Pacific College

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • The helpful staff and the great way I was prepared to take my State Board exam!
  • None.

“I would highly recommend this college. I felt totally prepared to take my State Board Exam and I passed it the first time. The training is intense, but I studied and attended everyday. They also have really great tutoring if you need it. I am now enrolled in an RN Program and I feel prepared to do well there as well.”

Novato Community Hospital
Sep 24, 2008 by Monique from Tiburon

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2

  • NA.
  • Lousy service. Rude staff. Incompetent.

“My mother broke her arm and I called the ER to see how she was doing. The girl, Carol, who answered the phone was rude and rushed, and kept rushing me. I finally told her to not be rude, and she said that she wasn't trying to be. This is not the first time that I encountered very rude ER staff. My brother hurt his ankle and the intake clerk was again, very rude. Wonder if it was the same person? Considering there were only about three people in the ER that night, it took over 4 hours for my brother to be seen and discharged. They nurses all gather around their station and laugh and chit chat with the security guards, and you're lucky if you see the doctor once during your visit. The X rays take forever to get back and if you need a cup of water, get ready to wait a good 20 minutes unless, of course, a nice nurses aid comes by your way and you're fast enough to grab him. Lastly, my mother, a few years ago, was seen 4 times in 5 days for a breathing problem, and each time, the ER doctor said that it was a 'stress reaction' and discharged her quickly. Thank God, on the 5th day, the doctor who was there had the sense to take an X ray of her chest, and what do you know? She had Pneumonia! She was admitted and stayed there for 10 days. That hospital should be taken down and a new, competent staff should replace the incompetents that now work there, but fast! Go to Marin General if you can. Well worth the wait.”

Fallen Leaf Campground
Aug 21, 2008 by Tina from Camino CA

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Beautiful, close to many activities such as beaches, biking, hiking, kayaking, etc.
  • It's also a first come first serve facility.

“I would have given this campground a higher rating if it wasn't for their messed up reservations system. When we arrived at the "check-in" time, most of the campground was already full, making it very challenging to find a campsite to fit our 25' trailer and even worse for our friends to find a spot for their 31' trailer. Some of the roads in the campground are narrow making it difficult to maneuver the trailers around in search of a campsite. Perhaps the front gate needs to inform those with trailers where sites are available that will accommodate the various sizes so we don't spend a 1/2 hour and a 1/4 tank of fuel looking for a spot. Other than that, the campground was very beautiful, had clean bathrooms and showers (the few there were), and is relatively quiet at night, except for the occasional camper yelling and clanging pans to scare off the local bears (yes, they do visit so be aware)!”

Ghost Mountain
Aug 8, 2008 by BARBARA from BAY POINT, CA

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3

  • Ghost town.
  • No water, except pool, ghost town not open, bad attitude employees.

“The road was ok until the last 1/4 mile, which had some pot holes and narrow road, but it was ok. We asked to drive around to take a look at the park, we were told we could, but if we stopped the car and got out, it would be $5. Ok, we didn't stop. Then we wanted to kids to see it for their opinion and ask if we could drive through with them and we were told, you already drove through, you don't need to go again. Ok, the reason they were so strict was because they let people drive through who got out and used the pool. So, does that mean they run the resort by one incident and no one can check it out. I was very disappointed in the resort. It would be a nice place if ran correctly. We ended up at Ponderosa RV resort and ran into 2 other families that had just that same week had bad experiences with the resort and the people. Too bad, it could really be a nice place with the ghost town, which wasn't open each time we went.”

Tahoe Valley Campground
Aug 2, 2008 by Lacy from Diamond Bar, CA

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • We really liked the activities to help keep the kids entertained.
  • The store is practically empty.

