Tucson International Airport7250 S Tucson Blvd, Tucson, AZWeb: Visit this site » Tucson International Airport is situated twelve miles south of Tucson, Ariz., 110 miles south of metropolitan Phoenix and 60 miles north of the Mexico border in a high desert valley ringed with mountains. The second largest airport in Arizona after Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport, the airport is trying to position itself as an inexpensive and convenient alternative to Sky Harbor for residents of and visitors to southern Arizona. Twelve airlines currently serve the airport, providing nonstop service to 16 cities like Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Newark and Hermosillo, Mexico. Beginning service in 1927, American Airlines was the first commercial airline at the airport and remains one of Tucson's top three airlines. Two large low fare airlines, America West and Southwest, help keep fares competitive with those found at Sky Harbor. The airlines operate out of terminal facility consisting of a lower baggage claim level and an upper ticketing level that connects to East and West Concourses. The terminal was remodeled in 1985 and is scheduled for another expansion in the near future.
