St Petersburg - Clearwater International Airport

St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport is centrally located between the metropolitan areas of Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Sarasota and Tampa. The area is a long-time favorite tourist destination as home of two of the top ten beaches in the continental U.S. Many of these tourists are Canadians flying south for the winter and the airport is serviced by several Canadian jet airlines including CanJet and Jets Go. However, the airport's three largest airlines are ATA Airlines, Southeast Airlines and USA 3000 Airlines offering nonstop service to over 25 destinations. The airport is four miles north of St. Petersburg, the birthplace of commercial air travel. In January 1914, a little more than a decade after the Wright brothers' pioneer flight, the first air travel ticket was sold by the St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line. This historic event is commemorated by a plaque in the airport's terminal building.
