Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel

Shortly before 1800, Father Demetrius Gallitzin, born a Prince of Russian royalty, established a log church on this wilderness frontier, and served the people of this area until his death in 1840. The current Basilica stands near the site of Father Gallitzin's original log chapel, and was built in 1901 with funds donated by Charles Schwab, then president of United States Steel Corp.