“The Campground is perfect for people who like it to feel a little rustic and campy and provide things to do for the family. It's close to everything you might like to do. Shopping, movies, lake, casinos, etc. There are plenty of trees so it still feels like your away from home when you return to your camp. Don't expect shiny five star amenities. The camp provides request, balls, ping pong paddles and basketballs for you to use. We liked the outdoor beaten ping pong table set amidst the trees. Again, I don't want to feel like I'm staying at a pristine hotel. The two families in our group had a great time. The camp has plenty of kids and dogs, so expect family oriented. The store is not stocked well at all, but a grocery store is very near. I was really afraid it might be a dump, but upon arriving, I enjoyed the camp. Sites are very close, but everyone had room to extend their trailer slide outs without getting crushed. We needed to stay an extra night and the camp was very willing to accommodate our needs. As soon as you check out, the clean-up crew comes and cleans the sight up for the next camper.”

Governor's Mansion
Jul 18, 2008 by Laura from Palm Desert

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Beautiful mansion - interesting history.
  • The horrible tour guide that ruined the experience.

“The mansion itself is beautiful and worth visiting. The reason for my low rating is the horrible tour guide that ruined it for my daughter and myself. Rather than giving us a tour of the mansion, he insisted on telling us every single irrelevant fact about the 8 governors that lived in the mansion. He made us stand in the foyer while he lectured us, fact by boring fact, on every single one. All we wanted to do was see the mansion, learn a little of its history, and enjoy the visit. We were so upset with his tour that I made the excuse that we had another appointment and needed to leave. He never did get around to talking about the home itself - any information we got on the furnishings or architectural features was because I specifically asked about them. He was too busy trying to give us the information that he felt was interesting. It was just horrible - words really can't describe it adequately.”

Fallen Leaf Campground
May 31, 2008 by Darlene from Folsom

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Great campground for riding bikes, convenience and setting!
  • Only open Memorial Day weekend through the end of Sept.

“This is a great campground for families. There are no RV hookups, so you need to be self-contained. But the campground showers are hot and the bathrooms are clean. Campsites range from 20' to 99'. This campground is conveniently located just off of Emerald Bay Hwy and is near Fallen Leaf Lake which is beautiful! Emerald Bay and the overlook to it are just up the road about 4 miles. The lake Tahoe Basin, visitors center is across the street. The stream experience there, at the visitors center, is really neat as it lets you walk under Taylor Creek and see the fish swim and how a stream works. Camp Richardson is nearby and the very popular ice cream parlor is always busy! You can rent bikes and boats at Camp Richardson as well. The staff at Fallen Leaf Lake were very friendly and helpful, always keeping the camp clean and making sure people stick to the 10:00 curfew. I'd recommend this campground to anyone.”

Long Beach Aquarium Of Pacific
May 28, 2008 by mom of 2 from california

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5

  • All exhibits were awesome!
  • Not breastfeeding friendly!

“I give the Aquarium a #5 score because I am a nursing mother and there was only one bathroom that had a loveseat to nurse my baby. But, also in the room there was a toy for small children to play with that was very noisy! There is no door on the nursing room, so random little girls where coming in playing and running around which made it very difficult to nurse. Also not having a door also meant there was no privacy! So for all you nursing mom's the Aquarium, in my opinion is not breastfeeding friendly!”

Gable House Bowl
May 13, 2008 by g from Torrance, CA

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Cheap drinks.
  • Racist, violent staff.

