe (can't remember the names). Both were good, if not great and somewhat overpriced for what you get, but we've been finding it harder and harder to find good values in restaurants any longer in LV. One other problem for us was that MB is so far at one end of the Strip. Getting around to other casinos farther down can be a bit of a pain unless you have your own transportation. Would we stay there again on own? Probably not, I feel there are better values in the middle of everything. As far as recommending it to others? It really depends so much, some may love the fact that it is away from the worst of the bustle and don't care about the desk.”

Sierra Safari Zoo

  • I liked the staff and how knowledgeable they were about the animals.
  • How small the tigers enclosure were.

“I love this zoo and I tell everyone about it and how much all the staff love the animals. I also tell my friends about how the zoo runs on all donations.”

Boulder Oaks Rv Resort
Aug 27, 2006 by Steve Huffman from Hemet, CA

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • The view is spectacular!
  • The pool area is a real downer, dirty. dirty....

“Camp sites not well cared for, water lines have small pebbles in the water, smells of sewage overpowering, lots full of weeds, and not well maintained. Insects plentiful. View is nice, temperature very high and heat is such that unprotected coaches are unbearable. No stores in park, closes early (5 PM) No security. Keys to restrooms fit both men and women's Rest Room! How uncool is that? Advise traveler's to seek a better park. ”

Sam's Town Hotel Casino
Aug 13, 2006 by Brendan from Grand Blanc MI

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2

  • Location, food, casino.
  • Security Staff - Valet Services.

“Loved the casino and the hotel. Had a wonderful meal and thoroughly enjoyed our 6 hours there. We obviously did not stay at the hotel rather stayed on the strip. Reason behind the poor rating was the valet service gave our rented vehicle to another party leaving us stranded for over 2 hours at the facility. Management / Customer Service was nothing short of embarrassing - no comp, no sincerity, nothing. We were forced to miss "Splash" which they did reimburse after much arguing and fighting. I would not recommend this casino due to the lack of accountability the Security staff demonstrated. It really ruined our last night of vacation and will always carry a sour taste towards the Sams Town Casino in Vegas.”

Stratosphere Hotel Casino

  • Upgrades and service.
  • Plastic glasses.

“I have stayed here several times. I was amazed. Yes, I agree, the check-in line was somewhat long but what check-in line isn't at any casino in Vegas. During our last visit, we reserved the basic value room and received a fantastic room which included a small sitting area with sofa and TV. Another occasion, when we flew to Vegas and got married, we returned after the ceremony to find a bottle of champagne chilling in our room and it wasn't included on our bill. I've never had a problem with this hotel. I've stayed at several other casino or hotels, much more pricey, and never received the service I found here. ”

Heavenly Aerial Tram
Jul 26, 2006 by Steven from Youngstown, Ohio

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Photo ops! Views! Food, fun, drinks at the top!
  • A little pricey!

“Aerial tram truly is heavenly! What an experience. Totally enjoyed the views of Lake Tahoe during the summer. Yes, the tram does run in the summer. A little pricey but worth every penny. Spectacular views, wonderful people, everyone willing to take photos of each other. Fun at the top, over 2K feet above Lake Tahoe. Hiking will take your breath away unless you handle high altitudes.”

Fremont Street Experience
Jul 11, 2006 by Rich from Chicago

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Friendly welcoming feeling you receive.
  • Not as new and shining as the strip.

“Don't believe what they tell you. The "old" Freemont Street area is alive and well. I have a hard time getting around with a bad foot and am slow in walking. I felt at ease in the area, as most of the intersections are monitored with cameras. Cab drivers where helpful and always handy. I guess the best part is, the hotels and Casinos WANT your business and they show it. I would absolutely recommend anyone to stay and visit. I stayed at the strip hotel and shuttled to Freemont St. this time but will be staying downtown Vegas next time.”

New Frontier Hotel Casino
Jul 9, 2006 by sara from Moreno Valley Ca

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5

  • Friendly Staff.
  • Repairs not timely completed.

“The hotel was good for me because I had a small pet and no reservations. The staff was very friendly and helped me with an early check-in 1pm. The room was a smoking room and I do not smoke, but you have no choice when you have a pet. The bath tub was cracked and the sink drain was slow. The room was a nice size and for the last minute it served the purpose. The room service was good. The price was good also. I would only stay there again if I had my dog with me. The new Frontier look really nice, it's being built. Now I would stay there.”
