Juneau International1721 Crest St, Juneau, AKWeb: Visit this site » Flying into Juneau International Airport is a thrilling experience as the airport is nestled in a narrow valley between tall glacial mountain peaks. Juneau, Alaska's capital, is located approximately 890 miles northwest of Seattle, Wash., and 560 miles southeast of Anchorage in the lush waterways of the "Alaskan Panhandle." Juneau is the only state capital in the U.S. with no roads leading to it - it's only accessible by boat or plane. Despite the dependence on air travel, the airport is small and is served by Alaska Airlines and a handful of charter and commuter services. Alaska Airlines offers daily, nonstop flights to Seattle and Anchorage. The airport is adjacent to the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge, an important wildlife sanctuary, so the airport faces the challenge of balancing environmental considerations with the airport expansions required to better comply with FAA standards.