“When we arrived, I wondered why eggs had been thrown at the front of the building. Half an hour later I had my answer. We had stopped by to send a friend off who is moving away; Gable House is central so we thought it a good choice. Bad decision. When we arrived, loud security guards were standing in the walk way in front of the business. My kids an I had to climb up over the barricade/step to even get in as they were too busy talking loud among themselves to even move out of our way so we could get in. First sign. Next, the music was so loud talking wasn't an option. In the bar, two friends and I waited fifteen minutes while the two bartenders finished talking to their friends before they rudely helped us. They made it obvious we had inconvenienced them. As soon as we walked back into the bowling alley, large, rude overzealous security guards began to yell at us to leave. Apparently there is a cover charge that no one at the door mentioned to us. Fair enough, but they wouldn't even let us finish our drink. They began to threaten our group of thirty with bodily harm if we didn't comply. Yeah, you want some of this? kind of stuff. Remember, our office had simply wanted to stop by and have a drink with our friend who is moving away. As they herded us into the parking lot, the real fun began. We were trying to come up with a plan and so were talking in front of the Bowling Alley when team charming came out after us and the other twenty or so people they had rudely kicked out of their establishment. They repeatedly threatened us and everyone else they had thrown out with bodily harm if we didn't leave immediately. Now call me dumb, but wouldn't it be smarter to allow fifty people to stay in your bar and buy food and drinks and bowling games rather than forcibly throw out half the people in your establishment in such a way as to guarantee that the only reason they would ever come back is to throw eggs? And this brings me to the final straw. One of the fifty or so people they threw out appeared to be middle eastern. The security guards repeatedly called him a monkey, and a terrorist. They said get off my property and get out of my country. At this point, not only was I embarrassed for the security guard, but for the manager of the Gable House who refused to meet with anyone who asked to speak with him about the behavior of his employees and who obviously condones this behavior. Not only will I never come back, I will make it a point to tell everyone I know, and everyone I don't know about this embarrassment in Torrance. In case anyone from the city of Torrance wants it, my friend got most of this on her video phone.”

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • The things I like are the campfires, trails, swimming, weather.
  • Generators.

“We love Sly Park and have been camping there for over 18 years. The staff is outstanding and the lake is beautiful. I understand that the water level gets pretty low in periods of drought but we have seemed to avoid the worst so far. A few years ago my daughter got "lost" in the wilderness up there for about 5 hours and the authorities were quick to react. She did however end up saving her own self. But we have a great time swimming and hiking. Lots of places for privacy too, especially in the beginning of the week. My kids are very nature oriented so they love it, they are young adults now and they still look forward to our yearly camp there.”

“The person at the front desk was very rude because of when I went up there 3 times. She got really irritated. Then I asked if she could print out my game, and she said "yeah, if you think youre done now." Afterward, I won a major prize on the stacker game, and the prize did not come out all the way. When I told her about it, all she said was, "yeah, theres nothing we can do about it, its not our machine" and she kept reading her book. Barton Memorial Hospital
Mar 7, 2008 by dennis from bishop

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Leaving the hospital.
  • Noncaring attitude by ER personnel .

“Our son lives in Tahoe and has health issues and the ER in the hospital is terrible. So we've been hearing from him for years about how bad it is. Then I had the 'misfortune' of finding out firsthand. My wife had a few gallbladder attacks the previous month and was scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks. When we went to Tahoe to visit our family, I had to take my wife in to the ER because of a Gallbladder attack. They had her sit in the waiting room for almost a hour before getting her back in to see someone, she was screaming in pain, and she has a high threshold for pain. She had to wait to sign in while another person, that did come in before her with a broken finger while he was outside smoking a cigarette. After finally getting her into the ER to be examined, they didn't give her pain meds for another hour. The doctors there in Tahoe could not decide exactly what was wrong and I kept telling them it was her gallbladder. I called our doctor at home and he said to get her back to Bishop immediately, so I took her out against doctors advice. It's a good thing I did, because when we got home and to our hospital they said it was pretty serious. her gallbladder was so inflamed they had to giver her antibiotics before taking it out the next day. If we would have stayed at Barton, who knows what would have happened. Do not go there unless there is no other choice.”

Keogh's Hot Spring
Feb 29, 2008 by Cruz from L.A.

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Great water feels wonderful to swim and lounge in, all people very nice.
  • Disgusting smell and soaked carpet in changing room, toilets nasty.

“It's a regular swimming pool with a separate, shallower "hot pool", all in a structure built so the big pool is open to the sky (roof over entrance, changing areas, little store and hot pool). Not fancy, and the dressing rooms smell awful because of the damp icky carpets and the tiny bathroom is pretty icky too. But the water is fantastic, piped right in from the spring, great temperature, very fun "waterfall" at the shallow end where water cascades in an arc from above and gives a pretty good massage if you stand under the warm part. Great place for families, athletes, anybody, any time of day and all year round. Closes at 7pm which always feels too soon. An excellent place to stop just outside town.”

