Greater Rochester International Airport1200 Brooks Ave, Rochester, NYWeb: Visit this site » Greater Rochester International Airport is located four miles southwest of Rochester, N.Y., and 12 miles south of Lake Ontario, one of the largest of the Great Lakes. The airport is served by 10 airlines and regional jet services offering nonstop flights to destinations in the U.S. and Canada. The airport's main terminal building has two levels - ticketing and boarding gates on the upper level and baggage claim and rental cars on the lower level. To improve the flow of passengers in the terminal, the airport is currently constructing a centralized security checkpoint to replace the checkpoints at each concourse entrance. You can expect to be diverted around the construction site until the project is completed in November 2004. A more interesting diversion is the airport's art collection which showcases regional artists. One eye-catching piece is the Brass Tree by local artist, J. Pat Bucey. It is a nine-foot tall tree made of brass and adorned with over five thousand shimmering brass leaves.
