Metropolitan Oakland International

Travelers looking for a low-cost and low-key alternative to SFO often turn to Oakland International Airport on the east side of the San Francisco Bay Area. Oakland has over 200 flights a day on 11 domestic and international airlines to 39 nonstop destinations including Atlanta, Boston, the Hawaiian Islands, New York, Washington, D.C., and Mexico. There is also seasonal service to the Azores in Portugal, Costa Rica and Sun Valley, ID. The airport is growing in popularity and served 13.5 million passengers in 2003. The airport's two existing terminal facilities are designed to accommodate only eight million passengers, so a large scale Terminal Improvement Project is underway that will renovate and expand Terminal 2 and construct a new multi-level parking garage. The airport also recently added a Park & Call Zone where people meeting passengers can park (you must stay with your car) for 30 minutes in a designated lot that's an easy walk for passengers from the terminal.