Pelican Point R V Park

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5

  • Pretty views while walking.
  • Rude management.

“The park is in a nice location. The beach is close (short walk) the paths to walk around are great. But I have never been to such a rude place before in all my life. There is some guy who rides around on a golf cart and I am fairly certain he has never cracked a smile or said anything in a pleasant voice in his entire life. He is rude and I will even venture to say, down right mean. Even on the phone he rude, short and very uncomfortable to talk to. The park has a lot of rules they are all posted right on the front when you drive in. I had to take a picture of them as I was amazed that such a small place could have so many signs! Not a very welcoming site to say the least. That being said. I do have to say that the woman who works in the Office/store is very nice and friendly. She should give the old grump some lessons. We stay there on occasion, but would rather go to the place down the road that may not be quite as pretty, but much nicer and welcoming atmosphere.”

  • not "fancy", small, two screens, not a fan of movie choices sometimes

“It's just a small town theater - I think it does pretty well for a small town. It's not fancy, and only has two screens. The fact that it can only play two movies at a time is a bummer, but I have grown up in this town with this theater and it has done just fine. Something nice about it for a person living and growing up in Bishop is the fact that you always see people you know and I often sit with people I randomly meet up with there. The service people are friendly, too. Sometimes I dislike their choices of movies to hold over (or not) and their choices of movies to show each week (or not). Overall, it's ncie”

Hotel del Coronado

  • Strolling carolers were neat to watch (at Christmas time).
  • Way too expensive!

“Overpriced. Plus, they nickel and dime (I mean $10 and $20) you to death once your there, paying $20+/day for parking and ridiculous prices for food, drinks, hot chocolate at the skating rink, etc. We went last year during Christmas time. The ice skating was nice, but, as usual at the del, very expensive. The kids wanted to skate again, so we went over to nearby Horton Plaza, had a great time and paid much less. The Christmas carolers strolling around the hotel were nice to listen to for a few minutes, but other than that, it seemed like the del didn't do much to make the higher Christmas time rates worth it for you.”

  • Nice people and nice alleys, available and working. .
  • Rest rooms could be better.

“Nice people and nice alleys. Prices are very reasonable and availability seems good. Their "gutter caps" or bumpers are automated so they automatically deploy for (j) junior bowlers and retract for adults. We have had very few problems with their automatic pinsetters and ball returns. Lots of parking. Could use better rest rooms. We haven't tried the snack bar often seems closed.”

Pelican Point R V Park

  • Lovely setting near coastal beach.
  • Manager is unbelievably rude.

“I don't recommend this park. We were unexpectedly evicted from the park for groundless reasons last marchland were told we could never return there again. We are quiet, law abiding, respecting senior citizens from WI. The eviction was due to our daughter in law's visit to us in the park on 2 occasions. She too is law abiding and respectful but we wonder if the issue is that she happens to be black. BTW she is a recognized children's book author.”

  • Bowling.
  • Very poor customer service.

“Bowling is bowling, so for that part its okay. But the drinking and smoking causes a very serious problem, especially with under age kids participating. Tab should check this place out.”

Canyon Creek Resort

  • Walking to lake Berryessa, Church meeting on site.
  • Poison oak on hills :(, sundown is early in winter.

“This park is beautiful. The hills just to the West of Putah creek look like "wall paper". Although this wall paper has deer, and unfortunately lots of poison oak! The canyon is pretty steep, so the sun is out of view by about 5pm in Jan. Also when I was there we had no cell phone reception, until we went to winters. A really nice little town. We had great fellowship with a Christian church that met in the "activities room", what a blessing! Down town Sacramento is less than an hour away, if you avoid "rush hour".”
