Calgary International Airport is the main access point for Banff and the Canadian Rockies. The airport is approximately 15 kilometers (9 miles) from Calgary and approximately 144 kilometers (90 miles) from Banff in Canada's Alberta Province. Over 25 airlines and several charter services operate at the airport offering nonstop flights to 29 destinations in Canada, 12 destinations in the U.S. and two overseas flights to London and Frankfurt. The spectacular beauty of the Canadian Rockies draws many tourists, so there are also several seasonal flights. In the past, travelers have complained about a dearth of shopping and eating options on the airside, but a recent renovation of Concourse B/C has remedied that. Like many Canadian airports, travelers are charged an Airport Improvement Fee to support ongoing projects. As of August, 2004, the fee is $10 for short haul flights within Alberta and $15 for all other destinations. Connecting passengers are exempt.
