La Grange Memorial Hospital
Mar 28, 2008 by Gaill Van Tuinen from Justice, IL

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • None.
  • The nurses are rude, arrogant, unhelpful and lazy.

“My mother was recently in this hospital. She was not treated nicely at all. She would ask for help and the nurse would come in and said they would be right back and would never show back up. My dad and sister did more for her than the doctors or nurses. The nurses were also very rude and would ignore her calls. She couldn't get out of the bed to go to the bathroom and she wet the bed. She called for a nurse and it took her over a half hour to come to help her out. She was very unhappy in that hospital and doesn't ever want to go back.”

Striker Lanes
Feb 20, 2008 by LM from Oak Park

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3

  • Well kept lanes.
  • Smoking throughout alleys and bar.

“Nice lanes but this establishment continues to violate the law by allowing smoking throughout the bowling alley. It is filled with second hand smoke and there is a blatant disregard for the state law. The manager apologizes but continues to not enforce the no smoking policy.”

Fiesta Lanes
Jan 2, 2008 by Chris from Pontiac

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • No smoking, reasonable prices on bowling and concessions.
  • Older, unattractive decor. .

“The fiesta bowl in Pontiac, Illinois is not the best center in the world. However, for a bowling center, it is kept clean and it has a friendly staff. The lanes are synthetic and only a couple of years old; the lanes are also oiled on a regular basis with a fairly new conditioning machine. Although the machines are old, they do perform well and the scoring system is virtually flawless. The fiesta bowl is a great place for families and kids; and it is strictly no smoking all of the time. .”

Crane Creek Golf Club
Oct 13, 2007 by Joe Adair from Bloomington IL

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Unbelievable low prices and a great golf course.
  • Rough was burned up, and hard as a rock, but hey, it was $22 so no complaints.

“Wow what a challenge. This course is a super layout, with some of the fastest greens in IL. At 7400 yards from tips, and several sets of tees, you can bite off all or more than you can chew at this track. Only one hole I didn't like and that was the par 3 #12. If you're above the whole a foot, you have no chance on this one. Kind of a goofy hole, but the other 17 are superb. Oh, and did I mention you can play all day on Mondays for $25. Best value in golf anywhere Ive ever been.”

Hide-A-Way Lake Campground
Oct 5, 2007 by Donna from Palos Hills

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3

  • Fun if you want to party without many rules.
  • A disgrace to what could be a beautiful natural spot.

“Although conveniently located in proximity to home (only 45 min. ride) and a beautiful ride to the campground, it is indeed a bit on the seedy side. I have visited this campground dozens of times because my family had a site here. The woods are filled with abandoned truck trailers and other rusted un-natural equipment. Many areas look like junkyards with old tractors and equipment. When I visited over Labor day weekend, only 1 of the 9 or so female showers worked, so long lines were your only option. If you like to party, this is the place to be. A lot of drunken people hanging out at the pool all day and falling on the dance floor of the pavilion are a way of life here. Most of the full time residents are toothless with scary demeanors, not role models for young children. The store onsite is junky, needs a major clean up as well as the recreation room.”

Crane Creek Golf Club
Aug 23, 2007 by Mark from Normal, IL

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • The course is cut out of an incredibly beautiful piece of property.
  • Gravel cart paths (a minor negative).

“What a gem! Virtually in the middle of nowhere, this course is cut out of a beautiful piece of land. Some of the most impressive driving holes, with elevated tee boxes, that you will find anywhere. The greens are fast and roll true. The bent grass fairways are wonderful. The price is so low that it is hard to believe. The clubhouse staff is incredibly friendly. They make you feel like you are part of the family. The course is not perfect mind you. There are a few rough spots around the edges. But those are minor issues. All in all, this is a very fun course to play and serves as a tough test of golf, especially from the blue and black tees. You have to try this one!”

The kids love the newborn lambs and calves in the spring. One year we were lucky enough to see a calf being born!”

Crane Creek Golf Club
Jul 24, 2007 by Brian from Decatur

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Great course-nice people.
  • No course guides.

“Awesome golf course, especially for 20 dollars with cart on a Monday. At times I couldn't believe I was in central Il. Front nine is fairly easy to score on. Back nine can eat your lunch quick. Greens were well kept and held shots. This was my first time playing the course, so I was disappointed there were no yardage books available and no hole layouts on the scorecard or tee boxes. Many blind shots, so there were a lot of surprises and my sky caddie only gave yardages to the pin, (manually mapped).”

Mercy Hospital And Medical Center
Jul 23, 2007 by Elena from Munich

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3

  • Friendly nurses.
  • Do not know where to start.

“I would not recommend anyone to go this hospital. I have visited the ASCO Annual Meeting and needed an emergency treatment. Although the Hospital is in close distance to the McCormick Place and one would think that they frequently have non-American patients, they are not prepared at all on e.g. how to handle billings for Europeans. They ask for cash deposit, for which one never receives a receipt. The costs for the medical treatment one received separately; from Miami (also these people are really not helpful). Months later my bill is still not sorted out. The email address indicated on their website is not working and if you contact them by phone there is obviously no one in charge. The only positive point was that the nurses were quite friendly. Otherwise, can not recommend this hospital at all.”

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Diamond in the rough considering the location.
  • Greens could be faster.

“Hands down, the best track and value in central Illinois and I'm not comparing it to your local mini. I'm comparing to weaver ridge, coyote creek, the rail, piper glen, the den & Illinois National. Lots of elevation change and blind shots. Something new around ever corner and over every hill. From the black or blue tee. This is a very long & tight course that puts a premium on driving. Very well maintained for the price and the people in the new clubhouse are some of the nicest anywhere.”

