Other cities served by the airport include Hermantown, Minn., and Superior, Wis. The airport is the gateway to the region's pristine wilderness areas including Minnesota's Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness. The airport is served by Northwest and Mesaba airlines offering daily, nonstop flights to Detroit and Minneapolis/St. Paul on regional jets. American Eagle discontinued service at the airport in September 2004. The airport's distinctive peaked terminal was built in 1974. As a small airport, it is easy to navigate with baggage claim and ticketing on the first level and gates and eating options on the second level.
