Halifax International Airport has more flights to more destinations than any other airport in Atlantic Canada. The airport is served by 19 commercial airlines including Delta, Northwest, Air Canada and WestJet offering nonstop service to destinations throughout Canada and the U.S. The airport is in the midst of a 10-year Airport Improvement Program that includes expanding domestic and international arrivals areas and adding more ticket counters and aircraft gates. As part of the program, the airport has opened Flight Deck, a public observation area on the third floor of the airport, and Airport Square, a major expansion of retail outlets in the main lobby. The airport's location isn't as user-friendly as its new facilities. It is located approximately 35 kilometers (22 miles) from downtown Halifax, and takes about 30 to 45 minutes to drive by car.