Chicago Trolley Company
Jun 7, 2007 by Godinez from Altamont,TN

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Great Tour Guides and overall staff.
  • Nothing.

“Now I know why they call Chicago the Windy City, because being up top a Chicago Double Decker Bus not only do you get a great view of the city but you also get a taste of the wonderful wind that Chicago is famous for and a fabulous Tour. My family and I visited Chicago during the Memorial weekend. Our tour started a the Navy Pier stop, my family and I were mesmerized by the bright colors of the Chicago Trolley bright red ticket booth and how professional the ticket agent looked and handle other customers in front of us. When we approach the ticket both the ticket agent greeted us with a big smile that sold us automatically. They were very polite and informative; they answer all of our questions and new a lot of the service that they were selling. They told us about the great gift you get with the purchase of their tour tickets; which was music to my children ears to here that they would get a free bag of the famous Garrets Popcorn and a Chocolate Hershey bar with their ticket. They also told us about their great Ethnic Tour, two tours for the price of one what a deal. There was another tour company that was next to them "Grey Line" but they looked scary and mean and instead of inviting they actually scared customers away with the "I do not want to be hear" look in their face and their unwelcoming ticket booths. Of course we went with the bright company Chicago Double Decker co. We took the Tour aboard a London Style Double Decker Bus when the bus approach the stop the driver and tour guide came down and introduce themselves to all the customers that were waiting. We felt right at home with our Tour Guide he was funny and informative. Our tour was full of Chicago history as well as Chicago comedy. The best thing is that Walt like other tour guides that work for this company really enjoyed their job which made us enjoy even more our Tour. We had lunch at the great millenniums park were we also learned that this same company Double Decker Co. Just open a new retail store where you can get all your Chicago souvenirs as well as tickets to take this great tour. If you are going to be in Chicago for more than one day I do recommend their three day pass you get a free t-shirt plus the other great gifts. Overall I truly recommend this tour company our experience was one of the best.”

“Wide open fairways, with rolling hills and many doglegs. This is a beautiful course. You better not hit into the trees or it might not be playable though. Not much water at all, which is a good thing for those that slice. Small clubhouse, but a full bar and very reasonably priced for the quality. It is in the middle of nowhere, but is not hard to find with good directions. ”

  • Liked that it was a safe environment for little ones to enjoy.
  • None.

“My friend and I took her twin 3 year old granddaughters to this museum while we were on a short vacation to white pines forest. The girls had a wonderful time playing in the child size kitchen and house. There was also a water table for which smocks were provided. It was nice enough to venture to the outside area, and I could see that in the warmer weather the children would enjoy this even more. The big outdoor attraction to the girls was the sandbox with dinosaur bones buried in it. There were so many things to do here that all cannot be mentioned. We stayed for 2 1/2 hours and the girls still were not ready to leave, but it was time to get lunch. We have already recommended it to our friends in Chicago who have younger children.”

“Kept flat on a gurney-Needed head raised. X-rays of broken upper arm were unusable to the doctor. When told I needed to go to the ladies room, I was told I could go on my way out, and that was before all the x-rays and examination. Not admitted to the hospital but told I could go to a doctor in the suburbs on Monday and this was Friday night. They never called my doctor to tell her I had broken my arm. I shudder when I simply drive past the place now. Ambulance would not take me to my hospital, said they had to take me to the nearest one that wasn't too busy. Ravenswood was out of business, and Swedish Convenient was too busy with the overload because of Ravenswood being closed. I think I would have been better treated at a Veterinarian's office. Timber Lake Golf Course
Sep 21, 2006 by Nick from Alhambra

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Variation in the two nines.
  • Front nine is a little short.

“The course is two completely different nines. The front nine is very open and relatively short, perfect for taking kids or a family. The back nine is much tighter and requires straighter shots off of the tee. The 2nd nine is considerably more difficult and the par fives are a challenge even for a scramble team. The course itself is typically in pretty good condition with the odd barren spot on the back nine. The 8th hole plays along interstate 55/70 so you can't be a slicer or affected by noise. The course also has a nice practice range with a practice green and trap.”

Aug 30, 2006 by Ernest from Enoree,SC

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3

  • Open area for animals to walk.
  • Staff attitudes, campground office hours, water, electric service, deposit request.

“Should have stayed with our first choice for the Chicago area instead of this dump--overall this campground has a lot of potential to be a great place; however, there are a lot of downfalls to this location that would suffice to say--campers beware! As said before in another review, the camp check in time is only at the convenience of the campground staff and the office hours are entirely inconvenient for those working odd shift hours as they are open 3-8pm only. The campsites are very small, and the power / meter / electric service could be improved upon due to surges throughout our stay. We also had to pay a $300 deposit when we arrived and our anxious to see if we will get it back when we leave according to the other review, this is something that alarmed us right from the beginning as we have never had to pay a deposit for a campground ever before. Not to mention the water supply here is literally the worst in the area, our pipes, sinks, shower, and toilet were completely covered in rust and scum after only two days here---we constantly clean our camper due to the filthy water, no to mention its STENCH as we bathe or wash our hands and dishes (even with water filters attached to our hose)!!! The staff is down right rude sometimes and the campsites are quite small with little to no room for parking your tow vehicle. Needless to say, we will NEVER stay here again in the DUMPIEST campground this side of Chicago!”

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Close to relatives.
  • This place is a dump.

“While camping here, our camper was vandalized at 1 am, and the security guard showed up with a beer in his hand. The management sent me a copy of their check-in sheet that said they were not responsible, call my own insurance agent. This place looks like a junk yard for unused campers, and security is a joke. The main recreation is kids of all ages driving at high speed on "golf carts", while consuming what ever is available. There is no enforcement of the curfew. We will never return to this campground, and recommend that no one stay here.”
