Legazpi

  • Parque Galvan.
  • Lackluster nightlife.

“I stayed here with a family during a school 'summer study abroad' program. All in all, this is a great place and a decent location in Madrid. There are easily - accessed metros throughout the area, the main one being the Legazpi access on the Yellow Line, which is only a few stops from Plaza del Sol and other desirable destinations within Madrid. Perhaps the best feature of the area is the fact that it is in close proximity to an amazing park, Parque Enrique Tierno Galvan. This park features a stunning Amphi theater, a plethora of great walking paths, a bridge that features great views of the area (and climbing to boot!), a man made river, elegant fountains, superb playgrounds, and is clean to boot! I feel that this park is a great alternative to the hustle and bustle of Retiro for all those trying to avoid a crowd. Although the allure of Retiro is hardly something to scoff at. As far as city features go, Legazpi doesn't disappoint here either. A bakery, supermarket, ice cream parlor, banks (including ATMs), internet cafes, and a few bars (one of which is even an official Irish pub - called The Red Corner if memory serves correctly) are all within short walking distance of each other. All of the people I encountered in the area were extremely friendly to boot. Disadvantages are few, but noteworthy. Although I stayed with a family when I was there, I did not notice many (if any) hotel accommodations nearby; check the area just to be sure. Also, if the rich Madrid nightlife is something you are looking for, Legazpi is probably not the place for you. There are only about 2 or 3 bars here, all of which seemed to attract an older crowd and closed early. Also, it is somewhat distanced from the center of Madrid, which is undoubtedly where most of the fun is to be had. A few easy Metro stops fixes this problem, but if you are needing to get back to Legazpi after the Metro shuts down for the evening, it will be a long walk or a pricey taxi ride. Overall, though, if you are looking for a stay in the quieter side of Madrid that still maintains the life of the city overall, this area is the place for you.”

  • Collections, reproduction of the Altamira's caves.
  • There aren't activities for kids or I didn't find them.

“Wonderful museum. In fact, all the national museums in Spain are great, remarkable interesting, but Archaeological museum in Madrid is amazing.”

Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza

“A truly exceptional collection that covers every great art movement and includes every great artist. My only regret was that I did not get there sooner in the day, so I rushed through the 19th and 20th centuries, of which there was a great deal to see. I was particularly impressed by the Van Eyck, whose works are very rare, and by the inclusion of great American artists like Homer, Whistler, Pollock, and Rothko. While these artist are found often in American collections, they are rare to see in Europe.”
