Shakopee Valley R V Park
Jul 26, 2007 by Sherry from Hermantown mn

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Great location.
  • Kind of too dark and shaded.

“We stayed there just one night, but it's a nice place. We didn't like the woodchips in our campsite, so next time we will ask for a grassy area. We will be back in August to take the kids to ValleyFair.”

Bluff Valley Campground Inc
Jul 24, 2007 by Carol from Blaine

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6

  • Large shady sites by the river.
  • Cost of tube rental can add up really fast. No sewer hookup.

“Great place to go tubing, although they do not run the shuttle enough and you end up waiting a lot for a ride to the beginning of the run. Only a few showers, so again another wait. Bring a bike to get around. The campsites by the river are the nicest. Very large sites everywhere. No sewer hookup so you must wait in a long line to amply on your way out. It should be nice if they offered a weekend rate to tube so that you did not have to pay $8.00 every day which can add up when you have a lot of children.”

Doyles Bowling & Lounge Inc
May 29, 2007 by Dennis from West Point, IA

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Fun, Caring Staff and Event Dedication.
  • None.

“My rating is based on the ownership and management. I was recently invited to a Birthday celebration where owner poured her heart into the celebration. She made every attempt to ensure that perfection and the pleasure and the happiness of the 80 year old Birthday Gal was paramount. If you wish to have a great time Doyles is certainly the place to go.”

Lucky Acres Campgrounds Inc
Apr 12, 2007 by Jeff from Spicer

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Sites are right on the beach, so nice with young kids. Good dock fishing.
  • Very tight quarters to maneuver in anything over 21. Trees everywhere.

“Mostly seasonal sites, with about 10 rental sites right on the beach. Outdated restroom and shower facilities, but very clean. The beach is sandy and overall pretty decent. Swimming is average for area lakes. Very strictly enforced rules by the owners association, which is great as far as we were concerned. We actually saw them with sheriffs help escort a family out, because they were being too loud and annoying for the rest of the guests.”

Greer Lake Campground
Apr 3, 2007 by Melissa from Cottage Grove, MN

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Great fishing, clean campgrounds.
  • Swimming/beach area needs to be groomed better.

“I have been going to Greer lake for 28 years. My parents were brought there by my grandparents since they were children. Many great memories have been made while camping here. Not only are the grounds always clean, but the fishing is great. The pan fish are always good size, bass fishing is fun, and catching a big northern always adds to the fun. I have recommended this campground in the past and will continue to. The only thing that could make this campground more fun would be to have the beach/swimming area groomed better for the little kids.”

El Rancho Manana, Inc
Feb 23, 2007 by Terry from Spring Lake Park

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Nice grounds.
  • Poor management.

“I had been a seasonal camper at el rancho for approx 14 years. A very unpleasant experience. He played favorites. If you weren't on his "a" list or a relative of his, you were treated poorly. I donated money to have a fish cleaning house constructed in honor of a long time camper (as many other seasonal did as well) that died. El rancho kept the money and never built the fish cleaning house. Many of us were upset by this. He never had any of the docks in at the start of each year. He nickel and dimmed everyone to death with a ton of special fees. He never settled my account (and still owes me money) when I finally left. Just a bad, bad situation all the way around. I would never recommend this campground to anyone.”

Minnesota Zephyr Limited
Nov 6, 2006 by Phil

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Food is excellent, train ride is fun!
  • Service was poor.

“The food is terrific and the train ride is fun, but bewares of some hidden charges if you go on the Minnesota Zephyr. When you are presented with your bar bill at the end of the trip, you will find a 10% gratuity already added in for the train staff. (They forget to mention this on the page of their website that discusses fares, reservations, gratuities, etc.) That 10% of your basic fare, before any beverages. The only train staff we saw was a group of four singers who walked through the cars singing 1940 songs. The last time through our car, they stopped and sang for a lady who was turning 81, completely ignoring my daughters 16th birthday. My daughter (who had requested a trip on the Zephyr as her birthday celebration) will probably never ask to go on the Zephyr again. For the four of us, that would have been another $29! Here where we had a problem. Although the food was terrific, the service was mediocre to poor. We had to ask for, and then wait a long time for, everything we needed. We even had to ask twice before my daughter could get another Coke! I mean really it doesn¿t get any simpler than pouring a Coke! And when the server brought my Boxcar (basically, a martini), he was so busy talking to a guest at another table that he spilled about half of it on the floor. Finally, we ate our dessert (cheesecake) with empty coffee cups because our server spent the last 25 minutes of the trip totaling everyone bar tab, and not checking to see if anyone needed anything. Then, about five minutes before we returned to the station, our server stopped at our table for some small talk obviously trying to salvage a good tip. We left him a $20 and I really feel that was too much. (I am from the old school that feels a server should earn the gratuity and is not just automatically entitled to one regardless of the job he/she has done). My conclusions: the food is great, the train ride is fun, the scenery is quite good, but the service is poor. The Minnesota Zephyr needs to learn more about customer care and they definitely need to give their servers a wake-up call.”

Minnesota Zephyr Limited

  • I liked the fact that entertainment in period attire is provided.
  • No pricing information available online.

“While interesting and containing a modicum of information, the site has 3 big faults. 1) No pricing information 2) No online reservation capability. 3) No information on handicap accessibility.”

Ponderosa Golf Club
Oct 4, 2006 by Andre from Fargo, ND

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Scenery/wildlife, friendly staff, working class atmosphere.
  • Dirt road from highway to course often has washboards, railroad tracks along north edge of course.

“I have been a member of this course for 3 years now and love it. The prices are reasonable, whether you purchase a membership or pay per round, and the course is beautiful. It is a 9 hole, par 36 course tucked near the Buffalo State Park (about a 30 minute drive from Fargo). What I love about playing this course is you really feel like you're getting away from the hassles and stresses of everyday life. The course is very wooded. Deer, Canadian geese, and the sound of woodpeckers are common. Just make sure you bring plenty of balls, because if you miss a fairway your ball may never be touched by human hands again. The Buffalo River runs through the course and splits the fourth hole in two. There is also a man made pond on the second hole and plenty of sand traps throughout. The course is well maintained and has the friendliest staff of any golf course I've played. And they've done a good job controlling mosquitoes in recent years. However, I would still recommend bug spray during the heart of the summer. The club house is plain but functional. The course doesn't have the snobby atmosphere that a lot of clubs have. You can wear a t-shirt and walking shorts and fit right in. ”

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Liked the neat grounds and free Wi-fi as I was on a working vacation.
  • You should have reservations on weekends.

“Minnesota Camping at it's best. In fact it's rated number one. Convenient to I-90 in SE MN. Large, level, shaded sites. Park is beautiful and immaculate. Friendly staff also. Family oriented with theme weekends, swimming, mini-golf, fun cycles, stocked fishponds, petting pens, several playgrounds, restaurant, free WI-FI, trails and more. Moderately priced. Near the Spam Museum and Gribrok so there is a lot to do in the area too. ”

State Theatre
May 16, 2005 by Peggy H . from Big Lake

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • concern about our health

“We took our granddaughter to see Dora on Sunday at the State Theatre and we had seats in Balcony 5. The show was great the seats were good but, there was a heavy white dust on everything coming from the ventilator. We ask about it and no one had an answer. We could see it floating around the seats were full of this . We are very concerned as you should be the place was filled with small children and they had an expectation of being safe.”
